"I believe in robbing banks in cases when there is no food in the refrigerator."

Many Catholics were surprised to learn that Catholic Jeb Bush joined the chorus of politicians who 'believe in abortion in cases of rape or incest'.

Let us face it: The likelihood that a bishop or priest has explained Humanae Vitae and Evangelicum Vitae to Jeb or any other politician is slim. A bishop would not want to jeopardize his invites to parades and hoity-toity political events. But politicians have very well-catechized Catholic advisers who carefully explain what and why Catholic Church teaching is what it is.

As a woman, I am appalled and frustrated when I hear a Catholic politician (one like Jeb with a good heart) take the position that they believe in killing a baby in certain circumstances. There isn't a dime's worth of difference if we heard him say he believes in robbing banks in cases when there is no food in the refrigerator.

How could he possibly believe that such an egregious crime against God and human life is justifiable?

Would he have the chutzpah to dare to say "I believe in killing the elderly in cases where they impose a burden upon the family"?

To lay the burden and consequences of murdering a child upon the victim of rape is beneath contempt.

It is political expedience and exploitation of women - of the worst possible kind.
