UPDATE - The Massachusetts Catholic Vote on Tuesday - Throw the Bums Out

The idea here is to get as many seats as possible away from carrying out the dictates of the Obama White House.

My recommendation:

Write ins:

Scott Lively, Governor, Keith Davis, Lt. Governor

***UPDATE  - Jim McKenna for Attorney General

After some controversy in the last few weeks of the McKenna campaign, namely that McKenna was quoted as saying he would not work to repeal abortion laws but would work to repeat DOMA, McKenna has issued a correction.

McKenna's staff is apparently being run by Beth Lindstrom of Romneybot fame.  Lindstrom was Scott Brown's campaign manager, who won in spite of her.  Scott is an affable fellow - and was and is certainly better than Coakley, but the Romneybots hijacked MCFL and used them to lie to prolifers about Brown's positions.  Apparently, their targets for campaign lies on McKenna's run was the gay community.   The Scott Brown tornado in the prolife community is a lightening rod that is the proverbial straw that broke the camel's back in the prolife community.  Grassroot prolifers are in no mood for any more nonsense.

In any event, the Romneybots apparently made up the quotes, attributed them to McKenna and emailed to Bay Windows, the largest Boston gay newspaper.

The McKenna staffers involved include Laura Keehner Rigas, McKenna's PR person, and possibly also Beth Lindstrom, his campaign strategist. Lindstrom, a longtime Republican apparatchik, was Scott Brown's campaign manager and did extensive work for Mitt Romney. They apparently decided that there was some political advantage to do this, even without McKenna's direct knowledge, and despite the fact that it's contrary to his personal views.

Romney's clan is out of touch with prolifers.  They don't know what to say or how to say it and what it means when prolifers have to spend hours getting to the bottom of your position on life.   I don't know why prolifers keep hiring the Romneybots but I hope this is another lesson that will be put an end to it.

The Republicans better pull their heads out of their butts.

Here's how one can be honest without creating a firestorm:

"Like everyone else, I have personal convictions. My role as AG is to enforce current law. Personally, I do not believe that killing an unborn child is the answer in an unexpected pregnancy. While some tout this as "safe", it is not safe for the person who is killed and the mother, who later in life deeply regrets what she has done suffers in many ways that the public is ignoring. I believe all funds being used for abortion should be put into helping the mother stabilize her situation and adoption processes. I believe the majority in this country are with me on that. While I may support my ideals in my personal life, I will not use my role as AG to thwart current laws"

Guy Carbone would make a fantastic candidate.  This is a tight race.  With the clarifications Jim McKenna has made, it is in our best interest to vote for McKenna.

William Campbell  Secretary of State  (he is reported in the grassroots as 'to the best of our knowledge prolife')

Treasurer - leave blank.   Two proaborts.

Mary Connaughton , Auditor

Keith Davis, Lt. Governor

Jim Lyons 18th district seat house of reps
Dan Webster 10th district.

District 5 - vote Dale Brown.

Here's Bill Cotter's comments which I completely agree with.  - Vote the Democrats out across the board.  (desperation/protest vote).   We actually have a few good solid prolife candidates - most of them are a mixed bag.

The District 10 Vote between Perry and Keating, has been a struggle for me.  I was completely dissatisfied with how he responded to questions asking him to clarify whether he would actually vote for life but after a lot of back and forth, he did say he would.   My struggle was compounded with his past history that is murky on honesty in various other things that happened on his journey in life.      What tipped the scale for me is that several solid prolifers on the Cape have worked with him and he has put effort in on the ground.  Moreover, his opponent's vote is definitely not going to be with us.   Vote for Perry.

The Barney Frank vote is a very close one.   See Bill Cotter's notes:

DISTRICT 4 - SEAN BIELAT (R) v. BARNEY FRANK (R)
By all means, if you live in the district, vote for Bielat.  But don't mistake him for a pro-life stalwart. Check out Bielat's stammering reponse to a question about abortion during a debate with Barney Frank. Refused to answer direct question on whether he opposed Roe v Wade! Go to http://www.votecorevalues.org/Congress/2010_CONGRESS.html and scroll down to the 4th Congressional District and click on the video. Embarrassing!
The issues.

NO on Question 1.

Repeal the sales tax on alcoholic beverages, recently passed by the Legislature.

The last thing we need is to start cutting money to take care of our poor, our police, our firemen, our children's education - etc.  I couldn't give two wooden nickels if people buying their booze have to pay more money.  When essential services start drying up, taxpayers are going to end up footing that bill.

NO on Question 2.

Repeal the 40B law regarding permits for low-income housing.

We're in a foreclosure crisis.   We can't take away services for housing that many snooty towns would like to see in the inner city where families do not do as well.

NO on Question 3.

Question 3: Reduce the sales tax to 3%

Same reasons as described in #1.

Prayer over the next few days is critical.  But I don't have to say that to my readers!

I was with you on everything until the referenda. I say yes on all. State blackmail over services and manipulation of towns has to stop.

We need to create a lot of rich people who will reignite business investment and get folks back to work. Another break we need is a deduction for all charitable giving.

What are you thinking on McKenna? This guy is solid pro-life and scores 100% with MCFL. He has said he would enforce a series of life laws that are currently not being enforced and will save 1200 kids a year. Even on Friday on Howie Carr he vowed he was pro-life. Who are you getting your fasle information from? Please reconsider!
This McKenna is a god sent!

John,

What McKenna said was "I pledge I won't work to change abortion laws"

He also said he would work to strike down DOMA.

Too much for me. If he was so prolife, his statements would be the other way around.

I'm not sure what series of life laws not currently being enforced is he talking about?

McKenna makes me sick with his pandering to homos over marriage. Anyone who fails to understand why government should foster and protect normal long-lasting marriages does not deserve to be a town clerk, much less an AG or governor. But worse, McK militates against marriage. What a creep!

TTC said...

btw - please feel free to leave your thoughts...

John said...

Lets Take DOMA first - He has said clearly first that he beleives marriage is between a man and a women. He will pursue DOMA because the issue of Gay Marriage needs to be decided by Supreme Court.
MA Resistance just doesn't get this! They think he should abandon the suit. To do so would be negligent! This is a national issue - not just a state of MA issue. So they position it negatively against Jim. ABSURD!

McKenna is solid Pro-Life.

He can not change abortion laws. The AG can not do that. He is not running for STate Rep or Senate. His goal is to enforce the laws. Including the Life Laws that are not being enforced.

You guys amaze me... you really do. You think you understand it all.. make your decisions... and never realize that you do not even or have you ever really searched out the TRUTH. Who are the real Hypocrits?

TTC said...

Thanks John.

I agree one hundred percent that a politician can't defy law and in this case with the attorney general, he must uphold laws in existence. But to say he will never work to repeal the abortion law?

You may not be able to say you work to repeal in your personal life, or you could say you won't use the AG office for this crusade, but to say what he did is a red flag.

We are in over our heads right now freeing the deposit of faith but if you can get me something that clarifies what he meant to say, I am happy to change my endorsement. We are quite aware thepresscan twist something but pols have to get on it. Some of us are not istening to Howie Carr.

Everyone here is on your team Sean. We are not looking to make a mountain out of a molehill.

If he did not say he would work to repeal DOMA and he instead said that he wants the matter to be decided federally, that is something he ought to cllarfy.

Whyy wouldn't he, like the rest of us, also want federal protection for life be taken up at SOCUS like the rest of us? That is what we don't get.

John,

I just wasted twenty minutes trying to get to the bottom of McKenna and DOMA, and I'm still with Carol. What I've found just makes my opinion more solid. Someone from his campaign let "Bay Windows" run a front page article on McK wanting to fight DOMA. Mass Resistance has McK saying he didn't do it himself. McK's site doesn't touch this Bay Windows flap at all. My conclusion: Mck is OK with what Bay Windows ran. Hence, no vote here.

Oops - the comment from Anonymous at 7:26 AM was mine.

It is not that we didn't go to try to find the truth about his positions, it's when we did go looking for it, we spent considerable time and we couldn't find it.

Clearly you can see above that I and others have recommended we oust the bums in office and made clear some of the people we recommended are not prolife but getting tthe bum that is in there out right now is critical.

The difference with these pols is, they didn't try to say they were prolife and use us to elect them.

If McKenna has been misrepresented, he knows the routine. All we have is MCFL, who has a history of contorting what people say to make proabortion pols "prolife" doing damage control and trowing people under the bus who are fed up with lying.

It is perfectly reasonable and sound to say, "Like everyone else, I have personal convictions.

See how easy it is?

Politicians better take their places and be honest about their convictions, and get savvy political people to help them navigate the waters.

There has been too much dishonesty to make people hunt for hours to crack their coded messages.

Thanks Jerry.

And I meant SCOTUS above, of course!

MassResistance just issued a clarification to their story on Jim McKenna. They are asking everyone to vote for him.

Please read... I hope this puts the issue to bed.

He is a good, honest man and will help us in our efforts. He will saves lives.

John,

I am at lunch but quiclky wanted to acnowwdge the campaign clarification. The Romneybots on McKenna's team did not do him any favors. The games have got to end.

I plan a post on this to clarify and will change my recommendation. This is a close race and I think with this clarification we should all get on the train.

Good for you for hanging in there. Thanks.

John said...

Thank You. And after the elction, we should all join together and clean house at the State GOP. They are an embarassment to true Republicans!

Onward we go...

Carol,

I saw someone has already posted MassResistance's retraction. It will be good to get it up top of the blog so the word will spread before tomorrow morning. I plan to vote McKenna, I desperately want to get rid of Martha and I don't see another way.

I just read MassResistance's clarification. It's enough for me to vote for McKenna.

I'm still bothered as to why it took him so long to straighten this out. The votes he loses because of this are his own fault. But I'll tell my friends I'm back for McKenna.

Jerry,

It said something about not wanting to make a campaign change and I wonder if he was just reluctant to get out in front of it too early because it would have caused internal chaos. The Romneybots have mud on their faces. Who knows.

It's a tough thing to get out there and say your staff made it up.
