There's something terribly wrong with the Cardinal's judgment.

You really have to wonder. People in Boston felt so happy to see Bishop Sean arrive, but then decision after decision has left us mystified. A loyal Catholic who know him in Fall River commented to me recently, "What on earth has happened to Cardinal Sean since he went to Boston? He was a total, devoted, true Catholic clergyman. I am grieved that this man I have so much admired seems to have surrendered to the enemy!" If only he would break free from that inner circle.
I heard the same thing about him from his time in Fall River so had very high hopes for him in Boston. It does feel like he has surrendered. But doesn't it take two to tango--the person willing to surrender and the enemy he allows himself to be surrounded with?
In order for me to believe that the Cardinal is a victim of years bum advise from his inner circle, I'd have to believe that if somebody I liked very much advised me to hire somebody to do abortions at will on the people coming and going into my business, I wouldn't be able to sort out what answer to give them. It was a stretch for me even at the beginning of the Cardinal's tenure here due to the gravity of evil he couldn't recognize. But, after years and years of it, I simply am not able to lay the blame at the people he's hired.
Frankly, his deliberate deception in the Caritas Christi abortion contract fiasco leaves no room to conclude this is man acting in good faith who needs to get away from a handful of wizards.
If advice still sounds good to you after a decade of what anyone in a state of grace could see are disasters, there's a bigger problem going on.
