A Doozy from the National Catholic Reporter

Oh, the injustice.   Egregious assertions. Anatomy is a barrier. Excommunications.  Laicization.  Dismissal. Absurd limits say the majority of the faithful. It just "can't be allowed to stand"!

The Bourgeois castration sure has them all fired up.

Here's the kookiest part:

Blessed John Henry Newman said that there are three magisteria in the church: the bishops, the theologians and the people.
You know something is wrong with that urban legend. If we were nitwits and took this on face value, it's almost as if they're saying the contributions of the now laicized and excommunicated Roy Bourgeois, Richard McBrien and Joan Chittister are just as important as 2000 years of Popes. I couldn't find any source at all linking it to Blessed JHN but even if he did say it, there's no doubt in my mind that he was speaking about 'theologians' and 'people' who are doctors of the Church and Saints. They've polled people at the National Catholic Reporter to get a sense of the infidels and they have a message:
Our message is that we believe the sensus fidelium is that the exclusion of women from the priesthood has no strong basis in Scripture or any other compelling rationale; therefore, women should be ordained. We have heard the faithful assent to this in countless conversations in parish halls, lecture halls and family gatherings. It has been studied and prayed over individually and in groups. The brave witness of the Women's Ordination Conference, as one example, gives us assurance that the faithful have come to this conclusion after prayerful consideration and study -- yes, even study of Ordinatio Sacerdotalis.
Studying Ordinatio Sacerdotalis is a spectacular idea. Oh wait...They don't mean they should study it? Popes have been studying it for 2000 years. Here's the bottom line: The Pope stated that “in some places” the possibility of ordaining women to the priesthood was “considered still open to debate.” Nevertheless, “in order that all doubt may be removed regarding a matter of great importance,” the Pope stated unequivocally, “I declare that the Church has no authority whatsoever to confer priestly ordination on women and that this judgment is to be definitively held by all the Church’s faithful.”

The end.

Carol, William Oddie, an orthodox Brit and eminent Catholic scholar, debunks NCR's deconstruction of Blessed John Henry Newman (link below quote).

His money quote from Newman gives the lie to these intellectually bankrupt dissenters:“The pope,” said Newman “has for centuries upon centuries had and used that authority, which the Definition [of infallibility] now declares ever to have belonged to him … It may be objected that a representation such as this, is negatived by the universal [anti-papal] sentiment, which testifies to the formidable effectiveness of the Vatican decrees, and to the Pope’s intention that they should be effective; that it is the boast of some Catholics and the reproach levelled against us by all Protestants, that the Catholic Church has now become beyond mistake a despotic aggressive Papacy, in which freedom of thought and action is utterly extinguished. But I do not allow that this alleged unanimous testimony exists… I say there is only one Oracle of God, the Holy Catholic Church and the Pope as her head. To her teaching I have ever desired all my thoughts, all my words to be conformed; to her judgment I submit what I have now written, what I have ever written, not only as regards its truth, but as to its prudence, its suitableness, and its expedience. (Letter to the Duke of Norfolk, 10)”

An excellent, scholarly analysis of Newman's thinking concerning the role of the laity can be found at the link below. The opportunistic catholyc Left is not concerned with the nuances of Newman's thought. Their ideological madness demands that Newman must be twisted into a polemical weapon.

Carol, How about asking people to petition the chancery to remove the National Catholic Reporter from their parishes. I know parishes that subscribe. Others have links to the rag on their parish website. While I realize that the chancery will likely do nothing, still, as BCI notes, people in Rome are noticing what's going in in Boston when the scandals are discussed online. What do you think?

Good idea, Anonymous. Let's have a good old fashioned book burning, too. And, maybe we can burn some infidels at the same time. Just because you don't like NCR doesn't mean it should be banned. You can be as small-minded as you like, but don't try to make rules for all the faithful.

Ahhhh...it's our old buddy 'Anonymous' again....the guy (or gal) who puts the ass in jackass.

...and while we're at it, Anonym-ass, why don't we put some Hustlers next to the NCR in the back of the churches too...they're on the same level of obscenity; however, the fact that they aren't already there is probably a clear sign of censorship to you.

Good suggestion "M"...don't let the troll discourage you.

Yeah M, just because the National Catholic Reporter leads Catholics to simulate sacraments and be clapping fornicators, why shouldn't the priests put a stack of them at the back of the Church, right between the free condoms and ouija boards?

LOL.

Seriously, the National Catholic Reporter used to be in a lot of parishes but over the last ten years have gradually disappeared. I haven't seen one in a parish for at least five years -- and I travel quite a bit for Mass. (When practicing Catholics found them, they would go to the parish, remove the stack from the Church, take them for a ride and dump them in the trash off-site).

Of course, I do not expose the reservation of the Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity of Christ in my soul to the handful of parishes being operated by a wolf (Unni, Fleming, Garrity, etc.).

There is absolutely no doubt that publishing the dissent on the internet, and the requests to the boys in the Chancery to intervene, is effective. If you know of a parish, please publish it here. I'll call the parish to verify and if true, I'll take up the cause.

Hey Carol, Pastor's website at Holy Family in Concord and the website at St. Julia's in Weston link to NCR. Don't have more time/inclination to check out the actual churches. I'd expect more of the usual suspects to be doing the same old. BTW, I googled Fr. Cuenin (whose been flying the rainbow flag over at the Brandeis chapel-- it was in the student paper) and found out he left Brandeis for the Mayo Clinic in October for cancer treatment. Don't know the current status.

M, I am a little surprised by St. Julia's in Weston. I'll go through the customary protocol during Advent on these two and if we can't make progress, scorch the earth after the New Year.

I do not regret that Walter is out of commission. The man divested thousands of souls of their salvation and every day he is given a pulpit and ministry, more are consumed. I look forward to the day when every member of the lavender mafia is decommissioned. Still, it pains me to know that matters of the souls of our priests are on board a the rudderless chancery. Chances are, he will die in that state.
