The Executive Director of Haggee's PAC, Christians United for Isreal, Mr. David Brog, has written a book and is on a book tour promoting the anti-Catholic contents and apparently they've hoodwinked Bill into giving it a thumbs up.
David Brog is the Executive Director of Christians United for Israel, and in his book “Standing for Israel", Mr. Brog claims that "The Vatican's anti-Jewish regime was no sudden paroxysm of hate - it was the culmination of centuries of anti-Jewish edicts and pronouncements. Such church policies toward the Jews flowed directly from church theology regarding the Jews"
Mr. David Brog, is the Executive Director of Christians United for Israel, a Political Action Committee, founded by Pastor John Hagee. The PAC is commonly known as CUFI. The PAC has a very admiral goal of defending Israel against its enemies, but the group is not without controversy. CUFI founder Pastor John Hagee, to say the least, has had a colorful and controversial history with the Catholic Church and the Catholic League. Pastor Hagee and the Catholic League made national news recently during the McCain/ Obamma Presidential campaign as they sought out their differences. Press releases from the Catholic League assert that all has been forgiven between the League, Pastor Hagee and Mr. Brog and that the spat is over.
MinistryValues.com is not so sure and so we asked the Catholic League to look into some of our concerns.
We told the League that we found Mr. Brog's book quite troubling and we asked them to look into the the controversial statements made by David Brog. We also wanted to know if these controversial views held by Mr. Brog were in conflict with Mr. Hagee's recent reconciliation with the Catholic Church.
From the onset, Ms Fani was quite insistent that Mr. Brog's views were “old”. Ms. Fani, upon conferring with Dr. William Donahue, informed me that:
“We have no problem with Mr. Brog since we have no information about him having anti-Catholic views now based on his meeting with Dr. Donohue. As far as we know, he does not hold
anti-Catholic views anymore. The view you are attributing to him from his
book was written before he met with Dr. Donohue last year. We have no
reason to believe he still holds those views that we identified as
anti-Catholic.
We tried our hardest to get Ms. Fani to understand that regardless of Mr. Brog's Kum-Bye-Ya moment with Dr. Donahue, Mr Brog, continues to sell his book with its controversial views pertaining to Catholic church history. This is a book he describes as “NEW”. So we asked her again, if, now that she is aware that Mr. Brog is selling his book with controversial views to the Catholic faith, does this present a problem to the League. Alas, she was quite beholden to the notion that since Mr. Brog's book was published before the Kiss and Make up meeting between the Catholic League, Pastor Hagee, and Mr. Brog that Mr. Brog's views in his book are not now relevant. Ministryvalues's hair was beginning to hurt when we pointed out, yet again, that Mr. Brog is selling and promoting his book as, well - new!
Ministryvalues.com encouraged Ms. Fani to go to Mr. Brog's web site to investigate the controversial statements herself. We told her it was a matter of a few simple clicks to get to the juicy parts.
The controversial quotes are easily found by simply following Mr. Brog's, instructions located on his web site http://davidbrog.com/. Mr. Brog's web site is really nothing more than an “Authors” web page and is designed to promote his book. The website is complete with author bios, blogs, and instructions on how to buy his book at Amazon.com. A few clicks and it's off you go. Upon arrival at Amazon.com, Mr. Brog, encouraged us to “search inside”, and much obliged at his hospitality, ministryvalues.com quickly found Mr. Brog's cheerful statements that unequivocally let the reader know what his views are of the Catholic Church. I don't know how Amazon determines “Search Inside” excerpts but Mr. Brog's is a doozy. If Mr. Brog or his publisher selected these pages to highlight the book's essence, then I think as Ricky Ricardo said to Lucy “You got some Splainin to do”
A bit exasperated MinistryValues said finally to Ms. Fani in a letter
“Simply because his book was published before your meeting means nothing if he continues to sell and promote his book. His own website calls it a "NEW" book Let me repeat this his website calls it a NEW book. But more importantly by a mile is that simply because the Catholic League had a meeting and a sandwich with Mr. Brog and Mr. Hagee and you have forgiven them , well that is all find and good, but members of CUFI who read Mr. Brog's book will learn the history of the Catholic Church from his book. Because of the Leagues very public position of forgiveness, you are in effect endorsing his book. The average person will take away that the League has forgiven Brog and Hagee and therefore there is nothing wrong with the contents of the NEW book Brog continues to sell”
So...if the cretin who created a picture of the Blessed Mother with cowdung on it had a come to Jesus meeting with Bill but still continued to tour with the painting, Bill wouldn't have a problem with it?
I don't get this shtick.
