Marriage is a life-long covenant betwixted one man and one woman, sayeth Pope Francis

More coverage here.

He's heard the cry of the poor and responded.

Is it me or is the National Catholic Distortor ignoring it?

John Allen at the Boston Globe said...bupkis.

Steve Skojec said worse than nothing.

First, he said nothing about the clarity coming directly from the Pope but he is all over the lunatic fringe story that Pope Francis told a person who told another person who called their uncle fester to say the Pope said there's nothing wrong with going to Communion in a state of sin. He then goes on to say how offended he is when people point out hearsay about a phone call cannot be relied upon and it's as clear as the rubber ball on the end of his nose what's going down with the Pope.

If you're in the mood for entertainment, take a quick look at the all the crack pipes his piece lit up in the comments section.

Good grief.

Carol, I suggest you read this column from Ross Douthat, a devout Catholic who is *not* like the New York Times' usual herd of columnists.

Things could well be a lot more serious than you think.

I don't know Ross but there isn't anything new to give veracity to the whacked out statement.

The Pope knows that taking the Blessed Sacrament in a state of mortal sin is an act of spiritual suicide.

I just don't buy it. First because it an alleged conversation recounted by a third party. More importantly, it's... nuts.

The Synod in October is shaping up to become a "Spirit of Vatican II" rewrite of Catholic doctrine on marriage. Fashion your seatbelts Bishop Bergoglio has opened a Pandora's box of dissent. The Holy Spirit is unlikely to intervene in time to stop the coming tribulation.

Marriage between a man and a woman is primarily a child-centred institution aimed at giving children what they long for, namely the love of a mother and father.

Archbishop Salvatore J. Cordileone
Was a major leader in spearheading the implamenation of one man one woman marriage prop 8 which was overturned by Supreme Court..Chairman of the U.S. Bishops' Ad Hoc Committee for the Defense of Marriage, and he will be working to promote traditional marriage in the face of legislative efforts to legalize same-sex "marriage."

With contraception came more promiscuity. With promiscuity came more out wedlock babies and abortion on demand.
A child comes into the world by the union of a man and a woman. That's a basic biological fact that cannot be denied. There's a mother and a father for every child.

What's really at stake here, is the very concept of marriage itself. Is it a relationship to be defined by adults for their mutual benefit and enjoyment? Or is it a relationship to bring children into the world and to provide them with the best possible context for their well-being and education?
The optimal situation for children is to be raised by the man and the woman who brought them into the world in a loving, committed, stable relationship. Many studies show the role of the father figure — just the presence of the father figure in the family — is especially critical. Children need that.
