Fr. Barron states Adam and Eve were not literal living humans, the story is theological poetry

Wholly crap...this is kinda scary.

If there was no Adam and Eve, there was no original sin.

No Adam and Eve, no Cain and Abel or anyone else after them in recorded historical documents.

Fr. Barron says we have all been misreading this very naive mythological cosmology in Genesis which does not square with the subtle work of Newton Einstein and Hawking. It turns out we were not sensitive to genre. Genesis is like Moby Dick. It's a mistake to view it as history.

Stay tuned for his next video: Moses, Schmozes and the ten suggestions.

Is it me, or is his trajectory new?

Carol, would you start a survey or contest, Name that Schism?

Sooo glad you posted this, Carol.
The abbot at my former monastery taught this.(Among many other modernist gems.)

Cried driving home in the car more times than I care to remember.
Thankfully was able to transfer to a faithful monastery. +

Anonymous, Three Days in Woodstock? LOL. Seriously, there will never be a formal schism IMO. We posses the Truth and the Sacraments. Find a refuge and hunker down. There are plenty out there.

Caroline, what will they think of next?!!

Carol, Fr. Barron has taught this heresy for years, so it's nothing new. He's also anti-death penalty as well, the mark of a true bleeding heart liberal. BTW, Mark You-Know-Who is one of his buds, so you know he's off the beam big time!

Let's hope Father Andrew Greeley's favorite lunch buddy doesn't end up affirming the reality of "Adam and Steve"....

Gee should I listen to Father Barron or the magisterium of Pius XII? tough call.

Between this and "Hell might be empty", I don't know why anyone listens to him.

BTW Carol, be careful about posting anything from Dave Armstrong. Armstrong himself denies the literal meaning of Genesis One by claiming that the six days of creation were not twenty four hour days. He sneeringly calls any Catholic who believes in the literal, traditional teaching of G1 a "fundamentalist.

Steve Dalton said...

Also, Armstrong is a theistic evolutionist as well.

I am not sure what the big surprise is here. We are Catholics, not Bible-thumping fundamentalists. God did not give us the Sacred Scripture as a science or history text.

Anonymous, until modern(ist) times, we Catholics always believed that Genesis 1-11 was real, literal, history. We also believed that the Holy Scriptures were 100% accurate when it spoke on scientific matters. No the Holy Writ isn't a science text book, say like on atomic physics, it statements on the physical realm are 10005. It is a 100% reliable history of the people of God under the Old and New covenant. People like Fr. Barron are doing the same evil work that the liberals and higher critics did in the Protestant churches. He will destroy the faith of many Catholics, who will then risk going to hell unless they recover what Barron and his fellow liberals are taking away from them.
