ok...so?

Rorate has a post up about Pope Francis calling a group of nuns and leaving the following message on their phone:

"What are the nuns doing that they can't answer [the phone]? I am Pope Francis, I wish to greet you in this end of the year, I will see if I can call you later. May God bless you!"
ah?

Am I supposed to think this is disconcerting or odd?

The Pope makes his own phone calls and is playful with people.

Lighten up.

I absolutely love this about him.

If it is one thing I don't miss, it's the crackpot clerlicalism that turned a human being into a stilted and unreachable robot.

I don't miss that!

Rorate was rather unclear as to their take of this. I've no opinion one way or the other about this phone call. What does disgust me is the way the lamebrain media gloms onto these trivial incidents to paint a picture of the Holy Father as some lovable little goof, and more importantly, a goof who as Supreme Pontiff, is not to be taken seriously at all. Such an attitude can lead to eternal peril for some.

Janet, I see your point. Isn't the media is always going to find something to lead people to believe a Pope can't be taken seriously?

What makes this situation so disconcerting is the Pope himself has conveyed the teachings of the Church are not to be taken seriously.

I don't think the joy and intimacy of his interactions contributes to this phenomenon.

True, but the constant harping on the "warm-fuzzies" does - coupled with the Pope's missteps regarding Church teaching as you pointed out. The Supreme Pontiff is being turned into a teddy bear in the world's eyes. I'm sure both Pope Benedict and Pope John Paul II had their social relationships too, but I cannot recall the press glomming onto these like the salivating paparazzis that they are now.

It will be very interesting to see how this all plays out!

"The Supreme Pontiff is being turned into a teddy bear in the world's eyes."

That is the first step in Satan's plan to turn the papal office into the office of the false prophet.

I'm not talking about Pope Francis per se. I'm talking about a process.

There's no question that the devil is at play. IMO, his first steps were taken well over 30 years ago in the culture and in the Church.

Pope Francis, like Cardinal O'Malley, deeply loves Our Lord and His Church and I believe both men to desire to teach faithfulness to Christ.

It is their idea that withholding, ridiculing and undermining Church teaching to attract those offended by the Deposit of Faith that is a disaster to the children of the light.
