Michael Paulson at the Globe has a post up on the Caritas situation

Caritas, troubled in Mass, looks to RI

In the post, he has an interesting link to Paul Levy's (President and CEO of Beth Israel Hospital in Boston) blog.

When he worked here, the current CEO of the Caritas Christi system would often look wistfully to the south and ask us to consider taking over the troubled Landmark Medical Center in Woonsocket. We put the kibosh on that idea faster that you can say, "State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations."

Now, according to this Boston Globe story by Rob Weisman, he is pursuing the same plan. I think it's time for the SEIU to investigate this. After all, they are keen on increasing state aid to a financially troubled Massachusetts hospital in the Caritas system. They can't also be in favor of transferring those state funds and charitable assets to support a financially troubled system in another state.

It's like solving the foreclosure problems we have in this country by having one house owner in foreclosure buy up another.

There's been a lot of secrecy and lying about this deal from Caritas and a Catholic Cardinal. There is something screwy and sinister going on.

This is all too hard to understand. It seems to me that if you strap two leaky lifeboats together, they sink faster. Perhaps people could be more transparent about their intentions and hopes.

Happy Veteran's Day!

And what a Blessed day it is to celebrate our freedom and be thankful for the bravery and sacrifices it took to purchase it.

A reader and friend sent in a story from today's Boston Globe about the Archbishop of Boston.

I'll spare you the pain:

He's up and he's down, he's in and he's out, it's black and it's white, it's wrong and it's right.
And, with that teaching clear, let everybody figure it all out themselves.

Forever a rose among the thorns though:

Bishop Thomas J. Tobin of Providence, who before the election wrote, "I could never vote for a candidate - of any party for any office - who supports laws that promote or allow the death of thousands of children in the hideous crime of abortion," yesterday offered the rosiest analysis of the election, saying, "There's a possibility it could have been worse if the bishops weren't speaking out."

What Mike Paulson article would be complete without the acrimony of seeing the Roman Catholic Church as hateful people circling all their happy-go-lucky wagons:

But liberal groups are urging a different approach. Patrick Whelan, of Catholic Democrats, said the bishops should "recognize that there's no place at the table for groups that peddle hateful labels like 'proabortion politician' or advocate using the Holy Eucharist as a political weapon on behalf of the Republicans."

Chris Korzen, executive director of Catholics United, said the bishops "now must figure out how to rebuild bridges they have burned with the incoming administration and the Democratic Party, and how to recover lost good will with the millions of Catholics who clearly do not recognize bishops' moral authority in political matters."

We are kill joys, we are! Sourpusses!

He that hurteth, let him hurt still: and he that is filthy, let him be filthy still: and he that is just, let him be justified still: and he that is holy, let him be sanctified still. 12 Behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to render to every man according to his works. 13 I am Alpha and Omega, the first and the last, the beginning and the end. 14 Blessed are they that wash their robes in the blood of the Lamb: that they may have a right to the tree of life, and may enter in by the gates into the city. 15 Without are dogs, and sorcerers, and unchaste, and murderers, and servers of idols, and every one that loveth and maketh a lie.

16 I Jesus have sent my angel, to testify to you these things in the churches. I am the root and stock of David, the bright and morning star. 17 And the spirit and the bride say: Come. And he that heareth, let him say: Come. And he that thirsteth, let him come: and he that will, let him take the water of life, freely.
