Carol, the American establishment has always been this blind since the days of Woodrow Wilson. Wilson and his successors thought they had a mission to convert the world to democracy. Well, we all know how that worked out from 1917 to 1945, don't we? And it hasn't been that great since then either! We should mind our own business and let the rest of the world alone unless they dare invade us or pull another 9/11.

And let us remember "democracy' is always a destabilizing force in traditional societies. That's why it led to Hitler in the 30's and sharia law now.
