"Conservative" Catholics "Turning" on Cardinal Dolan?
A fun article in the Washington Post.
It always amazes me that there are people 'out there' who want to believe "conservative" is the proper term for loving God so intimately you always strive never be unfaithful to Him. I often wonder if they think cheating on their spouse is just 'liberal'.
In any event, it would seem Bill Donohue's credibility has finally imploded. The poor man's ministry has been suffering from the effects of needing the seat at the Bishop's swanky events for quite some time. He had to keep lowering the bar to defend the indefensible. Watching him grovel his credibility away was painful.
These apostolates survive on money from wealthy Catholics who want a seat at the Bishop's swanky events. They have invested a lot of treasure into the pockets of the Bishop to obtain a seat at the table. The Bishops then use them to influence the coverups of corruption and misfeasance. They feed off of each other.
A person who speaks openly and honestly about the skullduggery of a Cardinal like Cardinal Dolan is on a Chancery blacklist. The Chancery keeps watch on who gives money and support to such persons and makes clear their name will go on a blacklist too, if they support the apostolate.
But Bill Donohue was putty in their hands.
When that happens, the apostolate loses the support of the people running the operation on the ground - the army - and becomes an elite group of muckety mucks who are out of touch with reality.
These people are the same people who are financing the political game. When they become out of touch with the ground game of the army, they start making stupid decisions about candidates that voters are not going to support under any circumstances. But they are so accustomed to winning with their money, they are incapable of understanding their money and power means nothing juxtaposed against the foot soldiers zeal for pleasing God above everyone else, in all circumstances. They lose sight of the fact that the foot soldiers are in control. Nobody was going to vote for their white, rich Obama who would protect their money but had no intention of protecting life or religious protections in the Constitution.
I suspect Bill's defense of Cardinal Dolan's dishonorable mockery of an Irish Catholic saint was so farcical that even the rich could not support it and made critical phone calls to him. He has reversed his self.
Too late kiddo.
You were paid off to be silent until the corruption of Bishops completely destroyed everything. Don't bother stopping now that it has reached the level of the asinine. Get on his mattress and ride your fanny to his swanky events, tip the glass and smoke your cigar with him. Our people are being massacred and it is only a matter of time before they are on our doorstep.
I had a good laugh at Rod Dreher's thoughts that Cardinal Dolan might come to a realization that he's lost the support of faithful Catholics who are trying to preserve Church teaching in the face of his farcical contradictions.
I presume Dreher is consoling himself with those thoughts but Cardinal Dolan does not give a rat's patoot about actions he knows causes the loss of trust and leadership among faithful Catholics.
What he cares about is gaining the trust and political favor with Herod and Herodias. This is a huge victory for him and he no doubt is very pleased his craven capitulations have won him the leading role in the parade. Really, when you think about it, what better spot for him. There he will be in all his glory, half in the bag, and following behind him will be the Irish drunks and people wearing t-shirts announcing whose sexual orifices they are pleasuring. He owns the results of their spiritual formation and should proudly lead them through the streets of New York in victory.
We were lucky in Boston to have Irish Catholic men who withdrew after political pressure to add people wearing signs about who they are rolling in bed in defiance of Catholic Church teaching. It's tough to fight the political pressure of people who make booze in New York City. I'd love to see it become just Cardinal Dolan and people wearing signs about who they're sleeping with.
Maybe somebody in the t-shirt business could come up with some more themes.
"Kiss me, I'm Irish and proud to be cheating on my spouse." "COS" That would be a huge section.
"Irish prostitute"
"Irish and had an abortion"
"Proud Irish masturbator"
We could gas up a convertible and send Cardinal Dolan in a shirt that says "behind me are the results of what I teach or lack thereof" or, "Herod and Herodios following behind - GOOD FOR THEM!"
I totally concur and am deeply saddened. The Gospel today spoke about reaching out to those who have strayed from God. My pastor really only stays on the side of an issue, he never drives it home. Today? He did say that if we have know someone that is on the wrong track, it is our responsibility to call the the person out. What came to my mind was Obama, and so many of the Catholic priests and hierarchy. How can Catholics learn out faith when so many are actually bringing scandel to the Holy Mother Church.

ReplyDeleteWhat are a referring to?
"Sexual" orifices? I don't think so.
ReplyDeleteGoing to the Washington Post for advice on the Catholic Faith is like going to the trash to find dinner.

ReplyDeleteI sure would like to know what is to become of the Catholic League boycott of Guinness Beer.
ReplyDeleteTheir is no way they can continue it now that Dolan has taken up sides with the gay lobby.
Re Bill, he started off ok but then capitulated.

He then dd another 180 when he realized the situation meant marching with notification you are there to mock Church teaching at a Catholic event opened up an ugly can of worms.
I think you mean "apostates".
ReplyDeleteBear, oops. I concede.
ReplyDeleteAnon, excellent. LOL
ReplyDeleteKathleen, nicely said!
Ezekiel 34:2-10 (RSVCE)
ReplyDelete“Son of man, prophesy against the shepherds of Israel,[a] prophesy, and say to them, even to the shepherds, Thus says the Lord God: Ho, shepherds of Israel who have been feeding yourselves! Should not shepherds feed the sheep? You eat the fat, you clothe yourselves with the wool, you slaughter the fatlings; but you do not feed the sheep. The weak you have not strengthened, the sick you have not healed, the crippled you have not bound up, the strayed you have not brought back, the lost you have not sought, and with force and harshness you have ruled them. So they were scattered, because there was no shepherd; and they became food for all the wild beasts. My sheep were scattered, they wandered over all the mountains and on every high hill; my sheep were scattered over all the face of the earth, with none to search or seek for them.
“Therefore, you shepherds, hear the word of the Lord: As I live, says the Lord God, because my sheep have become a prey, and my sheep have become food for all the wild beasts, since there was no shepherd; and because my shepherds have not searched for my sheep, but the shepherds have fed themselves, and have not fed my sheep; therefore, you shepherds, hear the word of the Lord: Thus says the Lord God, Behold, I am against the shepherds; and I will require my sheep at their hand, and put a stop to their feeding the sheep; no longer shall the shepherds feed themselves. I will rescue my sheep from their mouths, that they may not be food for them.
I was sad and confounded to have learned about the NYC St Patrick's day parade will now be allowing active homosexual to be part of march in honor of a Holy Catholic Saint who drove the demons out of Ireland, the evil practices of the pagans and Idolaters there were in Ireland before Patrick preached the Gospel. However, one must keep vigilant when fighting the spiritual warfare; without a deep prayer life, acts of penances,Alms giving, prayerfully studying the Holy Scriptures and Fathers of the Church, one will begin to loose one spiritual perception, and question the commandments of God, their spiritual leadership and prayer will become ineffectual. Better to Reread Ephesians 6 and Romans Chapter 12, repent and get on target. And we don't need to use Political Nomenclature, ie, Conservative or Liberal, how about sticking to orthodox and heresy?
ReplyDeleteToday's gospel set the standard. Got a problem, go to the person and tell them what is wrong with their action with love and humility. If that doesn't work bring a brother with you and finally bring it to the Church...and well, you know the rest.
Now problem with going to a brother that is unreachable, it you just have to write a letter, especially if they surround themselves with people that just tell them what they wish to hear. Eventually, if there is no response, and no one will go with you,,,go to their superior and up the latter. If enough folks were to do this in the presence of spiritual error, something would have to happen. Above all pray for those in authority especially our shepherds.
Bravo TTC!
ReplyDeleteHow long will Boston's parade organizers hold out?
ReplyDeleteAccording to the Internet, the "Catholic League" is a rather large organization. I don't know how long it's been, though, since any voice but that of Bill Donohue has been heard. There's something creepy and cult-of-personality-like about this, even though Donohue does not have a particularly striking or charming personality.
ReplyDeleteThis is foolishness about fraternal correction. You try to tell your children about receiving Holy Communion in a state of grace and watch the reaction. Try telling a woman who has not been to confession for 40 years and receives the Eucharist every Sunday and watch the fraternal reaction from her son. Try asking a priest whose community is celebrating 75 years of their community and has asked 700 local people to come to the Sunday mass to celebrate with them if it is business as usual and give the Host to anyone who comes to the altar and watch his temper rise up. How many have ever corrected anyone in the defense of the Eucharist and been welcomed for their defense. It is great talking folks but not to defend Him very rare in the Church today.
ReplyDeleteI suspectBoston's will hold out for years to come, perhaps indefinitely, but I think the real question is more likely to be whether the gay folks will bother to care as that parade (and St Patrick's Day in its former incarnation as a civic shibboleth of ethnic solidarity in Boston) continues to fade in cultural importance in the city of Boston. Kinda like what happened to other ethnic parades in other cities. (I can remember, for example, when the von Steuben Day parade and Kosciuzsko Day parade in Manhattan meant something more for the German and Polish communities than they do now; Columbus Day parade is following suit for Italians, and St Patrick's will probably lag but still fade - in Boston, it's just happening faster because we're that much smaller. Btw, as best I can tell, that's also happened to the gay Pride parade as well - in general, that mode of subcommunity self-expression is losing saliency in the e-social network era). St Patrick's Day has simply become the Irish Mardi Gras - a day of civic debauchment. But it's been that way for a while.
ReplyDeleteBill Donohue is literally a lapdog of the Archdiocese of New York. I believe his $200,000+ salary is directly funded by the Archdiocese of NY.
ReplyDeleteJoe Pasquella- "Up the ladder?" But looks who's at the top!
ReplyDeleteWho's turning? I've never liked him to begin with
ReplyDeleteJoe, LOL. I'm with you on that one!
