Boston Globe Coverage of Cardinal O'Malley's Circus in Ireland

The Boston Globe has a few articles today on the Catholic Church in Ireland and the fix-it circus Cardinal O'Malley has brought into town.

The first article is coverage of people who have wandered from the Divinity of Christ to trump 2000 years worth of the intellect of the Holy Spirit with their own so they can pursue their own agendas.

Here's how one woman, who calls herself a 'liturgist' (what the heck is that??)describes it:

“The sexual abuse crisis has been the catalyst for a much deeper question that was emerging anyway — it’s the whole question of faith, of what it means to be a Christian. Do we believe all of what we profess?’’ said Mary Connolly, a liturgist for the Archdiocese of Tuam, which includes Westport, and a parishioner at St. Mary’s Church. “It’s kind of an awakening of a post-modern society. . . . We all have a choice now.’’

There sure is a sucker born every minute, isn't there.

The story also features a gentleman who was living with his girlfriend and left the Church when the conditions to enter the Sacrament of Marriage were explained to him.

What makes people so obstinate about the rules about Sacraments?

People flock to information about how to keep their body healthy with exercise. They can't get enough on the topic of eating healthy. Some people even approach a conversation about the (pagan) power of a crystal or magnetic bracelet with an open mind.

I'm all for stretching the muscles of your body and doing things to feel fit. But did you ever notice that studios who sell 'yoga' offer it as more than a muscular tune up? When you talk to people who swear by it, the'll tell you that it's a journey to the center of yourself as a fix for your turbulent animus.

This one is a no brainer for me. If my animus is turbulent, I'm usually the person I'm trying to get away from so the last place I want to go is a journey to the center of me. :)

You can go to an exercise class as a skeptic and participate in what the class is doing without listening to the directions or putting any effort it. You can even show up at class and reject the instructions, do it your own way and hurt yourself.

I once met a woman who came to weight watcher meetings each week who would sit down and tell anyone nearby who would listen that it was balderdash. She said she had found the key to successful weight loss - eating anything you wanted whenever you wanted it.

Thanks for the tip lady, but anytime I march my fanny to Weight Watchers, eating whatever I wanted whenever I wanted, it is how the weight went on, not off.

Seriously, I'm not making this up. The woman said when your mentality is depriving yourself of french fries and chocolate, you'll wind up feeling deprived and then overeating.

Sadly, the scale went up every week for her and she eventually stopped coming. I don't think it panned out because I saw her six months later and she looked like she gained 50 pounds.

My point is, people know that their animus is fed by a combination of of body, intellect/mind and spirit and all of these things hunger to be fed. A general rule of thumb to keep in mind - if you want something, you better have the tools for a discernment process in place before you go ahead and take it.

When you enter into a battle with your body, mind or spirit, it all depends on your objectives.

Are you there to learn how to recognize your impulsive unhealthy desires, how to not give in to them and learn new healthy habits?

If you're not going to resist sloth, avarice and gluttony, why bother putting any energy into signing up for a gym and going to weight watchers, right? Save your money for when you have conviction of the heart.

The Catholic Church is the institution Christ left us to provide the tools to keep our animus in tip top shape. The Sacraments draw upon the power of Sacramental Grace contained in Them. We enter those Sacraments with the intention to draw upon the power. It's food for our mind and spirit.

There's a moment in Christ's ministry that teaches about the power of Sacramental Grace in the Sacraments. Walking in a crowd, He suddenly asked 'who' was touching Him. The Apostles, astounded, asked what He was talking about because He had been surrounded by people who were touching Him all day. Christ explained that He felt the power drain from Him, knew that somebody believed, approached with that belief and the purpose of her reaching out and touching Him was to draw the power to heal. In fact, she hadn't even touched Him, she touched the fringe on His cloak. By her faith, she was healed but many who touched Him in that day drew no such benefit.


Approaching the Catholic Church and asking for the Sacrament of Marriage while making clear you intend to exclude Sacramental Grace, the Church can not go along with it. You are entering the Sacrament without understanding what it is, building the foundation of your marriage upon sand. No sound (or sane) priest would go along with it.

Sure, every diocese is filled to the rafters with priests who will do it. But those who do are in the priesthood for something other than the salvation of the souls. Going in and out of their parishes will poison your intellect and spirit and you - or the children you subject them to - will at some point wind up on the highway to hell. For some of us, thankfully, the parishes gone to the dogs just got too screwy to be a by-product of God's.

There was a time to stay in a parish like that to be a witness for the authentic Church but the internal schism has far too much momentum now. The time for that has passed.

We are now facing the final confrontation between the Church and the antichurch, between the Gospel and the anti-gospel, between Christ and the antichrist. This confrontation lies within the plans of Divine Providence. It is, therefore, in God's Plan, and it must be a trial which the Church must take up, and face courageously." - Venerable Pope John Paul II

The second article focuses on Cardinal O'Malley's mission to retrieve the estranged.

Ironically, Cardinal O'Malley believes the way to retrieve the estranged is to build the foundation with people who reject the teachings of the Church. He has never hired nor appointed anyone whose credentials were faithful to the teachings of the Church. All of his hires and appointees either overtly rejected Church teaching in the public square, have spent decades in a role that opposes Church teaching or have spent their careers silent on the teachings of the Church. (There are employees whom he inherited that are faithful, but I'm speaking about Cardinal O'Malley's appointees).


The results of this model Cardinal O'Malley selected to guide his flock in Boston has Mass attendance under his regime plummeting from 376,383 in 2000 to 286,951, according to last year's count.

This model of church bars the attendees from Sacramental Grace. Non believers do not impart knowledge about the fringe of Christ's cloak because they are not in possession of the faith. They do not have, and therefore do not teach, the tools that lead the faithful to approach the Sacraments with belief to draw upon the power of Sacramental Grace and the Divinity of the Body and Blood of Christ. The deprivation of Grace ultimately leaves the flock open to being lured into some hell hole. The pews thin out accordingly.

I am moved to tears that my Ireland has this circus to look forward to as their future. I'm none too happy we'll be treated to puff pieces from the Boston Globe about it. I guess all we can do is make sure the truth is available and public and pray that people will find their way to it, as we did.

The raising of Lazarus was the last straw for those who refused to acknowledge Jesus as the Messiah. When Christ healed the man born blind, attempts to pretend it had not happened failed, and the last recourse was to claim it was a sinful act, violating the Sabbath laws. At first, the refusal to rejoice in these great signs seems as remarkable as the signs themselves, but it is typical of a cramped view of the world, by which close-minded people deny reality. When Jesus called Lazarus from the tomb, “many believed in Him,” but others rushed to the Pharisees, who feared that the Romans would react violently. The miracle was evident, but the desire for social and political control took precedence. This miracle was the efficient cause for the start of the Passion.

Thus, we see the flaw in the adage that “seeing is believing.” It is possible for human pride to refuse to believe what it sees. Of course, one must guard against illusions that trick human vision, but there is a willfulness in obtuse people that rejects palpable evidence. Having received the report about Lazarus, the Pharisees reacted like Sergeant Frank Drebin, the character in the “Naked Gun” film series: “Nothing to see here! Please disperse.”

That kind of vaunting of ideology over truth would focus on the sins and failings of Christians to be Christians, rather than acknowledge the saints and miracles of Christ in history. Recently, after much investigation by medical experts, Bishop Emmanuel Delmas of Angers, France confirmed the extraordinary healing of Serge François in 2002. This 56-year-old man with a paralyzed leg was instantly cured at Lourdes and walked 975 miles to the shrine of Santiago de Compostela in thanksgiving. This received little publicity because it was outside the secular media’s ability to account for such a sign.

It is easier to distract people by calling attention to ecclesiastical gossip and controversies than to admit the spiritual combat that engages the world. Consider the recent massacre of 1,000 people by Muslims in the Ivory Coast town of Duékoué. Few press agencies mentioned that the victims were Catholics seeking sanctuary in the Salesian mission of Saint Teresa of the Child Jesus. William Blake wrote: “This life’s dim windows of the soul / Distorts the heavens from pole to pole / And leads you to believe a lie / When you see with, not through, the eye.”

Humility is truth, and opens the eyes to what human pride would keep in darkness. Moral vision interprets the signs of the times, and man is accountable for how he understands. As He headed for the cross, Jesus said, “If you were blind, you would have no guilt; but now that you say ‘We see,’ your guilt remains” (John 9:41).

The Luck of the Irish

According to Fr. Tony Flannery of the dissident 'catholic priests association', Cardinal O'Malley met with the 'reform group' and had a 'serious discussion' about the need to turn the Church over to lay people before it collapses.

THE Pope will be officially told the Irish Catholic Church is "on the edge" of national collapse and has only five to 10 years to make a radical recovery by giving laymen and women a greater say in decision-making.

This warning will be submitted in the coming months in a confidential report to Pope Benedict XVI by an international investigator examining the state of the Irish church in the wake of the Murphy and Ryan reports into clerical child abuse.

Cardinal Sean O'Malley, the archbishop of Boston, gave this commitment at a private meeting with members of the recently formed Catholic Priests' Association, Redemptorist priest Fr Tony Flannery revealed at the weekend.

Addressing the annual meeting of The People of God, a lay reform group, Fr Flannery, who met Cardinal O'Malley, revealed that the US prelate engaged in "serious discussion" with the association.

Fr Flannery said Cardinal O'Malley told the association that the Irish church had a decade, at most, to avoid falling over the edge and "becoming like other European countries" where religion is marginal to society.


An American cardinal will tell Pope Benedict XVI that the Church in Ireland is facing a danger of “national collapse,” according to reports in the Irish press.

Cardinal Sean O’Malley of Boston, who is conducting an apostolic visitation in the Dublin archdiocese, reportedly promised a group of Irish priests that he would report to the Pontiff that the Irish Church is in urgent need of reform.

Previously sceptical about the Apostolic Visitation to Ireland ordered by Pope Benedict, Fr Flannery said that in the light of Cardinal O'Malley's undertaking, "there may be some gleam of hope".

Our friends at Catholic Culture are skeptical.

Editor’s note: These media reports should be read with some caution for two reasons: First, the reports came not from Cardinal O’Malley but from representatives of the Association of Catholic Priests, a dissident group with its own agenda. Second, Cardinal O’Malley, whose Boston archdiocese has suffered unprecedented losses during his tenure, is unlikely to overstate the problems facing another local Church.

But, what is there not to believe? Meeting with dissidents and turning teaching, sanctifying and governance over to them is precisely what the Cardinal has done here in Boston. It is not an exaggeration to say that in Boston the role of a Bishop is no longer in the picture. Three hundred years of building an infrastructure here in Boston was demolished in five years.


In 2005, there were 3,731,000 Catholics in the Archdiocese of Boston. Last year in Boston attendance at Mass was down to 286,000.

What's that about 7.5%?

Here it is, right out of the mouth of babes:

“Each time we go to Mass. . . . the pews seem emptier and emptier,’’ said Janet Benestad, secretary for faith formation and evangelization at the archdiocese.

By all means, don't let that stop you from rushing the blueprint over to Ireland.

What's the reason for the decline?

It really isn't complicated.

The credentials of teachers, administrators, lay men and women the Cardinal (and his luminaries) recruit to have a 'greater say in decision making' are not Catholic. Some of them are literally not Catholic and never have been Catholic. Others are baptized Catholics who are either not practicing because they reject the teachings of the Catholic Church or they have formally left for another religion. Some, like Fr. Flannery, have been working the vineyard internally to 'reform' the teachings of the Church by teaching the faithful the Catechism is antiquated.

As he is recommending in Ireland, this is the pool of candidates the Cardinal recruited to make decisions in Boston.

The decline in attendance is causally related to the empire of leaders who then teach the people in the pews to reject the faith. The numbers decrease because parents who are bringing their children to be taught the faith are actually taught to reject it. Consequently, they stop coming and the numbers keep plummeting.

This genius plan is heading to our beautiful Emerald Isle.

It makes me want to cry.

I read recently that a bishop in another diocese was doing his "reforming" by mandating teachers and professionals hired take an oath of fidelity to the teachings of the Church. The books, programs, resources and materials all zealously teach the wisdom and beauty of Catholic teaching.

It seems so odd that men smart enough to get elevated to a Bishop don't know how to choose between the fruit of recruiting people for decision making that will pass on their distaste and rejection to Catholics in the pews and the fruit of teachers and leaders who are on fire for truth and will ignite that fire in the pews.

What is there to say but the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.

The fiasco (or better said the Mafioso) at the Boston Archdiocese - Update

A few more people have weighed in on the tack Mr. Fix It is taking Catholic education in the United States.

Michael Pakaluk has weighed in on his experiences as a father of a first grader at a Boston Catholic school where the child of two gay men was enrolled.


Pakaluk describes several of his experiences with the school administration who, once the child and family were a part of the Catholic school community, began to break down the Catholic environment so that the sound of the teachings of the Church would not make the gay family feel unwelcome.

You can't have it both ways.  Either you teach the teachings of the Church or you hold back on them so as not to offend.


This has been the struggle for the last 40 years.

It is a no-brainer that placing gay families in a Catholic School to supposedly "take care of" that one child is going to result in silencing the teachings of the Church for every other Catholic enrolled to hear them.

I wholeheartedly disagree with Michael's last paragraph for three reasons:

It should be said that all of my practical concerns involve young children, who should be innocent of sexual matters and whose familial affections are still being formed. Nothing I have said would count against admitting children raised by same-sex couples into high school, and probably not middle school.

1.  As previously mentioned, puberty and high school are exactly the time children are ripe for sexual programming.  Discussion about Catholic ethics and morality will be a battleground of clashes even for teachers who uphold the teachings of the Church.    Not only have you lost the environment where discussions can take place freely as the take it or leave it choice on the path of your own salvation, just as the adults in the situation change what they say and do to "protect" the child and family, so won't the children.

2. This is the precise time when children develop and test their inexperienced sexual feelings and emotions.   Children of gay parents who act out their emotions and sexuality as they're taught at home will naturally start inviting other children into relationships.

3. I don't believe for a minute that homosexual priests chose teenagers because they were attracted to teenagers.

Adults talk.  Teenagers can be manipulated into silence.

Paul Shanley made it look like he was all about helping the kiddies and meanwhile, he was exploiting the sexuality he was grooming.  He was a homosexual and when he came across kids in puberty to "help them", he helped groom their sexual development.    He then took first dibs.

It was about control.

Quite frankly, I still don't see an inch of work in watching over the sexual activities of the homosexual priests in the archdiocese. 

(Kathryn Lopez also touches upon the fact what is playing out here in Boston is very related to the agenda of homosexual priests who were unfaithful to the teachings of the Church in a shocking and despicable way.)

Homosexual priests who used children because they could silence them have caused a great deal of confusion.   

The word homosexual, like the word priest, is not interchangeable with pedophile.

Pedophiles are a breed of their own.

Homosexuals go out and find partners their own age to have relationships with, just like heterosexuals.

Homosexual priests are supposed to be celibate.  Because they're supposed to be celibate and they don't want to get caught, they had to find people whom they could control, right into silencing them.

 With the Cardinal ignoring the warning signs of a group of priests at Arch Street whose sexual lives were fodder for pornographic novels, who, according to the author, included books about sexually exploiting run away teens --with nobody in the hierarchy paying any attention whatsoever to the sex lives of gay priests -- with Catholic laity who still think talking about a Cardinal's contract to kill children is naughty -- and with a hierarchy that has no mechanism that will report corruption (even if it's about killing children), much less do anything about it...is this really the time to introduce young, gay teenage boys into Catholic schools?

As Byran Hehir has already divulged, Cardinal O'Malley's tack is going to be giving children a smorgasbord of social contributions to give the appearance the good things we do purchases our salvation and whoever they're hopping into bed with is the product of two good people and is therefore also good.

This was their reasoning for sleeping with children to begin with.  The chicken has come home to roost. It's Cardinal Bernadin's failed experiment which has led a generation of Catholics into the abyss and multitudes of children to be sexually abused. They are marching towards the next generation.

"Fate of Catholics United Petition to Cardinal O'Malley is Uncertain"

THIS you're going to love.

So, remember Catholics United said they delivered a "petition with 5000 names on it" asking the Cardinal to overrule Fr. Rafferty?

They're back in the news.  Apparently, the Cardinal couldn't find the petition and so Catholics United sent over three of their local members to hand-deliver it:

After the non-delivery was made public, Catholics United, which is based in Washington D.C., requested three of its members living in Boston (Joe Betz, Phil George and Larry Kessler) to personally deliver the signatures to the archdiocesan offices and take pictures of themselves at the entrance of Boston’s pastoral center.

Haven't they ever heard of certified mail?

They state the diocese first looked like it was going to craft a policy to preempt Fr. Rafferty and Cindy Duggan's "discrimination" but they are concerned about Cardinal O'Malley's recent statements and so they conjured up the petition.

The archdiocese initially signaled strong opposition to such discrimination and promised to craft a policy to preempt future controversy. Recent statements from Cardinal O'Malley and other archdiocesan officials, however, appeared more supportive of the school's admissions decision.

Here's their request:

The petition requests that the archdiocese allow the enrollment of children from gay couples in Catholic schools without any limitations or vetting process.

Let's just state for the record again that the Hingham mother made clear she was offended by Catholic teaching on human sexuality and expected the curriculum to exclude those teachings.  It is not "discrimination" to make the decision that the other parents in the school are paying tuition so their children will be taught the Catholic religion and so the relationship was not compatible.

It isn't possible to abstain from a conversation about whether a Catholic environment is one where every child will flourish.    Parents who dissent from the faith may not realize that what will be taught will cause a wedge of authority over moral matters at home and the consequences.   Decisions have to be made first and foremost to protect the deposit of faith being handed to the next generation.   Simultaneously, what is best for a child is not to subject them to psychological trauma of damaging the intimate relationship with their parents.

The right to teach human sexuality in accordance with the Catholic Church in a Catholic school is our right and we will exercise that right, come what may.

 One of their moles on the inside of the Chancery helped lobby the petition to the Cardinal:

In a press release sent to CNA, James Salt said that Catholics United members expressed their concerns “to an archdiocesan canon lawyer, who agreed to present the petition to Cardinal O'Malley on their behalf.”

The Archdiocesan lawyer is nameless, of course.

And, where does the petition end up?

Terry Donilon, Secretary for Communications of the Archdiocese of Boston, informed CNA on May 28 that he is in possession of the petition to Cardinal O'Malley.

What does your press secretary have to do with the discernment of the Cardinal in evaluating the merits of the positions of the petition for your new education policies?

In response to a question about what influence the petition might have on the forthcoming policy, Donilon said that “the recent statements by the Cardinal and Dr. Grassa O’Neill addressing the matter noted that we expect a policy to be established in the near term in order to provide guidance for pastors and schools going forward.” 

What do these folks (being coddled and entertained by Cardinal O'Malley and his wizards) do on the ground to advance their Catholics United agenda?

This proves my point that teachers in the Archdiocese dissent from the teachings of the Church and it is therefore ludicrous to suggest, as Bryan Hehir does, that the policy of the Archdiocese is that the teachings on human sexuality are to be faithfully taught.  


The policy is a joke when you hire teachers that dissent from the teachings of the Church.


Building a policy that is built on a lie is not the handiwork of God.


I don't see his markings.


I saved the best for last.  Larry Kessler.  Larry is on the right in the photo at the "Pastoral Center".  He's been the leading advocate of sexual promiscuity in the homosexual community for decades.

Larry pimps sex.

He used to stand out in front of the Cathedral on the day of ordination and throw condoms at the seminarians.

We don’t have the time to go into all of the history of Larry Kessler.  Heres the best example of what you need to know.  His AIDS Action Committee published an illustrated sexually-explicit guide to safe sex for gay people called the “Little Black Book: Queer in the 21^st century”.  Its gross.  Really gross.  MassResistance has a copy of the book online, but warning, it’s very explicit and very disturbing. It opens with “Hey Queer Boys!  Is this is a great time to be gay or what!”  WARNING, the following 2 links are very graphic. Apologies for the graphic language and pictures folks, but topics include  “watersports”, “fisting,” “mutual jerkin’ off,” and “Handy Dandy Condom Guide.”  Under condom usage, the book says, “Condoms say ‘I care’ and using a condom lets your partner know you think he’s worthwhile as a __ck.” On May 19, 2005, the Boston Globe reported that these booklets were given out by mistake at a Brookline High School event on gay and lesbian issues attended by high school and middle school students.

The book also gives hints on where the kids could find partners to hook up with.


Isn't it nice to know that when the policy that preempts discernment on admissions gets rolled out, as Bryan Hehir has promised, Larry Kessler and his friends sitting pretty with the folks running the Archdiocese will be right there to help everyone out?

BTW, Catholics United was started by Eric McFadden who ran the Hillary Clinton, John Kerry and Governor Strickland political wing and who was subsequently convicted of running a prostitution ring, including pimping teenagers.

One thing you can take to the bank.  You won't find a blog post on Cardinal Sean's Blog saying these people are doing a disservice to Christ's Church.

Ireland Awaits Mr. Fix It

You can always count on that wise expert in Catholic theology Thomas Groome to say the complete opposite of truth in a fact finding mission.

“He goes into Dublin with a lot of credibility and a good track record,” Groome said. “He won’t tolerate a cover-up. He’ll have a pastoral outreach to the victims. He will see to it that the Dublin church is doing things above board. In fairness, that’s been his record in Boston. If the church is going to send in apostolic visitors, I don’t think they could have picked a better person than Cardinal Sean O’Malley.”

You see this is what is so troubling to Boston Catholics who are in the know about what is truly going on.   From the ground, we saw the Cardinal cover up a business to kill the children of the poor, why on earth would anyone believe he'd act any different when papers hit his desk about raping children?

We have had seven years of dishonesty.

After several years of sending paper trails to the Nuncio and Vatican about the propensity of the Cardinal to cover up corruption, the Vatican selects him to "fix" Ireland?

It's actually kind of creepy.

The temptation is there to draw the conclusion that their public statements about wanting to clean up corruption are insincere.
 

I find myself in agreement with Terry McKeirnan:

“The fact is, O’Malley, everywhere he has gone, has been a fixer,” he said. “He’s taken a bad situation for the Catholic Church, glossed it over and he’s a been a silencer, really, rather than a healer.”

He's thrown money at everyone to shut them up and make them go away. Meanwhile, back at the Chancery, he's dismantled everything that is Catholic and handed over the Chancery and the Deposit of Faith to the wealthy apostates.   He has bullied and threatened orthodox priests into silence to the point where they have to fly under the radar.

O’Malley’s work in Ireland begins this fall and is expected to take about a year to complete. The Boston Archdiocese says Cardinal O’Malley’s responsibilities here will not change.

Even taking out the facts that the Vatican is completely aware of the Cardinal's ineptitude, the chaos and dishonesty, how to they figure he can run the most corrupt archdiocese in America and simultaneously clean up the most corrupt diocese in the world?

At best, it is a joke.

In the land of the blind, the one-eyed man is king

Boston Catholics have been hearing a few things about big changes in the diocese now for a few weeks.

With hundreds of Catholics faxing, calling and writing to the Nuncio and the Vatican about the abandonment of the Archbishop from his See, the seven years of dismantling the Catholic Church here in Boston and how in his abandonment, wealthy dissidents have taken over the Chancery and there is fracturing and chaos, we really don't know what to make of the news that the Pope has assigned Cardinal O'Malley to Ireland to "intervene" in a diocese devastated by sexual abuse allegations.

Is this the golden parachute and a Coadjutor will be assigned?

Or, when the Vatican received concerns of several hundred Catholics indicating the Cardinal has shifted power to Jack Connors, other wealthy dissident donors and the Kennedy School of Government,they brainstormed and came up with an idea to give him another job in another diocese, on top of the one he as,  in a land far, far away that is a bigger mess than Boston?

Gee, I hope not, because the only thing more absurd would be to read they're rushing the Legionnaires of Christ over to Ireland to help the Church in Ireland out of the mess.
