PewSitter: Former UN Ambassador John Bolton: I Support Gay Marriage on a State and Federal Level ... more at http://www.nationalreview.com/node/356423/print
Bottum has always been a poseur. A pretentious ninny and an un-talented, self-proclaimed "poet". The full story of his demise as editor of First Things has never been fully aired. One week he was doing an expensive re-design of the magazine, the next week he was a non-person. Bottum became best buddies with Father Neuhaus in the waning days of his life. Bottum is a very shady dude. His shilling for homosexual coupling does not surprise me in the least.
The commentariat's frequent reference to the remuneration received by Mr. Bottum for this article is simply silly. Think what you will of his reasoning and ultimate conclusion, he wrote with full awareness that the publishing and speaking doors that had previously been wide open to him would all slam tightly shut. Agree or disagree, this took guts.
Bottum's book is soon to be published and the NY Times provided an extensive puff piece profile. An avalanche of other favorable coverage followed in other organs of the legacy media. This windfall of favorable elite media attention far outweighs Bottum's loss of paltry fees he will no longer receive from impecunious conservative Catholic publications. This did not take "guts", it took calculation.
Are you trying to say you think it took heroic virtue to pretend he has cracked the code of natural law and tell homosexuals gay sex and marriage is not a sin?
This is not a religious issue. It has to do with civilization -the most basic component of it being the family.
Children need a mother (female) and father - (male) and not two wealthy elites actor playing a role.
Two years ago, I predicted in an email that Bottum would do exactly what he has done. It is a career move! Like his friend David Brooks formerly of Weekly Standard and now a NYT employee Bottum will be rewarded materially.
I was reminded of something I read about Thomas More. From his prison cell he could see those who had come to take an oath to King Henry's false marriage. After the oath they were rewarded with a glass of buttermilk.

According to Rorate Caeli (http://rorate-caeli.blogspot.com/2013/08/priorities-priorities.html), quoting from Commonweal magazine:
"Funding for [Joseph Bottum's] essay has been provided by a grant from the [liberal] Henry Luce Foundation."
Jody (his nickname) Bottum not only figuratively "sold out" but also literally "got paid for it".
Thanks. Luce also funds the perverts, pedophiles and incest group SEICUS.
If they give him more money, maybe he would write a story about how prostitution is not a sin.
Another jerk.
