Monsignor Pope's Treatise on "Obedience"

There seems to be some confusion.

It is a priest's evocation is to be obedient to his bishop. It is not the evocation of a lay person to be obedient to a bishop, because we have children and families. It is our evocation and duty to get to Heaven and bring as many people with us as we can.

Many priests confuse these evocations.

The instruction to lay people that Christ warned us about false shepherds with the intention that we are to be obedient to them is spiritually disordered.

I'm here to remind all who read here that Christ warned us about false shepherds and advised us to test everything. His instructions were clear. We are to shake the dust from our feet as a witness to the uncatechized, to our children, our neighbors and to the priest and Bishop himself so that he may know God sees what he is doing. Never, ever, sit in false witness or in silence when a shepherd is leading the flock astray. He is on the road to Gehanna and is not to be followed under the guise these are the instructions from Christ on 'obedience' to His Church.

The call for obedience can be the last refuge for the wicked. Many Bishops used obedience to cover up their crimes against children. Test everything and always choose obedience to Christ's One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church when your Bishop is not.

Most of these Bishops are simply weak rather than disobedient. They choose obedience for themselves but hand out poison to the flock. The road to hell is paved with their skulls. Let us pray for priests advising the faithful to follow them there, towing their children, family, friends and community.

Let those who have ears hear, in the Name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.

When are you going to issue an apology for your asinine defense of disgraced priest Father John Corapi?

This blog is a cult with dozens of "contributors" who use false names in a vain attempt to prop up the McKinley Cult.

Yawn.

I lift our fallen brother, Fr. John Corapi up to the Cross with the prayer that the reflection of Christ's light that shines from His Precious and Holy Face will overcome Fr. Corapi's darkness.

Imperat tibi sacramentum Crucis + , omniumque christianæ fidei Mysteriorum virtus +. Imperat tibi excelsa Dei Genitrix Virgo Maria + , quà superbissimum caput tuum a primo instanti immaculatà conceptionis in sua humilitate contrivit.

Amen.

At least you now admit that he IS in darkness. Shocking.

I never made a judgment on whether he is innocent or guilty of his charges. I will leave that sin to you and your father. I see the man is clearly struggling.

Amen

Now, leave that woman alone and go back to the gates of hell where you belong. Your father is waiting.

Moving right along, Monsignor Pope has posted a question about evocation.

Perhaps I was not clear enough so I'm cross-posting my followup comment to him at TTC.

Dear Monsignor,

Yes, evocation.

evocation vs. vocation

You have a vocation to the Church of Christ as a priest. There is a subset of evocations that fall under your vocation. One of them is obedience to your bishop. Lay people do not have this evocation. Our obedience is doctrinal and is limited to the litmis test of whether the doctrine of the particular bishop (or priest) is in communion with the Catholic Church. If it is not in communion, then we are not to be obedient.

A lay person's vocation when married - is husband, wife, father mother. There is a subset of evocations that fall under that vocation. We have evocations to the Church, to our community, our colleagues that are the duties and devotions to our baptismal vows.

I think many priests confuse the vocation and evocations of a lay person with their own vocation and evocations.

If a priest or bishop is misleading the flock, our evocation is different than yours.

God Bless and protect you.

iam,

The prayer of St. Michael is granted to laity. As duly noted above, there is an exclusion to incorporate the authority of the Church that is only given to the ordained. Nonetheless, the prayer is a powerful weapon that is underutilized and should be widely distributed during these times.

You will duly note the other prayers listed are intentionally disjointed from any rite of exorcism.

Monsignor Pope, IMHO, is a corporate drone and a flaming liberal. He demands blind obediance to the Pope and the rest of the hierarchy on non-essential matters and he is, like Mark Shea, an opponenent of the death penalty, which is usually one of the hallmarks of the liberal mindset.

Stevie,

Man..working 12 hours a day can really impede watching television and getting around the internet!

Even our good priests seldom understand the difference between their own vocations and evocations and the vocations and evocations of lay people.

Their directives to laity to be obedient to the wolves and false shepherds positively astounds me.

Pray for this good priest....the orthodox ones are lambs to the slaughter by the wolves in mitres. And why, oh why, has Rome chosen to infect and infest another diocese with this judas???

Steve, get a grip. Monsignor Pope is a good man and a solid priest and his writing is always outstanding. I agree with the death penalty and I love him.

Carol, I should point out that Msgr. Pope's own bishop, Donald Wuerl, not only refuses to follow Canon 215 concerning elected officials and abortion, but publicly stated his refusal.

I don't think the "good monsignior" has any grounds lecturing to other people about "docility" and "obedience" when he either can't convince his own bishop to do the same, or has no interest in doing so.

BTW, every Christian worth his or her salt should read and memorize Ezekiel 34.

Word verification: huzoonar

Probably what some bishops would like to be called. ;)

Yeah..I don't get out much. Not sure I ever read anything of the Monsignor's before. This was a first. I was not impressed. Not just the piece, but his responses in the comments section.

Maybe he was having a bad day, but.. blech.

Passive/aggressive?

Susan, I've found out over the years that if a person is against the strict enforcement of the death penalty, he is basically a liberal. Liberalism has always been against the death penalty, foolishly believing that murderers can be rendered harmless or rehabilitated. Read p on liberalism, and you will see that liberals are basically anti-dp. And I think you will discover over the next few years that Monsignor Pope is liberal on a lot of other things too.
