Bishop Lynch/Bryan Hehir Booty Call Conference

After the revelations of this Florida conference and the story in today's Globe on a Boston priest who got caught in a prostitution sting, I'd like to know exactly what it is they are teaching in the Archdiocese of Boston at St. John's seminary.

Permit me to explain what I mean.

Here's what Bryan Hehir's colleague in the conference is teaching about human sexuality to gay Catholics:

We begin by standing beside gay people as they hear the voice of the Lord that summons them to life and happiness. We accompany them as they wrestle with discovering what this means and how they must walk. And this means letting our imaginations be stretched open to watching Brokeback Mountain, reading gay novels, having gay friends, making that leap of the heart and the mind, delighting in their being, listening with them as they listen to the Lord.

You have to really translate this into what they would teach heterosexuals to see how absurd it is:

We begin by standing beside heterosexual people as they hear the voice of the Lord that summons them to life and happiness. We accompany them as they wrestle with discovering what this means and how they must walk. And this means letting our imaginations be stretched open to watching Pretty Woman, reading prostitute novels, having prostitute friends, making that leap of the heart and the mind, delighting in their being, listening with them as they listen to the Lord.
I'll spare you the analogy on Tiger Woods that would blow your socks off.

Why bring up sexuality at all?  It's supposedly a.. Eucharistic Conference.

Wouldn't you be talking about the Sacraments of Confession and Holy Communion?  Worthy conduct to receive the Eucharist?

Something isn't right there in the brains -- and moreover pants - of the characters involved in the conference.

If a priest talks up Confession and Adoration, he's doing it.

The same goes for prostitution, promiscuity and booty calls.

This is the time for private detectives.

Fr. Bryan Hehir's most recent conference scandal scheduled in Bishop Lynch's has many people wondering just how far Cardinal O'Malley lets his priests go before he intervenes in scandalous behavior.

As the Catholic Church is the middle of a tornado of accusations that local Bishops and the Vatican do not take priests trolling for sexual partners seriously, including children, what could be worse than a Cardinal and an Bishop enabling a Conference of speakers who encourage sexual arousal and promiscuity?

Encouraging priests to be sexually active is the first step on the road of using the power of a roman collar to sexually take advantage of somebody else.  Our religion  teaches us to revere and respect the sexuality of another human being.  We refrain from selfishly enticing others into something that offends God and wipes out their sanctifying grace.   This is not something we do to somebody we love.

How can anybody who cares about humanity, much less God, ignore these basic principles?

This amounts to constructive permission of a Cardinal, Bishop and priests to participate in a booty call conference.

Why is it that the sexual abuse scandal reformation of the Catholic Church doesn't yet have the processes in place to get immediate intervention on dangerous scandals when they involve sexuality?

This is just not acceptable.

Readers have been emailing and posting questions about the efficacy of putting the paper trail under the noses of the Papal Nuncio and the Roman Curia.

Some influential people have even suggested that the Bishops, the Cardinals, the Vatican will rally around the abusers of power and fortify them.

That doesn't excuse us from putting the paper trail under their nose.  This isn't a contest of wills or a game that will have a winner and a loser.   We've just got to do the right thing and Trust in Christ.   The outcome is immaterial.

Put the paper trail on the Cardinal's desk, the papal nuncio's desk, the appropriate dicastries at the Vatican and ask for Bryan J. Hehir's removal.    In fact, the Chancellor of the Boston Archdiocese should also be held accountable.

Fr. Hehir has reorganized the leadership team in the Archdiocese and  last remaining faithful Catholic in the Cardinal's Cabinet (Scot Landry) has been effectively removed.

Oh Carol...when will you FINALLY open your eyes. If this type of behavior wasn't condoned from the top of the Vatican, it wouldn't be talked about so freely by these so-called 'men of god'.

The priesthood has been a 'good ole boys' club for decades and, with apoligies to the famous Las Vegas, but happens behind closed doors with priests/bishops, STAYS behind closed doors.

The sexual perversion/promiscuity of priests has been the worst kept secret in the history of mankind. Are you really surprised abou these 'tales from the front'? To pretend that these clowns practice celibacy is a fallacy reserved only for those, like yourself, who are walking around with those rose-colored blinders permanently affixed to your face.

Wake up Carol. There isn't a Santa Claus, there's no Easter bunny and. sorry to break the news...priests are human and have human needs that CAN'T be suppressed to include being true to their sexuality. I'm not talking just gay sex, but healthy heterosexual relations as well.

Celibacy for priests is a fantasy concept that only exists in the fertile imaginations of those, such as yourself, who refuse to open your eyes to reality.

Has CTL.NYC still looking for you to appear in their movie?? Here's your chance to be on the 'big screen'.

Go for it!!

Men can't suppress their sexual urges?

Do you know how often men have sexual thoughts if they let their genitals take over their brain?

Your husband must be a barrel of laughs at work every time a pretty woman walks by. Is that the excuse he's using to explain his prostitutes?

Get him some help. Even if you don't have faith, there are secular clinics for that now. Do a google on where Jesse James and Tiger Woods went.

Can't you see he's been lying to you? What do you think men do when they get aroused on a public train or in a public park?

What do teachers do when they get aroused during work?

Why, they suppress their urges!

I admire you for being more straight forward with your agenda...'so called men of god'(not capitalized) 'clowns'. You're a detractor of priests and the Catholic Church. That's why you raised holy hell against a priest who actually called in authorities within minutes of finding out and you coddled two mentally immature teachers who thought the priest's teenager lover was their friend and kept the "secret" for over two years. It's probably why the parishioners at the parish and the Bishop are supportive the psychopath to keep up his website on your.

You poor lamb. How sad.

In reality, plenty of priests and in fact lay people practice celibacy. Widowers, single men, divorced men -etc. All you have to do is stay away from pornography and keep your mind on the Lord. Christ said the faith of a mustard seed could move a mountain.

Something odd about anonymouse. Obviously there is a history here of previous discussions. It also seems that Mrs Anonymouse is a woman. May I ask if she was at any time approached or propositioned by a Catholic priest. we should at least know her bias just as we know Carol's.
I would definitely challenge her statement on the priestly ageless practice of sexual perversion and promiscuity. Do you have historical facts and figures to prove it. Social studies prove today that the % of priests who menace young people sexually is no higher than the ration of Yale's teaching profession this last year. Of course it seems for this person her personal opinion, her private revelations far out weigh the true facts and justifies her moral and ethical life. Please give it a rest if you cannot provide chapter and verse for your accusations. If you were truly catholic and understood grace you would understand that the vow of celibacy is aided by a personal grace that will help you overcome temptations. Two things before you write, I urge cut your toenails before you put you feet where they seem to belong and I ask do you really mean after reading Carol, that she is a dippy dreamer. I do not think so.

Keep mixing up the issues. Typical catholic defense.

Has anyone ever accused Yale University of concealing and covering up sexual abuse allegations in the manner that the catholic church has ADMITTED to?

Just today pope Ratso admitted that the church erred in the way it handled the sexual abuse crisis within the church. C'mon...even your beloved leader has the guts to admit that the church screwed up big time.

I fail to see the logic of Carol's infatuation with Tiger Woods? Does it mean that because Tiger can't keep it zipped, that that somehow excuses priests from engaging in that behavior? Whether you like it or not, nobody expects celebrities to act in a christian manner.

And besides, if you don't see a distincntion between Tiger Wood's behavior and men of god who betray the trust of the children that worship them then you guys are truly lost.

Nobody EXPECTS Tiger to act like a man of god. Nobody's trust was betrayed by Tiger, other than his wife's. No children were sexually abused by Tiger. The women who slept with Tiger were adults and did so willingly.

Are we know talking about the 'silent' scandal of priests sleeping with married women or are we focused on the children that were betrayed by them. Those are two VERY different issues. Both are widespread. Women who WILLINGLY sleep with priests at least know what they're getting into.

Just what are you on about?
I cannot comprehend your interpretations. I made a comparison between the number of priests and the percentage of sexual predators inside and outside the church you brush a legitimate comparison aside. You still fail to give the proof to your sweeping statement, your version of history on the centuries. You ignorantly and without respect for the man Pope Benedict who admitted there are wrongs about the whole sorry mess. Yale did cover up and it took a lawsuit to expose it. I visited a prison for sexual deviants no one else wanted to. I can say from experience there were 100 teachers and one catholic priest. Where are your facts. Look at what you wrote both times who is mixing up the issues? Who is giving opinions without comparison. I do not defend the Church and neither does Carol. In fact if you had knowledge and intelligence to use it, you cannot show me where Carol defends the guilty. Where as you completely without charity condemns all innocent and foolish priests. Logic is obviously not your forte and nor is reason. Get your facts straight and stop writing in the ink that comes from the nether end of the bull.

For starters, you are taking a few handful of pedophile in the 2000 year history of the priesthood to make the word pedophile synonymous with priest and therefore Christ's Church should be dismantled. Which, is as asinine as saying all golfers are perverts and the WGA should be dismantled.

Why don't you just be honest. The real problem is, you want to sleep around, you don't believe in the Sacraments, you don't want to go to Church. You want to slander to Pope with false accusations. And, you are out in the public square trying to encourage others into your way of "loving Christ".

The most astounding thing to me is that you actually believe you be rewarded for these deeds with eternal salvation.

You weren't supposed to be worshiping priests, you were supposed to be worshiping God. Priests are human people who are sorely tempted and tested by the devil in every conceivable way. Those of us who are not priests or saints could ever understand the attacks and temptations that come down on their head.

The facts now are out to debunk your allegations about a big Pope cover up. The onus was on the local Bishop and when the Pope received the evidence, he acted upon it swiftly but justly - investigating to give the accused a fair trial.

I'm not going to let you hijack my blog like you did your local parish. I'm going to start deleting and blocking you and say a prayer for the poor bugger you'll go after next to feed your insatiable appetite for destruction of Christ's Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity.

Hi Anonymouse,
Tell you what I will start another blog and you and I can fight it out. My Catholicism against your pseudo_whatever religion. You against my experience with these unfortunates that need help. A help your less than magnanimous ego HATES. I will write of my dreadful (in the proper meaning) pity for the mothers of these forsaken broken children of God and you can spit out all your venom on me. How about it, by the way I shall send both a link to your parish priest and your Bishop. Shall we try it or are too cowardly to stand in the light and be recognized. By the way if carol will allow the plug and she is welcome to remove it, try mikehurcum.blogspot.com

The problem is that the Pope had direct authority and responsibility of some of the pedophiles and yet refused to remove them or even impose some sort of punishment. The Pope was not directly involved in the mass abuses, but he was aware and he chose to do nothing.

See it this way, if you knew your neighbor, coworker, or friend was abusing hundreds of children would you not report it?

The churches fault is that it refused to address the problem and continues to refuse to apology, casting the blame not on a system that continued to promote abuses by not doing anything (the church) and putting the blame on outside sources and the media for finally allowing the world to see the extent of the abuses.

Should we be blaming the messenger (the media) for the problem, or the perpetrator?

If a handful of police raped children under the same precinct and under the watch of its commanding officer, would you not be outraged, and would you not want the police officers arrested and tried? Would you not demand the commanding officer be held accountable for not stopping the abuses? And would you not be thankful for the media who brought the issue to the light of day?

I don't know the history of what's gone on between Carol and Ms Angry Anonymouse, but I think if Ms A had facts to back up her claims, she wouldn't mind identifying herself...
Meanwhile, I'd suggest some factual reading about this issue. Check Phil Lawler's "Journalists Abandon Standards to Attack the Pope."

Oh, I get it. When your being sexually abused or your pocketbook gets stolen in Church you don't call the police, you call the Pope and he calls the police for you.

For those of us who dial 911 on our own when we're victims of crimes, that's a mighty interesting world you live in.

I'm suer it's me - because I don't seem to be able to say this in a way that helps you to understand - but I'll try again.

When people are raped, the onus is actually on you to call the police (or your mother if you are a minor), not the Pope. Let's put the onus on calling the police (or the failure to do so) where it belongs.

In terms of defrocking an accused priest - that isn't going to be done without a trial. Not only does he have the right to assert a defense against falsehoods, but the Vatican is not going to hand over Christ's priests for defrocking for fists full of cash on the whims of folks like yourself who hold the Body and Blood reserved in the Sanctuary at zero value and want to twist the situation to discard 2000 years of Holy Priests, Saints, Martyrs and the Sacraments. It simply isn't going to happen. Calvary was a victory that wonthe Church and the Sacraments for those who want Them from the time of Christ ad infinatum.

The faithful are going to stand up in the public square and demand justice for the accused as a civil and constitutional right in this country.

You sit on the sidelines and heckle those coming and going into receive the Blessed Sacrament all you want. It isn't going to make one iota of difference to those who value the Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity of Christ enough to Worship and Adore.

The fun has just begun. Bring it on. Hit us with your best shot. When you do, we'll go down saying Lord, please forgive them for they know not what they. With our last breath you'll hear Viva Christo Rey.

Cheers!

Again you do it, ignore facts and broadcast your opinions which by the way are not even the way of the world. Imagine the lawsuits if priests were defrocked automatically. You say or write about rapes and what would happen to police who raped. well tell that to the young woman in Baltimore I believe was hauled off to the police station from the abortuary and physically abused by the police including it seemed rape. Was one policeman punished? You are still a coward. You are never going to answer my challenge are you? You have neither guts nor honor and I would so far as to say lack the grace of an intelligence fostered by and united to God through Sanctifying Grace. You murmur and foment hatred and I see as is usual with those like you, in thought or deed, are obstinate and do see both sides of the coin. Once again we are all so sorry for you in your stubbornness. My offer still exists or are you frightened that your bishop and parish priest might find out your views. Tell us

Sorry I meant at the end I meant do do not see both sides of the coin.

I appreciate your efforts to try to flush this out, but I'm not up for a donnybrook in my comments section with detractors of the Catholic Church.

The saddest thing was her revelation that priests (and I assume all people in general) lack the tools to refrain from acting on sexual arousal.

I cannot imagine being so lost in the wages of my sins that spiritual amnesia sets in so that I can't even remember when I'm unable to refrain from impulses with discipline, I have been left the precious gift of Sacramental power and grace to overcome my weaknesses.

How tragic.

There is at least some hope when you can remember but reject it - some tiny spark in your conscience that can ignite a flame -- but to be in such a place spiritually that your memory of Sacramental power and grace gets wiped out? God save us all from that fate.

Phil Lawler's article, kindly linked below, tells her everything she needs to know about her false witness against the Pope. Imagine the gravity that sin? Whoah. I'm not giving a podium to it - for the sake of her own soul.
