Keep the Faith, Change the Liturgy

After forty years of liturgical innovations that have included clowns, dancing in leotards, guns and garbage (actually happened here in Massachusetts), invalid matter, invalid prayer, invalid Mass, upcoming revisions to the Roman Missal are causing the chickens to come home to roost: America Magazine and the National Catholic Reporter Launch "Please Don't Change the Liturgy"

"Almost all of them are angry; none gave the revised version unqualified support. One correspondent, in a passage excised from the published version, went as far as writing: 'I hate you, hierarchy.' Feelings are running deep indeed," the newspaper said in an editorial.

"The anger of the people in the pews and many priests (and some bishops) seems to be rooted not so much in what they feel are anachronistic and clumsy translations -- vexing though they appear to be to many -- but in what they see as an arbitrary imposition of liturgical values that are foreign to them by faceless bureaucrats in distant Rome," the editorial said.

http://www.whatifwejustsaidwait.org/, a petition initiative of Fr. Michael Ryan's of Seattle (obtained 17,000 signatures), is being countered with another petition: What if we said why don't you just get over it by our friend Patrick Madrid.

Some entertaining schadenfreude in the comments section of the National Catholic Reporter.

Oh what about all the Catholics in 1969 who were appalled at the changes in the liturgy that were forced on them.Did many priests then say.."oh Wait" Paybacks a real bitch for Catholic liberals aint it hahahahaha....

Let's see, 17,000 out of 1.6 billion...what's the percentage there? I don't have my calculator.

I AM SORRY THIS POSTING FOR ME = POLISHING THE BRAS ON A SINKING SHIP OR FOR THAT MATTER ON A SUNKEN SHIP.

WE HAVE FAR MORE SERIOS AND BASIC PROBLEMS ...

NAMELY ARE THOSE WEARING THE BIG HATS GENUINE BELIEVERS?
DO WE ACCEPT JESUS' MISSION TO PREACH HIM WITH ALL OR SOULS TO THE ENDS OF THE EARTH?
DOM YOU BELIEVE IN SOULS?
DO YOU BELIEVE IN JESUS?
DO YOU THINK THE CHURCH AND SPECIFICALLY THE CHURCH OF BOSTON IS ACTING LIKE JESUS?
COME ON ... STOP STEPPING OVER THE ELEPHANT IN THE LIVING ROOM, IF YOU DON'T SEE IT; BY HEAVENS, YOU MUST SMELL IT.
WAKE UP ... SPEAK OUT ... STOP AND THINK ARE YOU FOLLOWING THE RIGHT SHEPHERD, OR FOR THAT MATTER, DO YOU SEE A REAL SHEPHERD ANYWHERE?

Sorry, we don't agree on this one Gio!

Perhaps you don't realize how the Liturgy has been stolen from the faithful and turned into something unrecognizable. Some priests are even serving invalid Eucharist! There is nothing more important to somebody who is Eucharistic.

Righting the ship of the Liturgy is a critical path to most of us.

Thankfully, I see many, many good shepherds. Many more than I saw five years ago. We have a long way to go. Perhaps even a generation. But, we're going in the right direction.

PLEASE
YOU KNOW I AGREE ON THE ABSOLUTE CENTRALITY OF THE EUCHARIST ...
HOWEVER IT IS NOT A TIME CONSTRAINED EVENT ... THE CELEBRATION OF THE EUCHARIST CONTINUES AFTER THE 'ITE MISSA EXT' ,,,
IT ALSO SHOULD BE CELEBRATED BY BEIEVERS ON BOTH SIDES OF THE ALTAR.
WHILE I UNDERSTAND YOUR POINT, I FEAR YOU MISS MINE ...
FOR EXAMPLE THERE ARE SOME CLERGY WITH WHOM I WOULD HAVE DIFFICULTY JOINING FOR CONCELEBRATION BECAUSE MY CONFLICTING THOUGHTS WOULD SO TROUBLE ME I THINK IT WOULD BE SACRALIGIOUS ...
I AM WELL AWARE OF MY NEED FOR GOS'S GRACES ...
HOWEVER, UNLESS WE DO SOMETHING TO WAKE UP OUR PRESENT BISHOP O'MALLEY AND HIS HIRED TEAM MATES AND STOP THEIR HARASSMENT OF CLERGY THERE WILL BE NO PTRIESTS TO CELEBRATE THE EUCHARIST ...

Gio,

Thanks for your thoughts. I understand some of what you're saying - vis-a-vis many difficulties we face but I disagree with you the discussing the restoration of celebration of the Sacred Liturgy, kidnapped and then trashed with loony innovations is polishing bras on a sinking ship.

This has been a very upsetting 40 years and for the most part, when we sought the help of priests, we were pounced upon. That the people are now tone deaf to the plight of priests after their families have been destroyed by the dissent, is most unfortunate. But, I have complete confidence that the few voices that will be raised will be enough.

I somehow also have absolute confidence that the Sacraments will survive this period in history. There will be priests long after O'Malley comes face-to-face with God where he will not escape his adjudication for all of it. God help him.

THOUGH WE DISAGREE ???
I DO FEEL ANGRY AS WELL ... I TOO WAS 'SCREAMING' AT SOME OF MY BROTHERS FOR THEIR HAUGHTY TRATMENT AND INDIFFERENCE TOWARD THE FAITHFUL ... I GUESS I SHOULD NOT BE SURPRISED THEN ... THE FRATERNAL CLERGY REMEMBER MY TIRADES AND THEREFORE HIT THE OFF-SWITCH AND THE LAITY JUST CLASSIFY MY PLIGHT WITH ALL THE CLERGY ABUSE THEY SUFFERED ...
EVERYONE SIMPLY WANTS WHAT THEY WANT AND THAT'S WHAT'S MOST IMPORTANT ...
IN THAT MIND-SET EVERYONE LOOSES ...
I AM MOST PEACEFUL AND CONFORTABLE WHEN I SHARE EUCHARISTIC PRAYER WITH TRUE BELIEVERS ... I WILL TRY TO REMEMBER THAT'S MY TABOR MOMENT AND JUST GO BACK DOWN THE MOUNTAIN AND TAKE MY LICKS LIKE EVERYBODY ELSE BEING ABUSED BY CORPORATION SOLE I.E. CORPORATE CHURCH.

Father, I don't think it's revenge - it is simply demoralization and being overwhelmed at what each person has on their own plate.

Most people have a sense of justice. All we can do is keep on beating the drum. Eventually, what they are doing will catch up to them. You have a great deal of courage. I don't think you'll be going down any mountain just yet. Too much screaming to do from the top of it still.
