Ireland's Adolf Hitler, Enda Kenny, being honored at Boston College

No doubt you've already heard the news that the Ireland's Adolf Hitler is being honored at Boston College.

As you can imagine, Boston (and national) prolifers have been quite busy behind the scenes.

I'll bet you're wondering how a Cardinal Archbishop of Boston would respond to the honoring of a man whose current project is lethally exterminating the infants of financially and spiritually impoverished women?

Here's a multiple choice quiz on Cardinal O'Malley's response:

1. He released a statement saying Kenny is doing irreparable harm and disservice to Christ's Church.
2. He immediately used his authority to demand Boston College rescind the invitation.
3. He said he would be unable to attend due to something he already had on his schedule.

Hint: A certain Boston Catholic blogger behaved badly.

On Mon, May 6, 2013 at 7:25 PM, Carol Mckinley wrote:

Hi Terry (Donilon, Cardinal O'Malley's 'spokesperson'),

Did the below statement come from you?

Responding to a request for comment, the Archdiocese of Boston noted that Cardinal Sean O'Malley was not scheduled to attend the Commencement due to another commitment.

Are we to understand this as the Cardinal's response?

He isn't going to be there due to the fact he has another event already on his calendar?

Enda Kenny is a ferocious enemy of Christ's Church who is, as we speak, actively entrapping Catholic souls into murder and spiritual mayhem.

You will not be surprised to hear me say that this sissified response is just not acceptable.   The Cardinal needs to put on the big boy pants and get this man off of the schedule.

Peace,Carol

I sent followup emails asking Terry, the Vicar General (among others) to have the courtesy to respond, explaining time is of the essence and prolife Catholics intend to appeal to the Holy See for intervention, explaining that there's isn't a dime's worth of difference between 'honoring' Kenny and the Taliban.

They responded with the usual and customary/decades-old pastoral policy.  You know the one?

Same one they used on mothers reporting their children were being raped:  When they do not call or respond to your communications pleading with them to stop the abuse - you know it's them.

CJ Doyle of the Catholic Action League has called for a protest (more on that later), released the following:

The Catholic Action League of Massachusetts today condemned Jesuit administered Boston College for selecting Republic of Ireland Taoiseach Enda Kenny as its 2013 Commencement Speaker. The university will also confer an honorary Doctor of Laws degree on Kenny during commencement exercises on May 20th.

On April 30th, Kenny's coalition government introduced legislation with the Orwellian title "The Protection of Life during Pregnancy Bill 2013," which would legalise abortion in Ireland under the guise of preventing the suicide of pregnant women. As there is no gestational age limit to the measure, it would mean abortion on demand, under threat of suicide, through all nine months of pregnancy.

Catholic hospitals would be forced to comply with the proposed law. Moreover, the bill contains no conscience clause protections for physicians, nurses, and other health care workers.

The Catholic Church has denounced the measure and called upon the Irish people to lobby their elected representatives to oppose it. Cardinal Sean Brady, the Primate of Ireland, said the bill, if approved would "make the direct and intentional killing of unborn children lawful in Ireland." Brady went on to say that: "It is a tragic moment for Irish society when we regard the the deliberate destruction of a completely innocent person as an acceptable response to the threat of the preventable death of another person."

Kenny has threatened to expel pro-life Catholic TDs (members of parliament) from his Fine Gael parliamentary party if they refuse to vote for measure, which is expected to be acted upon in July.

Last year, Kenny's government published legislation---The Criminal Justice (Withholding of Information on Offences Against Children and Vulnerable Persons) Bill---which would impose criminal penalties, including imprisonment up to five years, on priests who refuse to violate the seal of the confessional in cases of sexual abuse.

In a July, 2011 speech, Kenny misrepresented the words of Pope Benedict XVI to imply that the Pontiff approved the cover up of sexual abuse and castigated what he called the "dysfunction, disconnection, elitism" and "narcissism" of the Vatican. Following that attack, Kenny closed the Irish Embassy to the Holy See.

Boston College said Kenny represents the "progressive center" and is committed to "social justice."

The Catholic Action League called Kenny's selection "an astonishing, appalling, disgraceful and deplorable act of betrayal."

Catholic Action League Executive Director C. J. Doyle stated:"Even for a university whose Catholic identity is as compromised as that of BC, this decision is shameful and dishonorable. Boston College has gone beyond promoting dissent against Catholic teaching to giving aid and comfort to the enemies of the Church. Every faithful Catholic in this country ought to protest against this odious perfidy."

Catholic Action League Executive Director C. J. Doyle is an alumnus of Boston College.

Judie Brown of the American Life League has expressed the reasons why the invitation should be rescinded (much more graciously than I) along with many other local and national prolifers.

Boston College spokesperson Jack Dunn today told a reporter for the Irish Times that their ceremony honoring Enda Kenny has nothing to do with his lethal extermination of Irish children.

Get it?

Pay no attention to the dismembered bodies of the victims of Kenny's political empire.

Dunn said they dig Kenny because is an internationally respected leader, with a well-known reputation for (-brace yourself-) promoting human rights that resonate with Boston College.  It's all about the sons of Boston's Irish immigrants.

How's that for diabolical?

On the same day the Cardinal released his response, somebody posted a video on youtube that was a dramatic enactment.

In a village in the wiles of some jungle, a black family - grandparents, parents, children - were being beaten with pieces of trees by others in the village.  There was a very large crowd - hundreds - standing by watching it.  The beating was driving them into a nearby pit, where trees were lit on fire. The video zoomed in on the victims as they desperately tried to escape.  The villagers beat them back into the pit. Sometimes picking them up and throwing them into it.  The victims rocked back and forth and wailed as the fire consumed their clothes and then their flesh.  Hundreds stood around with their arms folded, watching.

Sickened by Boston College and Fr. Fahey, sickened the Cardinal, sickened by the Archdiocese, I forced myself to watch it.

This is exactly what they are doing.

What many are doing.

Too many are doing.

Praying for the victims in that village, the hundreds of thousands who die every day at the hands of their tyrants, those who watch with their arms folded, those who support and honor the liars and murderers.

Testifying: We see what they are doing and God sees what they are doing.

UPDATE

Boston.com has more.

Irish bishops have spoken out against the measure, calling it “a dramatic and morally unacceptable change to Irish law.”

"It is a tragic moment for Irish society when we regard the deliberate destruction of a completely innocent person as an acceptable response to the threat of the preventable death of another person,” they said in a state earlier this month...

From CJ:  Kenny has misrepresented the words of Pope Benedict XVI, insulted the Holy See and closed the Irish Embassy to the Vatican, “ the statement says. “At a time when the Church and the entire pro-life movement in Ireland is resisting this evil man, Boston College is honoring him!”

Jack Dunne said it's about heritage. Just a couple of harps celebrating their heritage with a jig. I guess it's a good thing for Boston Fr. Leahy and Jack Dunne are not Russians. It is entirely possible they'd honor a couple of bombers. Independent of bombings. Of course.

CJ Doyle's Press Release on Backtrack of Character at Landmark Hospital

ARCHDIOCESE OF BOSTON BACKTRACKS ON
SECULAR CHARACTER OF LANDMARK HOSPITAL

On  August 31st, the Catholic Action League of Massachusetts broke the story in the Catholic media that Caritas Christi Health Care --- the network of six Catholic hospitals affiliated with the Archdiocese of Boston --- would operate the Rhode Island hospital it is acquiring, Landmark Medical Center of Woonsocket, as a secular facility which would continue performing sterilizations and distributing contraceptives.

Within twenty four hours, the Archdiocese began to reverse the decision by Caritas to keep Landmark secular, and now asserts that Landmark will become a Catholic hospital compliant with Catholic medical ethics. This is a direct disavowal of the statement by Caritas Director of Media Relations Chris Murphy, who told The Providence Journal"Our intent is to preserve Landmark in its current form, which includes no religious affiliation."

The Catholic Action League called the reversal "a victory, though probably a temporary one, in the campaign to keep Caritas Catholic."

Catholic Action League Executive Director C. J. Doyle made the following comment: "First, Landmark was to become a Catholic hospital.  Then it wasn't.  Now, it is to become Catholic again. 'Who's in charge?'  might be a interesting question to explore."

"It is unimaginable that Caritas spokesman Chris Murphy would have publicly announced that Landmark was to remain a secular institution without the explicit approval of Caritas President Ralph de la Torre.  It is equally unlikely, that after fifteen months of negotiations between Landmark and Caritas, Doctor de la Torre would not have apprised his Board of Governors of this decision, which includes an Archdiocesan Cabinet Secretary and close advisor to Cardinal O'Malley."

"Whether the Archdiocese of Boston is trying to affirm Catholic moral teaching or simply trying to dig itself out of another embarrassing scandal of its own making, remains to be seen.  Given the buy-out clause which will allow the new owners of Caritas to terminate the Catholic identity of the system for the payment of an eight figure fee, it is likely that it won't take long for us to find out."

Catholic Action League on the Caritas Withdrawal

CARITAS CHRISTI WITHDRAWS FROM CELTICARE

The Catholic Action League of Massachusetts today welcomed the news that Caritas Christi Health Care --- the network of six Catholic hospitals affiliated with the Archdiocese of Boston --- has withdrawn, under Archdiocesan pressure, from the HMO CeltiCare, which it co-founded and co-owned with the Centene Corporation. CeltiCare was established in May to administer a state funded Commonwealth Care health insurance contract, scheduled to start on July 1, which includes abortion coverage. It was the Catholic Action League which revealed on June 8 that CeltiCare advertised abortion as part of its health plans and listed Planned Parenthood as a reproductive services provider.

The Catholic Action League called the decision by Caritas to withdraw from CeltiCare “an 11th hour, but only partial victory, for the thousands of pro-life Catholics who have spent the last four months bombarding the Archdiocese of Boston with letters, petitions, phone calls and e-mails. The League warned however, that any continued participation by Caritas Christi in Commonwealth Care would obligate Caritas, directly or indirectly, to make abortion referrals.

Catholic Action League Executive Director C. J. Doyle stated: “Caritas Christi has indicated that a woman seeking an abortion at a Caritas hospital will be sent back to her insurer. For Commonwealth Care members that insurer will be CeltiCare, which will not only procure the abortion but will provide transportation to the abortion facility. Instead of offering compassionate alternatives to abortion, Caritas Christi will still be engaged in a two-step abortion referral. Troubling questions also remain about whether Caritas has already benefited financially from this contract, and whether it continues to have an ongoing relationship with the Centene Corporation.”

“Other questions are still unanswered. It has been publicly known since the 27th of February that this contract entailed participation in state subsidized abortions. The Caritas Christi Board of Governors, which includes an Archdiocesan Cabinet Secretary, has presumably known this since the end of 2008. Why did Caritas, with Archdiocesan support, seek to secure and eventually sign a contract which they knew to be morally problematic? Why did Cardinal O'Malley castigate the now vindicated critics of the contract as doing ‘a great disservice to the Catholic Church’? Why did it take the Archdiocese six months (just five days before the start-up date) to begin to disengage?”

“Caritas withdrew from CeltiCare because it became a toxic public relations liability for the Archdiocese, provoking a firestorm of pro-life opposition throughout the country. If Caritas is to remain faithful to Catholic moral principles is must withdraw however, not only from CeltiCare but from the entire Commonwealth Care contract."

Catholic Action League's Response to the Cardinal & Caritas' Dishonorable Joint Statement

CARDINAL O’MALLEY, CARITAS CHRISTI, AND ABORTION

The Catholic Action League of Massachusetts today took issue with the statements released yesterday by Sean Cardinal O'Malley, Archbishop of Boston, and Dr. Ralph de la Torre, President of Caritas Christi Health Care, regarding the Commonwealth Care contract awarded to the Caritas Christi/Centene Corporation partnership, now known as CeltiCare. This contract, offering health insurance to low-income Bay State adults, due to take effect on July 1, includes abortion coverage.

The Archdiocese stated that “Caritas is in active discussions with Celtic Group and CeltiCare with a view to making acceptable modifications to their arrangement.” The Cardinal went on to say that “...under no circumstances will Caritas either perform procedures prohibited by [Catholic teaching] or refer any patient to other providers who perform or procure such procedures.” Dr. de la Torre said “when the patients seek such a procedure, Caritas...will be clear that (a) the hospital does not perform them and (b) the patient must turn to his or her insurer for further guidance.”

Ironically, these statements came just one day after Brian Delaney, CeltiCare’s Director of Communications, when asked whether the Caritas hospitals would refer a patient seeking an abortion to the Caritas/Centene call center, answered “I believe so.” Meanwhile, The Boston Globe reports that Caritas Christi now owns a 49% share of CeltiCare, and that NARAL Pro-Choice Massachusetts will serve on CeltiCare’s advisory board.

The Catholic Action League described the statements as “yet more unpersuasive denials intended to obscure the fact that as of July 1, Caritas Christi will be in the abortion business.”

Catholic Action League Executive Director C. J. Doyle stated: “The Archdiocese has known for at least 3 1/2 months that this contract requires abortion coverage. Now with less than three weeks to the startup date, the cardinal is suddenly seeking modifications, having previously castigated others who questioned the contract. This reversal begs the questions of why Caritas sought this contract in the first place; why they signed it knowing it was problematic; and why they failed to raise these issues when they testified before the awarding agency on March 12. This last minute call for revisions is either a desperate public relations ploy aimed at diffusing opposition from pro-life Catholics, or a stunning admission of institutional incompetence, or both.”

“The Cardinal’s statement is contradicted by that of Dr. de la Torre. In sending a patient seeking an abortion back to her insurer, Caritas will be sending Commonwealth Care members to the Caritas/Centene partnership, which will not only procure the abortion but lists Planned Parenthood as a reproductive services provider. The Commonwealth of Massachusetts in 2009 will allow no exemption for Caritas Christi in the matter of abortion. Caritas must withdraw from this contract.”

Blessed Are the Poor, For They Shall Inherit Abortion

More details are emerging on Cardinal O'Malley's Abortion Business to "save" Caritas Christi.

Most importantly, the Cardinal's actions have a catastrophic impact to faithfully practicing Catholics at Catholic Hospitals.

When patients come in, doctors, physicains, nurses and other health care workers will be forced into:

1. Sins of omission when their patients are other practicing Catholics
2. Material cooperation in abortions that will be asked for in crises pregnancies.

This violates Catholic teaching any way you slice it. Rounding up Catholic Medical Associations is paramount to protect the rights of Catholics to practice medicine without violating their conscience.

Further, forget about Sebelius and Obama, Cardinal O'Malley has already eliminated the conscience clause for Catholics in Massachusetts. Rounding up Catholic Medical Associations is paramount to protect the rights of Catholics to practice medicine without violating their conscience.

Other dioceses will fall if we do not put the kibosh on this abomination.

Today's Globe, Terrance Donilon is trying to give the impression that the Archbishop is not the authority of record and therefore not a respondent to questions about the Caritas abortion venture.
Asked about the issue, Terrence Donilon, spokesman for the Boston Archdiocese, said in an e-mailed statement that "Caritas is the appropriate agency to respond," and declined further comment.

This is disingenuous and let me tell you the reasons why.

Caritas Christi is a non-profit corporation. Non-profits are not controlled by CEOs, COOs or any officer of the corporation. They are controlled by the Board of Directors. The Board of Directors can't act willy nilly - they approve all business partnerships and ventures by "votes". They're bound to corporation by-laws that describe business of obtaining votes to move forward with projects.

Michael Paulson put up an article on his blog that points out that last year, there was a change in the structure of Caritas Christi that has to be carved out in By-Laws. These By-Laws retain the authority of the religious and ethical mission of the hospital to the authority of Cardinal O'Malley.

Although the archdiocese has in recent years sought to grant Caritas more independence, it has said that the church remains responsible for the hospital's compliance with Catholic teaching. Here's what the archdiocese said in a statement last year:

"Under the new model, the Archdiocese’s reserve powers are limited to matters pertaining to Catholic identity, mission, and the implementation of the religious and ethical directives of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, and any transaction that would involve the sale or transfer of the system."
The Chancery is in pretty tough shape when the Boston Globe is ahead of them on who has what authority and how killing people is supposed to be over the line to an Archbishop.

Then the directives get into a complicated area of moral theology regarding the definition of "cooperation,'' but suggest that it's up to the bishop (in this case Cardinal Sean P. O'Malley) to "assess and address" what's happening

Essentially and legally, Cardinal O'Malley is therefore the party of the first part on the ethical sign off and approval.

In fact, legally the Board of Directors could not have possibly take a legal action to enter into the abortion venture until they get Cardinal O'Malley's signature of approval in writing.

The Cardinal wasn't hoodwinked and he is not in a bunker trying to come up with a strategy to thwart the abortion business he signed off on.

According to the Boston Globe Caritas-Centene is entering a "joint venture". A joint venture is not a phrase you throw about casually. I'm willing to bet there is a legal instrument called "joint venture".

(I hope the ink isn't dry on the venture. The last annual report Caritas Christi filed with the Massachusetts Secretary of State was 2007. They're legally out of compliance to do business in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.)

Two more things below - one is an email that I sent to the Cardinal and am circulating through my networks and asking others to do so as well and the other is a press release from the Catholic Action League.

Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

No doubt you all know by now that Caritas Christi is slated for the abortion industry courtesy of the Cardinal Archbishop of Boston. While the fingerprints left at the scene are no doubt J. Bryan Hehir's, this could not be achieved without the full consent of Cardinal O'Malley.

Below, please find the email I sent out to Cardinal O'Malley, Fr. Erickson with a courtesy copy to the Rev. Hehir.

If Barack Obama and Kathleen Sebelius forced Caritas Christi to go into the abortion business, we would all be in full throttle public rebellion.

How clever they were to use a weak Bishop to get this through. The proaborts are relying upon that old worn out excuse to be craven that it is ill-mannered to raise public opposition to our Bishops/Cardinals.

Please don't hand this territory to them without a fight.

I'm spending the next few days contacting some Bishops and a few lay people to encourage them to make personal contact with the Cardinal Archbishop of Boston. If I may impose on each of you to circulate an effort to your networks to encourage the same.

I'm hoping if he gets several phone calls from high-placed people, he will rescind.

If this effort fails, I will be in touch regarding a more public opposition.

Oh, and please get the prayer warriors going?

In Christ,

Carol McKinley

By way of this email, I will entrust that you ensure the Cardinal reads my email.

If I don't open the Boston Globe by Friday, March 6th to read this deal has been rescinded, I shall proceed.

Cardinal Sean,

While I was keenly aware that former Attorney General was placed at Caritas Christi to marshall in abortion at Catholic Hospitals when all the Democrats had their people in place, my conviction was that you were hoodwinked and when the paperwork crossed your desk, surely, you would reject being a formal cooperator with abortions.

This cannot stand unopposed. Every physician, nurse, pharmacist and worker at our Catholic Hospitals will be faced with quitting their job or join you in your formal cooperation with abortion. You do not have the authority to give this freedom away.

This must be and will be vehemently opposed. How clever they were. If it were Obama and Sebelius eliminating Catholic religious freedom to practice medicine, there would be an uproar. They are banking on the armchair warriors who consider it ill-mannered to raise a spiritual army against one's own Cathedra.

I have no desire, nor time to do this and I would ask that you get down on your knees and ask for the courage to rescind this deal, as soon as humanly possible.

Today is Tuesday, March 3rd. If I do not open the Boston Globe and find a correction of this abomination, I shall proceed to publicly raise the spiritual army.

Emminence, with all due respect and in the charity of my Baptismal duty, permit me to remind you what I doubt anyone there has the courage to say to you: Your soul is in grave danger should you proceed on this path.

Sincerely in Christ,

Carol McKinley

CATHOLIC ACTION LEAGUE CONDEMNS CARITAS CHRISTI ON ABORTION REFERRALS

The Catholic Action League of Massachusetts today condemned Caritas Christi Health Care, a network of six Catholic hospitals affiliated with the Archdiocese of Boston, for bidding on a state contract that would require it to provide referrals for abortions, sterilizations, and contraceptive services. Caritas has formed a partnership with the St. Louis based Centene Corporation, called the Commonwealth Family Health Plan, which is the low bidder on a contract to provide state-subsidized health insurance to 163,000 low-income adults in the Bay State’s Commonwealth Care program. On Friday, the Caritas-Centene partnership issued a statement indicating that it “will contract with providers, both in and out of the Caritas network, to ensure access to all services required by the Authority, including confidential family planning services.”

The Catholic Action League called the proposal “an appalling betrayal of Catholic principles and a grave scandal.”

Catholic Action League Executive Director C. J. Doyle stated: “By accepting this contract, which entails material cooperation with evil, Caritas will fatally compromise its Catholic identity, undermine Church teaching on the sanctity and dignity of innocent human life, and deprive the Catholic community in Massachusetts of access to an authentic Catholic healthcare system, untainted by collaboration with what Pope John Paul II rightly called ‘the culture of death’.”

“Unlike the law requiring Massachusetts hospitals to dispense so-called emergency contraception, (which at least four out of the six Caritas hospitals now comply with), this proposed contract represents not a government mandate, but a voluntary surrender, for financial benefit, of the Catholic moral standards enshrined in the mission statement of Caritas Christi. Moreover, the timing of this improvident decision is horrendous. Just as the Obama Administration is revisiting the issue of conscience clauses for pro-life Catholic doctors and nurses, Caritas Christi is sending the wrong message that cooperation with abortion is permissible for Catholic institutions.”

“It is up to the Archbishop of Boston, Sean Cardinal O’Malley, whose delegate Fr. Brian Hehir, serves on the board of Caritas Christi, to exercise episcopal leadership and recall Caritas to its Catholic mission, identity, and integrity. This contract must be abandoned.”
