The National Catholic Register ran a few sympathy for the devil articles yesterday that leave me a little perplexed about where EWTN is going with their newly-acquired publication.
I was actually shocked to read this doozy, called "The Shocking Truth God Loves Osama Bin Laden Too".
God loves murderers as much as he loves the rest of us, even as much as he loves the people whom they hurt. What does that say about our God? What does it mean for us, given that we are called to love as God loves?!
This most difficult of truths has come to mind again as I see Osama bin Laden’s image splashed all over the media, and hear the reports that he is now dead. God loves that man as much as he loved Mother Teresa? God loves that man as much as he loves the people on Flight 93? As much as he loves each of the other victims of 9/11? As much as he loves me? It’s true.
Saints preserve us!
Am I reading this right? Does this say that Mother Teresa and Osama Bin Laden are equitable recipients of God's love?
Dogs, sorcerers, unchaste, murderers, and servers of idols, and every one that loveth and maketh a lie are not to be left, as Scripture dictates, outside of the Kingdom?
The past few weeks of reading over there would leave one of the opinion that while God loves Bin Laden, it's Michael Voris who is on the highway to hell.
What madness.

Did He not love the other eleven, or does this tell you that even among his most cherished faithful servants God does not love equally? Where do you suppose this put's Bin Laden, Hitler, David Duke?
Osama spent his life hunting Christ and His followers to annihilate them. Does that ring an identity bell with anyone who has read Scripture? Neutralizing the enmity which Scripture explains is Divinely placed is not something I would expect to read at a publication belonging to Mother Angelica. Is there an editor there that reviews the theological content or has the thing become a loose cannon?
There isn't a shred of evidence Bin Laden repented of his life's work of lying and murdering Christ. Can somebody please tell this teeny tiny blogger what the National Catholic Register is doing by suggesting Osama Bin Laden's life may have earned him a reward in Paradise?

The last paragraph or two of the Bible enumerates the public unrepented sin that leaves us outside of Christ's Church. You cannot simultaneously claim you leave judgments to God when you are out in the public square trying to trump those judgments.

Praying for souls, even the most hardened sinner is the duty of every Catholic. Mucking the theology of salvation along with it, is its antithesis.

Bill O'Reilly had a "Father Beck" as a guest on his show last night. The cleric denounced the "celebrations" surrounding the death of OBL.
Afterwards, Bernard Goldberg appeared and rightly castigated the cleric and characterized his posturing as liberal and not "Catholic". Goldberg deplored the priest's moral equivalence of Hamas celebrating atrocities against Israel with the celebrations of OBL's death.
Father Beck's concern for OBL's soul would be better served by praying for him instead of posturing as an "enlightened" Leftist.
Carol, I prayed for bin Laden's death. I thank and praise God for it. I thank and praise Him for the deaths of Saddam, his evil sons and Arafat. I continue to pray for the deaths of the leaders of Iran, Syria, Sudan, Saudi Arabia, the Palestinian Authority and various Muslim terrorist groups.
You know why? Because we can be reasonably certain that such men will *not* repent. Indeed, they believe murdering the innocent is an act of God, so for them, repentance would be the ultimate apostacy!
In such circumstances, we must stand with the innocent and the vulnerable.
I also pray for the conversion of Muslims to Christ. I wonder why the Father Becks and their accolytes at the National Catholic Register (let alone the National Catholic Reporter) don't advocate as much?
Sadly, I think Goldberg is wrong about Beck's sentiments not being "Catholic." They are very much Catholic to those who define the faith. They are also satanic....just another sign that this Church is ripe for divine judgement.
I think what Fr Beck was trying to say was what the "official" Vatican statement was VATICAN CITY, May 2 - The Vatican says it does not rejoice in the death of Osama bin Laden.
"Faced with the death of a man, a Christian never rejoices, but reflects on the serious responsibility of each and every one of us before God and before man, and hopes and commits himself so that no event is an opportunity for further growth of hatred, but for peace," spokesman Father Federico Lombardi, S.J. said on May 2.

Ham, the fact that you can overlook all of the prayers of mercy for sinners on this blog is a sad commentary about you and your faith.
There are plenty of witnesses to the conversion of the sinner. Bin Laden is not one of them. If you don't want to hear that message, use St. Paul or others as your example and leave the judging of Bin Laden's treachery and murder to God.
Bin Laden was planning to return on September 11th of this year to kill more of us. We are not rejoicing that the man is dead, though nobody sane is sorry. We are elated because lives will be saved and captives freed from their bondage.
If your animus was about sitting in Church and praying for the conversion of sinners, you wouldn't rush home to comments boxes of blogs to make false charges against fellow Catholics.

I find your use of the terms "ham" and "jihad" to be culturally insensitive.
You may exalt in your dhimmitude, however there are still noble souls in this world who reject your moral surrender.

Uncle Ham, let me ask you ask you a couple of things:
1. Did Moses demand that Pharaoh repent and worship Yahweh? Or did God "harden his heart"?
2. Did Jesus encourage Herod to seek the truth? Or did He stand silent before him as His legitimate judgement?
3. Did Jesus after His Resurrection ever ask His disciples to pray for Judas' soul, or Pilate's, or Herod's (the latter two certainly being alive)?
As far as the "CM Movement" goes, Carol McKinley is far more of a Christian than most Catholics ever will be, certainly far more than the moral idiots who insist on praying for bin Laden's soul or who equate Christianity with Islam.
