Huffington Post's Latest AntiCatholic Rant is Bigoted and Bizzare

Wayne Beson has his panties in a twist over statements made by the Catholic Pope on gay marriage.

It's antigay. It's bigoted. It's bizzare. The Pope is a joke. His reign is an abject failure. It's outrageous. It's secrecy. Rejecting gay marriage means you are a liar and a lunatic, so which is it: Is the Pope a liar or a lunatic. It's arrogant. Just look at the crusades and the pedophiles. Enablers of child abuse. The pathological homophobia is being fed down the food chain. Pathetic "prayers". Blowing holy smoke where the sun don't shine. Attacks on innocent GLBT families.

Somebody around this place is insensitive, indecent, intolerant, reprehensible and out of touch.

Here's an epiphany pal, that would be you.

Let us cut to the chase. You don't want to see same sex sex on the list of sins that impedes your redemption. I don't blame you. It hurts to think something we are doing is rejected by God. We all know it in some form or fashion somewhere along our lives in big things and in little things. In ways that we use our tongue or our libido harms others and hurts God.

In my CCD teaching days, I used to liken premarital sex to robbing a bank.
Their first reaction was indignant. God doesn't see teenagers who have sex like the terrible people who rob banks!

I would express my shock at their thoughts that God sees people who rob banks as terrible people. I would invite them to see that God sees robbers as poor people who do something desperate to feed, house and clothe their family. People who need money. God never sees anyone as a terrible person - just people with needs, desires and wants.

I would continue the story. A man who loses his job or gets caught up in the web of substance abuse and has no way to feed his family. His children are hungry and he decides to rob a bank. He gets a gun. He needs somebody to drive the getaway car. He asks around. One of his friends agrees to drive him to the bank. This person then becomes an accomplice to breaking the commandment Thou Shalt Not Steal. If anyone gets hurt or killed, an accomplice to Thou Shalt Not Kill.

When we have desires to sin, we can very rarely pull it off by ourselves. We invite accomplices to assist us in fulfilling our needs and desires. If we carry out our own lustful desires, we invite a victim into sin. We hold out the apple and if they bite, you are both thrown out of paradise. Naked. With nothing.

The object of your desire is a temple of the Holy Spirit. Inviting them to partner in your sinful wants, needs, desires is leading them into temptation. An accomplice to Thou Shalt not Commit Adultery.

The state is not in the business of the salvation of souls. Just because something is legal, doesn't mean it isn't harmful to you or your neighbor. Want to live with your lover? Knock yourselves out. Give to Caesar what it Caesar's. But if you die before you give what is God's to God - you're in for an eternity of suffering in a place with some unsavory characters. The Catholic Church is going to stand in that same public square and call out to the sheep. There is nothing hateful or unconstitutional about it and we will do it - come what may.

Let us face it. The John Unnis of this world are the worst enemies of Christ's Church. Inside of His Sanctuary, he becomes his own hero and a hero of the Chancery bean counters by fueling contempt for remorse and the redemption of the Catholic Church and the fruit is Wayne Beson.

Coakley, Menino and the Obamas have all found Jesus again.

At a morning prayer service in Dorchester for the victims of the earthquake in Haiti, Mayor Menino told the congregation that if the Democrats lose in Massachusetts, it's a vote for people who want Obama to fail.

And, look how many of us there are, that's the kick in the pants.

Martha Coakley, who was with him, praised Obama for trying to "bring America to a brighter future".

Do you suppose either of them mentioned the devastation caused by the earthquake?

How positively shameless to go into a grieving Haitian community where relatives and friends are still among the missing, the news reports showing people are without food and water and turn it into a political stump for Coakley and Obama.

I have an idea: Maybe the Cardinal ought to open up the Cathedral and have her explain to us her thoughts on how Catholics have the freedoms provided in the Constitution of the United States, but in her world view, we're going to be told where we can't work.

I think she'd fill the Cathedral, wouldn't you?


"You (Catholics) can have religious freedom, but you probably shouldn't work in the emergency room."

The whole idea behind the First Amendment of the Constitution, protecting religious freedom, is to foster tolerance in the public square and most especially in the workplace.

Constitutional Amendments actually apply to the workplace.

This is where Equal Opportunity Employment gets it's authority from the laws of the United States.

America is a country unified and respectful of each others religious convictions in the area of employment. When one person cannot carry out orders to euthanize a patient because of religious convictions, another person is supposed to step up to the plate because we are legally protected from being ordered to do things in the workplace that are against our religious convictions.

Of course, the problem is, once somebody refuses to kill or euthanize a patient, the next person realizes they're killing them. Then some people's consciences starts to bother them. Other people who believe the constitution gives license for anybody who wishes to kill another human being who would make, or is making your life more of a burden, jump into the donnybrook.


The Obamas who reportedly didn't attend Church services for Christmas or Easter last year -and come to think of it I don't think he's been reported to attend Church since his election - lo and behold, they're finally heading to Church too. He's going to talk about how to help the people Haiti.


Isn't this nice?

They've all found Jesus again.

What are the odds Obama too will mention something about the election?

What happened the separation of Church and State?

Wouldn't this be campaigning inside of Churches?

I'm sure Catholics in Alliance for the Common Good will get right on this.

Maybe we should complain to the Attorney General?

Oh, wait a minute - she's the party of the first part, isn't she.

Boy, wouldn't it take their thunder away if Brown were outside waiting for them and asked Coakley to expound upon her statement?

Presumably, you'd have to then draw the conclusion that Catholics ought not to be physicians, nurses, pharmacists - right?

I know these aren't Catholics, but Church-going people are generally pro-life across the board and they certainly would be appalled Coakley sees the government as having the right to dictate places where the constitutional freedom of religion doesn't apply?

The irony of these three politicians who have been fighting the right to life their entire political careers now using a gathering where relatives and friends are without food and water in a country where everything has been leveled in a catastrophic event, does not go unnoticed.

Jesus, deliver us from this slavery.

Catholics' Ten Most Dreaded Words: I'm from the Vatican and I'm here to help

George Weigel writes on First Things about the Ineptitude at the Vatican.

The reports have emanated from those who had been advised of the Legion’s own investigation of Maciel, but there is still no formal statement from the leadership of the Legion as to what its internal investigations have uncovered. There has been no full disclosure of what is known about Fr. Maciel’s corruptions. There has been no disclosure as to the nature and extent of the web of deceit he must have spun within the Legion of Christ, and beyond. And there has been no public recognition of what faithful, orthodox, morally upright Legionary priests believe have been grave corruptions of the institutional culture of their community.

The letter from Fr. Alvaro Corcuera to the faithful of Regnum Christi, distributed last week and immediately available online, was completely inadequate in naming these sins for what they were. Public statements by Legion spokesmen in Rome and in America have been just as bad, due largely to failures by Legion leadership and to an institutionalized culture of defensiveness.

While the Legion has a credibility problem on their hands, the more disturbing aspect of this story is the cover up at the Vatican level.

The spin they allowed in the vacuum of defending Maciel for decades.

Fathers Berg, Gill, and Williams have also conceded, admirably, their own failures to see through the web of deceit spun by Fr. Maciel. Their words reconfirm what those of us who have benefitted from the friendship of Legionary priests have known for years—there is great good here, as there is among the faithful members of Regnum Christi.

The question now is, how shall that good be saved?

It can only be saved if there is full, public disclosure of Fr. Maciel’s perfidies and if there is a root-and-branch examination of possible complicity in those perfidies within the Legion of Christ. That examination must be combined with a brutally frank analysis of the institutional culture in which those perfidies and that complicity unfolded. Only after that kind of moral and institutional audit has been conducted, and has been seen publicly to be a clean audit, can the Legion of Christ, and the broader Church

There's one thing I completely disagree with George about in his op-ed, because, it is quite frankly, just more enabling.

George suggests that an audit of the Legion be done, mandated by the Pope, by somebody who reports directly to the Pope and "he would be instructed to make recommendations (again, to the pope alone)".

Implied in this suggestion is, in the gross dysfunction at the Curia, the corruption flourishes and we need to allow it to continue to flourish as we work around the problem to solve the Maciel mystery.

Then what?

We all pretend whatever else the corruption is covering is not our responsibility?

Not good enough. Nowhere near good enough.

A curia in which no one in authority had the sense to Google “Richard Williamson,” and no subordinate had the nerve or capacity to compel the superiors to pay attention to a potential landmine, is not a curia capable of getting to the roots of the Maciel betrayal. Nor, candidly, is it a curia capable of conducting an investigation that can command public credibility. It is regrettable that this is the case, for there are many honorable people working in the Roman curia. But it is the case.

The truth is, the Vatican can rely on the culture within to keep dirty little secrets under the radar. Catholics who want to rub elbows with the Curia oppress, punish and snub whistle-blowers. The last thing they will do is make the dirty secret public. They will sit around and cordially put on dog and pony show in the presence of somebody they know is doing something harmful. When whistleblowers are abused and snubbed, some even join in kicking the wounded animal.

Numerous priests have been pulled out of their ministry for "telling". I might even venture to say - every one who ever "told" is pulled out of their ministry and persecuted.

The revelations that Maciel was a drug and people abusing sex addict all along has exposed what many of us have feared all along. We should be investigating who knew what at the Roman Curia and "disband", "dismiss", "replace" and "reform" anyone and anything whose fingerprints are on this absurdity.

Then, we will have gone a long way towards resoring credibility, "saving" not only the Legion but the many priests and parishes who are suffering from the ineptitude, dysfunction and corruption.

We can do better than this?
