He alleges that his accuser committed libel and that a letter she wrote to his religious superiors contained "numerous false, malicious and unprivileged statements" about the priest. He is suing for punitive and unspecified compensatory damages.
In the lawsuit, Corapi said the success of his ministry depends on his reputation and his position of a priest in good standing.
Corapi was a well-liked priest who drew standing-room only crowds when he spoke.
All glory to God.
I am not making a judgment on the merits of the case, but I am presuming his innocence. It is, after all, what just and righteous people do.
When speaking to falsely accused priests, one of the stumbling blocks to putting the case before a judge is that judges are reluctant (this is an understatement) to interfere in internal Church business.
I do think I see where he's going. This removes the stumbling block and is a huge can of whopass to the system of taking our priests out of commission without meeting the threshold of 'credible', without due process and canonical, civil and constitutional rights for priests.

couldn't resist
LOL. I enjoyed that!
How's the exercise going?
I could not agree w/ you more, Carol. It is just possible that he he will clear his name. I think it is also conceivable he could return to his priesthood. People keep forgetting that it was the head of his order who advised him to file the defamation suit. This in itself speaks volumes about the the accuser, does it not? The bottom line is the he should be afforded our charity and kindness, irrespective of the status of his case. He has received only jeers and people mocking him...
thanks for asking Carol-well! I am reassured by my sore muscles that I am going about it right. :)
I appreciate your Corapi posts-not only because you and I apparently think somewhat alike, (you being highly more informed than I), but also because I don't think I am completely crazy in my thinking.
Yeah, that was supposed to be a compliment...
"The bottom line is the he should be afforded our charity and kindness, irrespective of the status of his case. He has received only jeers and people mocking him..."
Maria, you've got that right. Since 2002, I cannot think of any priest or prelate who has received more jeers and mockery than Fr. Corapi - even the ones that have been proven guilty. And this leads me to believe that there is something else behind this.
Veronica
I am going to continue to take the liberty of deleting posts with asinine assertion that taking the accusation to a real court where evidence will be presented, examined and processed through discovery, evidence and civil law - where we can all look at it - is some kind of code we all have to crack that something sinister is going on.
There are plenty of places that will host this sick and sad dialogue. The well will not be poisoned with that chicanery here at the TTC.
Good day to you.
What about presuming the innocence of the accuser?
Look dear, I don't know what country you are from, but putting a man on trail on the presumption the accuser is innocent is called tyranny. No other country does it outright. They at least have some kind of a kangaroo court system where they pretend the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
Though the despicable conduct of some Catholics in blogosphere would have you thinking otherwise, just people don't slander the accused with absurd conspiracy theories and then claim it is the accuser who should have the presumption of innocence. Their conduct is reprehensible and a disgrace to Our Lord and His Church.
Can I get an Amen?
Amen sister!
Yeah. That wicked Catholic blogosphere.
You want corruption?
