Does the Pope believe his role is about saving his people from the effects of dirty energy?
This is quite a statement from the Secretary of State:
"When the future of the planet is at stake, there are no political frontiers, barriers or walls behind which we can hide to protect ourselves from the effects of environmental and social degradation," Parolin's message said.
If I am following the Holy Father's logic, he believes the visions in the Book of Revelation are not about the tragic effects of mortal sin, but about prosperity and littering.
Sodom and Gommorah was destroyed by the failure to protect themselves from, you know, dirty energy. The immorality and sodomy had nothing to do with it.
One should appoint heretics who encourage sodomy and then focus on saving the world from smog.
I keep watching the history of Pope Francis appointee Rev. Timothy Radcliffe. He has taught that gay sex 'expresses Christ's self gift".
This appointment is simply outrageous.
Pope: Denying climate change is dereliction of duty.
Practicing Catholics: Denying heresy is a dereliction of duty.

Very well said Carol. Yes, who cares about mortal sin when littering and prosperity are the real problems. How could anyone be more politically correct than our dear Pope. Indeed, sin is so passe'; nearly no one recognizes it any more. Wonder why Pope Francis? Please clue us in.

In reading today about St. Crispin of Viterbo, this quote stood out to me and seemed appropos here:
Henri de Lubac, S.J., once wrote, "We should have a great love for our age, but make no concessions to the spirit of the age, so that in us the Christian mystery may never lose its sap" (The Splendor of the Church, p. 183).
When are we going to get back to the 'SALVATION of SOULS' ?
When is eternity going to be more important than the temporal ?
When is the Pope going to insist that all the literate read Sacred Scripture and the CCC,
and require it in all Seminaries ?
I quickly read this link.
Invincible ignorance and Baptism by Desire is Church teaching. We don't have to know of a case where it applies to affirm these concepts are examples of where Christ's mercy applies.
In fact, "knowing" where these teaching would be applicable implies we are privy to the exchange of a soul with Christ on a particular day of judgment.
We can make general statements that a person in a wiles of Africa, a person mentally incompetent or other circumstances -- these teachings would appear to be applicable.
We can also make a general statement that a person who has been catechized but uses free will to reject or abandon Truth or Christ's Church -- and subsequently the effects of mortal sin dim their intellect and judgment -- these teachings would not appear to be applicable.
It is my theory that sin makes folks stupid. They suffer from impaired judgement and weak will. Many of these folks actually believe the climate change nonsense, while other 'warmers' sense an opportunity for control. Perhaps Pope Francis will become known as 'Francis the 'Warmer', sort of fitting for where he seems to be headed. More prayer for Pope Francis, please.
