Fr Rutler's take on Amoris Laetitia

I salivate every time I see Fr. Rutler's taking on a subject!

"Here we go!", I say to myself.

I shut everything off that could be a distraction and I let every sentence run over my parched soul several times. Sometimes he builds momentum and fires a zinger or several of them. Other times he starts off with the zinger. Sometimes the zingers are subtle. Sometimes he does all of these things

Here's how he starts his thoughts on Amoris Laetitia:

There was a Victorian member of the Royal Academy who boasted that his paintings were the best because they were the biggest. More perceptively, Cicero and Pascal and Madame Recamier and Mark Twain made opposite apologies: each had written a long letter because they did not have the time to write a short one. Not only is verbosity indicative of muddled thinking, it is the rhetorical indulgence of the modern age.

Get yourself some popcorn and lemonade and read his thoughts on the exhortation.

I'm still only 1/3 of the way through the painful exhortation, but I was shocked to read Fr. Rutler enlightening us that Martin Luther King, Jr. is quoted in the exhortation.

Seriously? With all the saints and doctors of the Church...Martin Luther King, Jr?

Fr. Rutler's honesty and forthrightness is always so dependable and refreshing.

Among such mediocrities are those who replace prophecy with political correctness. You can tell who they are by what they say about Amoris Laetitia. Like those bishops whom Chrysostom disdained for trimming their sails to gain preferment, the careerist cleric knows what he must say and what he must not say. For years I have saved the Punch magazine cartoon of the sycophantic curate timorously telling his bishop that parts of his bad egg are excellent.

Here's something is indisputable: The Holy Spirit does not lead by causing a perpetual state of confusion.

There is no confusion. No reasonable Catholic could be confused at least from the moment Francis Bergoglio stated to Scalfari that atheists who do what seems right to them go to haven. Or since he said, like a true weasel, that God is not Catholic.

If Bergoglio is confusing anyone, it is those who want to be confused or those unable to reason on the level of an average 7 year old.

He, whom many accused of being senile (or excused on the grounds of alleged senility) is heretically, brutally, very successfully and completely unashamedly pushing for one world religion, while papolatry or cognitive dissonance keep the flock distructed.

Bergoglio denies Christ. He says, like a true weasel, not directly but repeatedly and very clearly nonetheless, that Christ is not the Way, the Truth and the Life.

No surprises here. Been going on since Vatican II and probably before. The urge to merge. Who could be more Protestant than the Pope? The folks are going to love it; some of the pomp and none of the guilt. What's not to like??

Absolutely Dorota! To be fair, I think those that say that he is 'confused, senile, and even demented' CANNOT BELIEVE the emphatically heretical and CLEAR statements that come out of the mouth of the 'Vicar of Christ'. They think he must have a 'mental problem' of some sort. The telling part of this whole disaster are the prelates who insist that 'everything is just fine, he has not changed one thing, business as usual', when they KNOW DARN WELL that AL is an earthquake that is designed to damage and maybe even destroy the Church of Christ as we know it.

Dorota, while I agree with your opinion on the Pope, I must remind you that God is not
Catholic. He's also not Protestant, Eastern Orthodox, Jewish, etc. God is God. Period. God defined Himself to Moses as I Am, without any qualifiers.

Anonymous,

This is complicated theology to explain, but I will try.

The Catholic Church is the Mystical Body of Christ. Christ gave His Life to leave us His Body so that we would have access to His Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity. Consequently, Christ and the Catholic Church are one and the same.

God does not offer salvation through a smorgasbord of religions. There is One God, He has One Church and It is Holy, Apostolic, Catholic Church. The salvation of those outside of the Catholic Church is therefore in peril because they are in a place that has absolutely no power to save souls. The Catholic Church is the only religion left by God that offers salvation. Anyone and everyone who obtains salvation will go through the Catholic Church which again, is Christ Himself.

On the day of reckoning, there may be mitigating factors that will save some of the souls who did not avail themselves of the tools of salvation on earth and mercy will apply. Those who were catechized will not be among them.

Hope this makes sense.
