Cardinal Come Home

The Charles Kurault of the episcopal conference has made a pit stop in his diocese for a few days to 'reach out to inactive local Catholics'. He's shocked, shocked I tell you, to learn the Dallas charter is a joke and the good old boy network had pedophiles in active ministry in Philadelphia.

I think we counted something like 8 days that the Cardinal was going to be present and accounted for in Boston from the end of January to May 1st. Naturally, we are delighted the Boston Globe was there to record one of the moments.

Here's one of the things he said:

At yesterday’s news conference, a reporter asked O’Malley about Catholics who feel alienated from the church because of disagreements over social issues, such as gay marriage.

O’Malley replied that if the church can “lead people to Christ’’ it makes it easier to discuss “the challenges and hard words of the Gospel,’’ but he said that “the Ten Commandments are not up for grabs.’’

He added: “We need to do a better job to explain what the church’s teachings are and how they are connected in the very consistent life ethic. But obviously we can’t have that opportunity if those people aren’t talking to us.’’

That's all true of course. But as he well knows, all of his appointees and administrators are unfaithful to Church teaching. The last thing they are going to do is teach it to people in the pews. His administration is teaching people who show up to reject Church teaching. Consequently, in the last three years, we have lost close to one hundred thousand Catholics who "came home".

Catholics are not 'home' until they're living their lives in a pursuit of a state of grace every day. To accomplish that fiat, transgressions against God have to be named so that people will recognize the things they're doing that disconnect them from God's grace. Then priests have to sit in the confessional a half hour before every Mass on the weekend so that those of us who are gone 12 hours a day working have the Sacrament available to us.

It's sad to watch the man say he wants to accomplish something and in practice lead all the parties into the abyss.

n.b. Parishioners of Holy Trinity are requesting prayers to stop the sale of the Church. Take a moment to look at the pictures - it's a tragedy to see this beautiful Church sold to pay for the corruption and ineptitude.

"Cardinal Sean" has plenty of feet washing between here and Philly.

His bland statements regarding fallen away Catholics are more of the same.

It is terrible to see Holy Trinity on the block.

This Jesuit Church (when the Society of Jesus was more than a hollowed out refuge for internal dissent) is one of the pearls of the Boston Archdiocese. It is not inconceivable that this holy Church could fall into the hands of an anti-Catholic group (who proliferate in the South End) and used for pagan rituals or worse.

When I saw him on Marin Bashir yesterday with the Catholics Come Home, I thought: you are kidding me, right?

Fr. Schroth SJ has written a book
enshrining the legacy of deceased pro-abort Fr. Drinan SJ. Joe, at Good Jesuit/Bad Jesuit, has a post up about an event at the law school where they honored Drinan and Schroth's book.

"Catholic Action League Executive Director C.J. Doyle stated: "Robert Drinan was a traitor to the faith of his baptism, a disgrace to the sons of Saint Ignatius, an obstinate and mendacious heretic, and an enemy of the unborn. Drinan, along with the late Senator Edward Kennedy, provided the cover, the example, and the rhetoric which empowered two generations of American Catholic political figures to defect from Catholic teaching on the sanctity and dignity of innocent human life."

People should voice their outrage. We know it falls on deaf ears here, in this world, but not in heaven.

I had no idea, when I started on my road to conversion, how hard being Catholic today would be. JP was right: "only heroic Catholics will survive"...

Maybe the Daughters of St. Paul should put a lien on Holy Trinity before anything else takes place.

The thought of what is planned for this Domus Dei (House of God) sickens me. Two religious orders (the FSSP and the ICRSS), have previously expressed interest in maintaining the property and the Cardinal has showed no interest. FYI, our struggle with Archdiocesan shenanigans is well documented and is part of the public record. It is a scandal unto itself. Rather than rehash, there has been much discussion in the Blogosphere since 2004.

A utilitarian understanding of "Worship Space" seems to have been prevailed upon at least two generations of Catholics in Boston, reducing Sacred Architecture and the Theology of the Domus Dei to a managed asset. This has paved the way to massive church suppressions in Boston with little or no outcry from Clergy or Laity alike. Does anyone question the secular model of Church, currently peddled by the corporate wizards at the Chancery (sic. Pastoral Center)?

One only has to go as far as the Parable of the Lost Sheep [Matthew 18:12-14]. Christ flies in the face of a secular corporate model of Catholic action. It is not the nature of Sacred Space to be bought and sold as some functional liability. It is to be passed (tradere) to future generations of Catholics and unbelievers alike. Physical manifestations of the Faith through Sacred Architecture are quickly receding from the landscape.

How quickly we forget they too are signifcant tools for a New Evangelization. I'm afraid an impoverished understanding of Domus Dei prevails even among "orthodox" and "conservative" young Catholics, perhaps through no fault of their own. This lack of understanding (and formation) provides cover and justification to a Hierarchy that has suppressed nearly 70 Parishes in Greater Boston. Boston truly should be considered Mission territory.

...and this happens at a time when Pope Benedict most wants to recover Catholic identity. HELLO!!!

Jack O'Malley said...

Rob,

It sickens me too.

But Pope Benedict will recover Catholic identity when he public and frequently celebrates the True Mass. He has never done so. He has relied on words not deeds.

I spurn the crumbs of a motu proprio sandwich from the papal table. I'd become a Methodist before that. (nota bene - I have no intention of becoming a bloody Wesleyan.)

I had great hope for Ratzinger following the buffoon pope Wojtyła but I have been very disappointed. Nevertheless, I persist in abject fealty to the Holy See (I don't want to be burned at the stack by Cadillac Deval's executive order at O'Malley's behest) and so I will be present at Assisi III with a pyx of sacred cow dung to adorn the altar of St. Francis. Vishnu laudetur.

And as for "cardinal come home", what sullied "prince" of the Church had a hand in putting forth O'Malley's name? Why, Bernard "arch-facilitator of boy-boinkers" Law who sits on the sanhedrin of bishop-boosters of course. The bejeweled and bejowled Bernard Law, ensconced in a papal palace with a bounteous emolument for preaching to the sparse Roman mob and the occasional sycophantic Boston tourist in middle-American accented Italian. Bernardino Pulcinella.

Let the lot of 'em go to buggery. No travel required. They're there already.

What a loathsome farce the institutional Roman Catholic Church has made of itself. And Boston is centre stage.

Good grief -- my typos abound:

"publicly" for "public"; "stake" for "stack"

At least I got "sycophantic" right. I think.

That last was meself, Jack O'Malley.

Oh, my gosh, Jack O'Malley, I don't know who you are, but I think I love you. Am I ever laughing OUT LOUD!!! Boy boinkers, indeed. I was so lost in sin for so many decades, prior to my, ahem, return to the one true Faith, that I had absolutely no idea how infested the Church truly was. I spend days reading about it, the boy boinkers. Still, I think I am living in a dream...I say, no, this can't be true. Was Cardinal O'Malley REALLY on TV on ASH WEDNESDAY telling us to "come home". Miserere nobis...

Rosemary - I love that idea!

Maria - between Jack, LCIB and Jerry, it can get quite entertaining around TTC!

I just looked at the pictures.

Satan is the only one who could ever be behind something like this - the selling of such a beautiful Church.

The Church is exquisite. They could never build something like that today. I don't even think that there are artisans around who could do that work anyway.

Thank you, Vatican II! Job well done. You don't have long to go until there is nothing more left to destroy.

As an aside, I see this is in the South End section. Did the social engineers ever manage to destroy the neighborhood completely?

Veronica: re comments on Drinan. Isn't this great? That is the thing about the truth. It ia always so clear. lol.

Carol: Having a fine time and I thank you.

You know, I am still learning about my faith but isn't seliing a Church sort of like, well, simony?

The history of the Church itself ( I think I have this right) seems to tell the histoy of "the Church".

"The Jesuits departed in August of 1961, and with the departure of their beloved Jesuits, many parishioners gave up on Holy Trinity.

On September 1, 1961, Rev. Robert L. Ryer became the first secular administrator (1961-66) and pastor (1966-67) of Holy Trinity (German) Church in 100 years. During his tenure, the parish schools, orphanage and home for the elderly were all finally phased out. BY 1966, ONLY THE CHURCH AND RECTORY REMAINED".

The Church is listed as "gay friendly". It seems somehow symbolic of the Society of Jesus, doesn't it? Bad fruit. See the damage done. Kyrie Eleison.

They couldn't relocate the Church. There is a recent history of preserving churches, in this way.
