There is a clear line that runs from treating the Kennedy clan as Catholic royalty for six decades, through ignoring the legions of nominal American Catholic politicians who treat the abortion license with more reverence than they do a consecrated host, to today’s de facto (and, really, de jure) destruction of the decades-old consensus that taxpayer dollars would not directly subsidize abortion (other than the funding Planned Parenthood takes from the government, and the limited Medicaid abortion exceptions)...
At the most basic possible level, the Catholic Bishops - the men I hold as a matter of faith to be in the direct line of Apostolic Succession - have enabled scandal, and it has finally flowered in full. A bishop has plenary discretion in the manner in which he brings his wayward sheep back into the fold, but by any measure, to put this politely, the American bishops’ exercise of their discretion has been a total embarrassment. Scandal is the act of teaching, from a position of authority, by word or deed, that what is evil is actually good. For essentially my entire lifetime, the Democratic Party has made as one of its governing planks that women have an inherent right to murder their children. Catholic Democrats have not, with a tiny handful of exceptions, bothered to even murmur a protest; the most prominent among them have taken up that position as their own - some without even bothering to run for the Presidency first.

Oh, and speaking of the gross misconduct of Bishops, Bishop Robert Lynch is at it again.

Hi Carol...I'm sure you have many other things to read for your blog ...but I can't help myself ! Every time I see this kind of promotion on the bishop's blog I am so angry. At least I know you understand the battle we all face.
In this little daily thought he's promoting Father Hesburgh, former ND president.. Now, at one time in my Christian life I would've found that quite impressive...but once again a little bit of research shows why Catholics have for so long been led astray. I'm forwarding and article from " Ignatius Insight Scoop" which has this little quote from the "learned Notre Dame man.":
It has to evolve over time. I have no problem with females or married people as priests, but I realize that the majority of the leadership in the Church would. But what's important is that people get the sacraments. You have to remember, there were married priests, even married popes, in the first 1,000 years of the church.

So his solution to getting the sacraments to people is "ordaining" people who wouldn't be actual priests and thus unable to confect the Eucharist or give absolution.

Amen! Church and State joined at the hip, corrupt co-conspiritors in the charade of "separation" that allowed each to ignore the innocent American lives of their members and constituents in their most helpless of situations, in the sanctity of the womb!
I attempted to post on America Magazine's blog that Bishop Lynchhad a credibility problem; however, as usual, they deleted it.
So, for all those who are unaware of Bishop Lynch, here is a little insight from The Rite of Sodomy by Randy Engel Chaper 14--
Bishop Lynch accelerated the rate of "modernization" of the Diocese of St. Petersburg. Traditional Catholics report that he radically reduced the practice of exposition of the Blessed Sacrament in local parishes and he enthusiastically promoted sex instruction in Catholic schools. He permitted the continuance of Dignity-like Masses for homosexuals and welcomed New Ways Ministry into the diocese. In the horrific case of hospitalized Terri Schindler Schiavo, whose adulterous husband starved her to death, Lynch neither defended the young woman's right to food and water or her right to Holy Communion as a baptized Catholic, one of the young woman's few consolations in this world.
Bishop Robert Lynch Manages His Own Crisis
On March 22, 2002, the Diocese of St. Petersburg was hit by more bad news. Bishop Lynch had called an impromptu press conference to deny charges that he had sexually harassed a former head of communications for the diocese. Lynch decided to call the news conference after he heard that the Tampa Tribune was just about to break the story. The 60-year-old bishop said the allegations against him were "unsubstantiated," which is not to say they were not true.
Greg Kandra at Where A Romna Cathlic Deacon Ponders the World and those of his ilk think Bishop Lynch is a voice of wisdon. I would not listen to a word this man has to say.
Lynch settle for 150,000. The victim( Mr. Urbanski) was a young man with two children.
Urbanski said that when Lynch began to make sexual overtures towards him, he tried to avoid the bishop as much as possible. "I tried to avoid him as the years progressed, without him getting mad at me. I couldn't have him mad at me. It was a tough day at work if he was mad at me, yet I couldn't leave. He went as far as to tell me how to wear my hair. If I got my hair cut, he would say, 'Oh, Bill. You need to grow your hair back. It's not a flattering haircut for you.'" He said that when he and Bishop Lynch traveled together the bishop always insisted on sharing rooms, and sometimes appeared naked from the shower.
In April 2002, Urbanski gave a lengthy interview to Brad Smith of the Tampa Tribune in which he elaborated on his four and a half-year relationship with Bishop Lynch. He said that Lynch was a lavish spender who always traveled first class and that he (Urbanski) was frequently the recipient of the bishop's largesse — watches, designer clothing and other expensive items. Urbanski said at first he was grateful, until he realized that the gifts came at a price — more time, attention, and ultimately sexual favors for the bishop.
