As a Catholic woman she takes reproductive health seriously and she is terrified that Daddy's legacy of civil rights are being rolled back. Her daughters and everyone's daughters can't screw around with irresponsible men because they don't have 10 dollars to purchase their own abortifacients.

She doesn't even have the decency to speak openly and honestly about ripping children apart until they are dead.    Incredulously, she uses the word 'reproduction'.

Let me tell you something else.

The urban legends around Daddy's legacy are greatly exaggerated. To the best of my knowledge, the man never said anything about subsidizing the sex lives of immoral women or murdering children as a civil right.  Not one word.

How on earth could her Bishop not immediately and emergently schedule a 'dinner' and let her know the peril she is in and is leading others into?  Try to persuade her to confession.  If she refuses, explain to her that she should not present herself to Communion.  Because she is NOT in communion.   Tell her if she ever uses the Crucifix to sell immorality and murder as the manifesto of the Catholic Church, he will publicly excommunicate her and correct her misguidance and scandal.

The misfeasance and malfeasance of the shepherds is profoundly disturbing.

Is Marco Rubio a Devout Roman Catholic?

I didn't pick up the story earlier this month when the story broke that Marco Rubio, who describes himself as a 'devout' Catholic who sometimes goes to Mass and other times goes to a "non-denominational" (?) Baptist Church.

If Mark Rubio was hired by the Archdiocese to run the Chancery, I would have been all over this story but on reflection, I hoped and prayed a good priest or Bishop would reach out to Marco and see if they could catch him in the net and bring him back to the Sacraments.

I went through a period in my early 20s and then again in my 30s when I was hanging by a thread to the Catholic Church.  I actually even visited a few other Christian churches (thankfully those experiences left me empty).

 Devout Catholic isn't a word I'd use for that period of my life.

If Rubio is courting the religious right by misrepresenting his faith, running around like John Kerry or Ted Kennedy does when they exploit Catholics, I missed it.   It would be dumb to tarnish his credibility with this kind of foolishness because his political convictions stand on their own merits.  I don't think the guy would have a problem picking up the Catholic vote, so I chalked it up to some kind of misunderstanding.   This story just didn't sit right with me     Does Eric Guinta vote for or against people on account of their religion?  Does he think Catholics are only endorsing Catholics or we're going to jump the ship of a politician because he's not going to Mass?

We pray for him, we may encourage priests we know in the area to reach out, but we vote for people because of their political convictions.

The New York Times picked up the controversy today.

Frankly, the where Rubio is worshipping has the stink of an agenda on it though I can't quite put my finger on what it is.  (The Romneybots?)

Sorcery at Your Local Boston Parish

People unfamiliar with Boston will sometimes ask for an example of something egregious going on in Boston while the actual people in control of the Archdiocese have the Cardinal off learning how to quack.

Here's an example.

At St. Joseph's in Belmont, parishioners grieving over the death of a loved one are being treated to some dame named Maureen Hancock who is spiritual exploiting them by 'channeling' their dead relatives and performing pagan rituals like "reiki" to "heal" them:

Longtime readers know that I am a believer in the mystical and in fact have had mystical experiences myself.  I didn't have people talking to me, but in a period when I was deeply immersed in daily prayer four or five hours a day, in front of the Blessed Sacrament, daily Mass and practicing mystical prayer - I in fact had several mystical experiences.

I won't bore you with tough road in finding a priest who knew how to handle it but handle it we did.

For amateurs, there is no way to tell whether what you are seeing is angelic or demonic.  (Even people like Padre Pio had no way of knowing at times.)

If you come across a mystic, there is are clues about whether the person's  gifts are fruits of the Holy Spirit.

We do have legitimate mystics in the Boston Catholic community - several priests and at least one lay person, Frank Kelly (whom I will post about on another day).

In terms of claiming one is a mystic,  anyone claiming to be channeling your dead relatives and/or you look at their other 'services' and they are performing 'reiki', it is a no brainer.    There is spiritual danger.

What's wrong with reiki?

Reiki is actually the laying on of hands to deliver to you the spiritual forces that come from the 'reiki god'.  It is the antithesis of the spiritual forces delivered to Catholics by the Sacraments, the spiritual forces that come from the 'other' God, our Triune God.  Somebody who delivers the forces of the reiki god is called a Reiki Master.

It has actually been formally condemned by even by the USCCB.

About 2 million Americans have used Reiki, according to a 2002 survey by the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine. Practitioners believe that a salutary life energy flows through the body and fosters well-being, the center said. The energy is often transmitted through experienced Reiki practitioners who lightly touch or place their hands above the patient's body.

But the bishops said "Reiki lacks scientific credibility" and "has not been accepted by the scientific and medical communities as an effective therapy."

The Japanese practice differs from Christian faith healing because "the healing power is at human disposal," the bishops said. In contrast, "for Christians the access to divine healing is by prayer to Christ as Lord and Savior."

Moreover, practicing Reiki puts Catholics' spiritual health in danger, the bishops said, by corrupting worship of God and turning religious devotion "in a false direction."

   I can't begin to tell how how outraged Catholics are that see our brothers and sisters who are grieving their dead being exploited instead of being pastorally cared for, healed through prayer and the Sacraments.

Letting go, surrendering back to God somebody whom we love is a very, very hard thing to do.   Probably the hardest thing any of us have to do.   It is the biggest challenge to our faith.  It needs the support of a good priest and a caring spiritual community and friends, relatives.

Aside from being hijacked away from authentic healing, what is wrong with someone claiming to be channeling the dead?

It is divination and condemned by the Catholic Church.

"All forms of divination are to be rejected: recourse to Satan or demons, conjuring up the dead or other practices falsely supposed to ‘unveil’ the future. Consulting horoscopes, astrology, palm readings, interpretation of omens and lots, the phenomena of clairvoyance, and recourse to mediums all conceal a desire for power over time, history, and, in the last analysis, other human beings, as well as a wish to conciliate hidden powers. They contradict the honor, respect, and loving fear that we owe to God alone" (No.2116),

There are mothers and fathers, daughters and sons, aunts and uncles, grandparents, best friends, even beloved dogs. Everyone's here. You might call it a family reunion, only many of the members aren't actually in the room. They're dead.

There is a little bit of truth to this but it is being used to exploit people.


We are indeed in communion with the dead.  Dead dogs? No.  Dead dogs are not part of our spiritual communion.  All in Heaven, purgatory and the angelic are all present.  


If this woman is hearing voices, they are not being channeled through or by the spiritual institution   that belongs to Christ.  nothing angelic would defy what the deposit of faith has condemned.  It is impossible.


By the way, before this gig, Hancock was a stand up comic.  

That's where Hancock comes in. A former stand-up comic and paralegal, she now devotes her time to what is literally her calling: She hears voices from beyond who want to connect with their loved ones through her. She's an "overseas operator," a "comedian medium," as she puts it, injecting humor into her sessions to keep them from becoming wakes.

She'll do a decent Whoopi Goldberg-as-medium imitation from "Ghost." She'll call your dearly departed "Gimpy" if that's what she hears. She'll dance with members of the audience when she's channeling a "hot ticket" or take on the personality of the dead one. If a funny husband pops up, she'll tell the widow that he "just pinched my rear." She once asked a startled man how his "plumbing" was and then told him that his (dead) mother was asking about his colonoscopy. The room erupted....Those in the audience have paid $60 apiece for the chance to hear something, anything, from their loved ones.

Crude and vulgar arenot the signs a mystic is operating in the spirit of God.

Keeping people who are practicing the occult as the road to healing far away from your flock is a pretty basic duty of a priest. And, when the priest is a lost soul, the duty falls to the Bishop.

The Bishops here under the Cardinal are being held back by the Cardinal.

There is a man at the top and that man is the Cardinal.  Some of the auxiliary Bishops are being prevented and forbidden from acting on the errors and scandals and, in this case - the occult.

  In other cases, they couldn't care less what happens to the people, they are reserving what is holy unto themselves.

This is precisely what is broken in the system and what the Boston Catholic Blogger Community is working on "fixing".

Pelosi Should be Excommunicated Tommorow

St. Joseph whichamacallit... Pelosi tells us, today is particularly significant to ItaloAmericans because it's a day to pray to St. Joseph to benefit the workers of America and this is exactly what "our healthcare bill will do".


If you're going to hijack the Solemnity of St. Joseph to sell the government's slaughter of the holy innocents and sell your country into the slavery of sin, have the decency to get the feast right.

Even Herod didn't go this far.

As if these things were not scandalous enough to the faithful, she then goes on to cite her pleasure that every order of Catholic nuns who want this "life affirming legislation" to pass. As Fr. Pavone said, this does not represent 59,000 nuns, it represents approximately 59 nuns who signed it.

Pelosi deliberately misused St. Joseph and the Catholic religion to mislead the country.

If the Bishops gave a rat's ass about what will happen to this country, the people, the Church, the babies, the souls of the faithful, they would stand up in the public square and excommunicate Pelosi tomorrow.

They have the power and the duty to stop Pelosi from disabusing the Catholic religion to bring the culture of death into full bloom.

This is the moment.

But the actual feast of St. Joseph the Worker (same man, two ways of commemorating him) comes in six weeks. Set for May 1, it was introduced by Pope Pius XII in 1955 to counteract May Day, the high holiday for communist and socialist workers.

Maybe the House Speaker made an honest mistake but her transposing the two saints days already has the Catholic groups and blogs fuming.

That slip is no coinkydink. God truly has a sense of humor.

When You Eat My Body and Drink My Blood - you shall contract H1N1

The Boston Globe started the day with headlines about the "jarring" and radical changes to the Catholic Liturgy to prepare for the mythical H1N1.

The Rev. Jonathan Gaspar, co director of the Boston Archdiocese’s Office of Worship and Spiritual Life, acknowledged in an interview that the measures are “going to be jarring at first’’ for the nearly 300,000 Catholics who attend weekly services and are accustomed to the rituals.

Has anybody know of anybody in the nation who is sick and who can present laboratory results that say they have H1N1?

The internet is a big place. Nobody I know can find anybody who has it or even knows of anybody who knows somebody else who has it.

The Blood of Christ is contained within the Eucharist. Every Grace and gift is complete within the Eucharist and so there is no jarring change there.

No shaking hands or hugging at Mass... is...jarring?

The article drove the detractors of the Catholic Church to thrash about in the comments section.

Personally, I agree wholeheartedly with this comment:

'Why is this front page news? I mean, seriously, who cares?"

The reason the Globe writes a disproportionate number of articles on the Catholic Church relative to other religions can be found in the number of comments regarding this silly article. It is a non-story but the Globe folks know that any story on the Church will bring out the haters in force which will drive key metrics for Boston.com such as the number of visitors, number of comments, time on site per visit and page views all of which can drive advertising rates.

While the Globe clearly hates the church for its positions on gay marriage and abortion and keeps a full time anti-Catholic op-ed writer on staff, the decision to run this story is simply an economic one.

I absolutely LOVE the faith of the Greek Orthodox hierarch:

The local Greek Orthodox diocese has taken a different approach, arguing disease cannot be spread via Communion.

“The Church has always been clear in its belief that diseases are not transmitted from the Holy Chalice, which we believe contains the very body and blood of our Savior,’’ Metropolitan Methodios, the presiding hierarch of the Greek Orthodox Diocese of Massachusetts, said in a statement. He urged sick people to stay home but also said worshipers should “not panic, but carry on with their usual activities, including going to church and receiving Holy Communion.’’

I left a message for Fr. Convertino of St. Anthony's Shrine today. Getting in touch with anybody there is quite the process. I'll keep you updated on the happenings there.

In the meantime, a reader sent the below info that affirms that it is the Bishop, not Fr. Convertino or any other sacrilegious loose cannon with authority over changes for the bubonic plague we are not seeing.

Q: What is the bishop's authority when it comes to a pandemic such as the H1N1 virus? Our local bishop has not only removed the sign of peace at Mass in order to avoid handshakes, forbade the reception of the Eucharist on the tongue, removed the possibility for the faithful to receive the blood of Christ, and emptied the blessed water in all the churches of our diocese, but he has officially asked all parishioners to not attend Mass on Sunday if they have a cough. I find this measure a little extreme when our town has not yet had any real case of this virus and our province has had very few cases as a total. Is a cough really an excuse to not attend Sunday Mass? -- M.J., Province of Alberta

A: There are really two questions involved. One regards the extent of the bishop's authority when it comes to responding to a pandemic, the other regarding a particular prudential judgment by a bishop.

With respect to the first question, all of the measures mentioned by our correspondent would fall under the bishop's general overall authority to regulate the liturgy and to dispense from disciplinary laws in particular cases. It is understood that most of these are temporary measures. The bishop would have the authority to permanently regulate some of these elements such as the gesture for the sign of peace and the availability of Communion under both species as the law already places the regulation of these elements under his authority.

Others, such as the prohibition against receiving Communion on the tongue, can be enacted as an emergency measure by the bishop but could not be made permanent or general without an indult from the Holy See.

The practices outlined by the bishop in this case are basically preventive measures that seek to avoid the spread of a possible pandemic and reduce the risk of infection.

In more serious cases, such as being in the midst of an actual pandemic, the bishop could even take more drastic action. Thus during the initial outbreak of this flu, when the malady was still poorly understood, the cardinal archbishop of Mexico City even went so far as to cancel all public Masses for a couple of weeks until the danger subsided.

With respect to the second question, I believe it is necessary to defer to the bishop's prudential judgment in reaching a decision. Since most bishops are not doctors of medicine they would usually consult with experts and with public health authorities regarding appropriate actions to take in the face on an objective risk. We have to suppose that your bishop took these steps and made his decision in the light of informed advice.

For example, in normal circumstances a mild cough would not necessarily excuse an otherwise healthy person from attending Sunday Mass. If, however, the person was as yet unaware as to the cause of the symptom (be it the common cold, regular seasonal flu or this new strain), he should prudently not expose himself and others to risk until the issue has been duly clarified.

The People Ted Kennedy Left Behind

I opened up the Globe today to read that mob boss, gigolo, conman and murderer Jerry Angiulo is dead at 90.

When I read his obit in the Globe, I couldn't help thinking about the Tom Foolery in the coverage of Kennedy's death in Catholic blogosphere. I realize people had mixed emotions and thoughts about Kennedy's death, but I was somewhat fascinated by the inability to process those thoughts and emotions and articulate something honest and substantive.

Can you imagine hearing Catholic rightly formed in the faith saying things like God Bless Jerry Angiulo, let us be charitable, this is not the time to speak of his legacy on earth?

Come on kiddies, we can do better than this.

Angiulo, of course, was a ruthless killer and it really isn't a fair or accurate comparison. Kennedy was a kind, compassionate man who loved Christ who was grossly misled - by commission and omission - by the Jesuits, priests and Bishops of the American Catholic Church - the "Vatican II" and Woodstock moonbats.

But, the victims of abortion are not any less dead than Angiulo's, are they? Catholics and those of good will fighting to stop the legal atrocities to the unborn realize the impact to the victims, to Kennedy himself, the multitudes who followed the it's okay to have personal beliefs and cry out for mercy on your death bed while the people who bought into your ideas continue on the path to perdition - and we're heartsick. We had every duty to make sure the actions of the Catholic priests in the aftermath of their incompetence as shepherds doesn't further entrench the uncatechized on that path.

Like Christ crying out to the Father, interceding for those nailing Him to the Cross, I want to scream "Forgive them Father, for they know not what they do". The Kennedy family has been spiritually abused. As far as I'm concerned, it's the priests and Bishops responsible for the chaos. That's where the feet have to be held to the fire.

I waited several days before posting about the situation because I wanted to see what the spiritual circumstances were surrounding Kennedy's passing. The letter Obama carried to the Pope was a clear signal several weeks ago, accounts emerged that he surrounded himself with prayer and the Sacraments. His heartfelt letter to the Pope confirmed the state of his mind and soul. I don't have any delusions that Ted was given the same treatment at the pearly gates as Pope John Paul II. Like most of us, I imagine he'll be making a pitstop into purgatory. As a trench warrior, there's nothing more delicious than to see an adversary stop the rebellion and surrender fully to Christ. We can (and should) celebrate and rejoice in that victory. For me, Ted Kennedy's story is a story about redemption and salvation - and the Rite of Christian Burial was a joyous occasion. Yes, the intercessions went awry. The Cardinal sitting there, appearing to give credibility to the Catholic Church harboring hatred for homosexuals underscores the absurdity and we have work cut out for us.

Even though we rejoice at Ted's victory, we all have grave concerns about those misled by his ideology and enticed into it who will never have the opportunity to die surrounded by priests being coached into atonement, the Sacraments - and be the recipients of daily Communion and an Apostolic Blessing.

Here in Boston, if you're lucky enough to get some advance warning that you're about to be face-to-face with the Lord and try to call a priest for Viaticum, and the Red Sox are on television, it's a crap shoot. I'm not exaggerating in the least bit. Numerous people have stories about priests unwilling to take calls to deliver the Sacraments when their relatives are dying. We've got a lot of non-believers in the Boston presbyterate. Everyone is saved, you see, and so reaching out to clean your soul is responded to as zealously as the emptiness of the confessional box at your local parish. We're in deep trouble here. Forget about sending an entourage to the Legion - at least they know this much, the Vatican needs to send an entourage to Boston.

I digress.

In Ted's letter, he articulates that his mother immersed her family in the Catholic Faith. Others are not so enriched. Poverty of spirit is a pandemic in the formation of the family. Indigence, death and other misfortunes, mental illness, crime, the Jesuits, etc., create a vaccuum in some families that is too difficult to overcome. When the wind comes, they're swept away - for generations.

Mothers, fathers, grandparents and family who impart the gift of faith to their children get the opportunity for atonement and redemption Ted Kennedy got in his dying days. The people with circumstances that challenged their faith formation, not so much.

This is the injustice of reserving personal beliefs about redemption and taking full advantage of them on your death bed after having set up a generation of constituents to believe they can exercise their right to kill another human being without remorse, confession and absolution and give them the impression the life they are living is every bit as salvific as Mother Teresa's, so long as they serve in the soup kitchens.

Being blessed in this life to have the circumstances to know your Faith, take a leadership position, but set up your constituents to travel another path while reserving what you know is the path to redemption for yourself, is neither charity nor valor. I can't personally think of anything more egregious as a Catholic.

Assuming Ted Kennedy righted his ship on his death bed, there is much rejoicing as far as I'm concerned. For him.

Unfortunately, we still have some loose ends to clean up.

He was a public leader with a public ministry and stood in public defiance of many of the teachings of the Church - in spite of what he now says were his own personal convictions. That record has not been publicly corrected.

As I watched his beautiful family, I feel compelled to solicit influential theologians, priests, Bishops to help them to understand where and why we hold the positions we hold - to heal those divisions and wounds and beg for a new era of Roman Catholic political leadership in the fullness of the Truth. It isn't born of acrimony, but zeal for Christ's souls - something gone tragically awry in seminary formation in the United States.

We've done a terrible job getting this across to masses - or more accurately stated, we've been too darn lazy and craven to combat the mainstream media using the fringe to contort where our heart lies in the things we say and do in a generation where the priests are hopping into the sack, the bottle, the pills and every other indulgence to fix their broken self-esteem. I'm sorry to say it but it is what it is.

We've got to inventory the challenges and set a strategy to rise above them.

A commenter in another post wrote that if Obama turned his positions about abortion, to authentic prolife positions and then acted upon those positions, what a leader he could be. We will never, not ever, attempt to find common ground while 51 million children and counting die in the protion of the culture of death in his administration. Stop asking us. This country didn't leave slavery legal and instead attempt to influence people not to use them. Rebellion and divisions are heighted at such a stupid suggestion. It's about killing people.

How we get there, I don't know but I know we've just got to try. We can't continue this course. After Labor Day, we've got work to do.

Boston Catholics continue to be outraged that their Cardinal enticed others to carry out his abortion business to "save" Caritas Christi. The handling of the matter, the sneakiness of using the media to to distort the truth about what he was doing makes union with him is irreconcilable. It is the same cesspool Ted Kennedy fell into. With "healthcare" reform on the horizon and possibly new efforts posthumous - Boston prolifers have a duty to force the Cardinal to release the opinion of the National Catholic Bioethics Center and, to obtain copies of contracts that will reveal the current situation so others will not fall into the trap. We intend to follow through with that duty.

Cardinal O'Malley's Presence at Kennedy Funeral Mass

There's been a lot of subterfuge in the Boston Catholic community over what kind of a message O'Malley presiding at Ted's funeral Mass will give to the tenet of "thou shalt not kill" to the salvation of the soul. O'Malley is a man who makes contracts with abortionists to carry out a business arrangement to improve the financial portfolio of the diocese. He is anathema.

Ted Kennedy was a loving man. He had many broken days and by all accounts his beautiful wife - a woman with grace and much love - healed many of his wounds and improved the quality of his life. He loved Christ. He loved his family. He loved his country. He loved the poor. As a Catholic, I was heartbroken that the priests and Bishops and Cardinals misled his spirit and soul - as I was when I found out they were misleading my own...all of us.

Ted Kennedy received Viaticum. Hopefully, the minister of that Sacrament had the spinal fortitude to explain what needed to be explained. That duty lies with that minister and the failure is charged to his soul - another heartbreaking thing to watch for Catholics who know their faith and spiritual world. A beautiful Mass is about to begin in a beautiful House of Worship and Our Lady of Perpetual Help is petitioned and venerated by many, many people for hundreds of years.

I'm watching and praying for all the moonbats who are assembling there. God help us. God protect us and inspire us. God have mercy on us all.

Pelosi Agrees to Meet with Bishop

SAN FRANCISCO (Map, News) - House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, under fire from U.S. bishops for comments she made about abortion, accepted on Friday an invitation from the Roman Catholic archbishop of San Francisco for a private talk.

This is an interesting soundbite:

Pelosi said in a letter to Archbishop George Niederauer that she'd "welcome the opportunity for our personal conversation and to go beyond our earlier most cordial exchange about immigration and needs of the poor to Church teaching on other significant matters."

Did a previous meeting take place and Archbishop Niederauer skirt the issue of abortion? Seems peculiar. The more likely scenario is that it was discussed but she heard what she wanted to hear, not what was actually said?

The souls at stake I should think would require specific instructions that she can follow her conscience with her free will, but misleading others into perdition is forcing the Bishops hand to warn her Catholic constituents that her path that she's outside communion with the Catholic Church.

Making a choice between the Sacraments of the Catholic Church and letting go of misrepresenting her authority to be that of the Catholic Church would seem like an easy decision.

This election may not be Deja vu all over again. The winner of that battlefield is Christ.
