Fr. Mullen's Meeting

Many of you are anxious to hear news about Fr. Mullen.

I am waiting for official confirmation but I heard last evening from a member of St. Brendan's Community that Fr. Mullen was upbeat about the meeting.  My source told me that apparently, the Cardinal has reviewed the safe-environment programs Fr. Mullen finds acceptable that do not exploit the innocence of children or put the onus of defending themselves against pedophiles the Archdiocese hires upon them) and they have agreed that the program does not violate the spirit of their agreement with the US Attorney General to keep the Cardinals and Bishops out of jail.

I believe this to be a significant victory but I do want to wait until we hear the official word from Fr. Mullen before we do a cartwheel.

Speaking of Voice of the Faithful...

I came across this gem - Imagining New Ways of Being Catholic: The Underground Church.

Do not miss the quote under 'conclusions'  from an individual (Larry Kessler) discussed in the posts here and here revealing the characters Deacon Anthony Rizzutto recruited to implement "Talking about Touching".

Another 'coincidence'?

Let us not forget that Larry Kessler is also on the parish council and has been a CCD teacher for 14 or so years at the Church listed at 'above ground communities' - Our Lady Help of Christians.

Larry Kessler was also the individual who delivered the 'Catholics United' petition to remove Fr. Rafferty for wanting to exclude admission to a parent who made clear to him the teachings of the Church on human sexuality were discriminatory.

But despite the public announcement of the delivery, the official archdiocesan newspaper The Pilot reported that the Catholics United petition never reached the archdiocese.
After the non-delivery was made public, Catholics United, which is based in Washington D.C., requested three of its members living in Boston (Joe Betz, Phil George and Larry Kessler) to personally deliver the signatures to the archdiocesan offices and take pictures of themselves at the entrance of Boston’s pastoral center.
In a press release sent to CNA, James Salt said that Catholics United members expressed their concerns “to an archdiocesan canon lawyer, who agreed to present the petition to Cardinal O'Malley on their behalf.”
Salt sent the press release to CNA from a Blackberry “powered by CREDO Mobile,” a company  that trumpets its support for progressive causes and has donated over 65 million dollars to organizations such as Planned Parenthood and Greenpeace.
The statement added that Catholics United "will continue to circulate its petition until the archdiocese adopts a clear non-discrimination policy for its Catholic schools."
Nevertheless, the effectiveness of Catholics United's pressure campaign remains in doubt.
Terry Donilon, Secretary for Communications of the Archdiocese of Boston, informed CNA on May 28 that he is in possession of the petition to Cardinal O'Malley.

When Cardinal O'Malley decided the fix was in and he and his staff needed a safe environment to recruit people to talk to children about feelings they'll have when people rub their genitalia, this is his pool of talent.  A program written by prostitution advocates and practicing witches.

I remember one meeting with a regional bishop who tried to tell me it didn't matter who wrote the program.

"Really", I said, "then I presume you'd have no problem if the man-boy-love association wrote the program?"

He got all flustered and told me he of course he would have a problem with that.

"How about if Paul Shanley wrote it, would have a problem then?"

"Where are you going with this?", he gruffly asked me.

" Either the people whose ideas about sex are dangerous to children are the basis for objection for books they write on the subject matter, or they are not."

I looked at his bookshelf and asked him whether he had any books about sex around his office written by prostitutes and witches and when he said he didn't, I said "the same reason you don't have books on your shelf written by whores and witches that you use for reference on sexuality is the same reason we don't want these resources being used for our children."

I then opened the Talking about Touching lesson book and said, I'm  going to read you a lesson or two.

He got all red in the face when I was reading the stories with 'vagina' - 'penis' - etc.    I turned to him and said there is no scrotums or clitoris in these stories.

'That is vulgar', he said, literally so mad he had spit coming out of the sides of his mouth as he said it.

"Are you afraid of the real names of body parts?"  I said?

"How do you like it?   It is absurd isn't it?    You refuse to see the vulgarity of subjecting our kindergarten children to this and now you want to say it's vulgar to repeat these lessons to a big grown man ?"

I have no shame in repeating what you are doing innocent children. "

"Most of the priests were sexually involved with men over the age of 20 and believe you me, they knew the name of their penis. "

"The fix for the mess we are in is taking an inventory of priests who reject celibacy, are out promoting promiscuity and calling them into the Chancery to find out if they are sleeping around and if so, with whom - and then either ministering to or firing people who are involved in adult relationships depending upon the circumstances and reporting the pedophiles to the police."

And with that, I was shuffled out.

(This should put closure on why they don't take me up on my invitations to talk to them about what is going down in the archdiocese?)

Here we are ten years later and the last priest standing is going have his parish taken away from him because he will not deliver the children in his parish to this unscrupulous seduction of their innocence and put them potentially into the hands of a pedophile who shows up to use it as his vehicle.

The shame of lay people who have let the people in the Chancery, including Cardinal O'Malley get away with this is beneath the honor that Christ and our children deserve.

This should be the last straw for Cardinal O'Malley's fiefdom here in Boston.  It is the clarion call for laity to organize and stop what is going on in the Boston Chancery before they destroy every bit of faith, truth, honesty and innocence of children and our priests.    We will have nothing left to hand to our children if we do not rise to the occasion and free the oppression of our faith and children from within.

Private pain generates no social energy. . . Second, the community must know who or what is responsible for the pain (ideology critique). Only then is social and religious imagination generated.

How did the luminaries in Archdiocese of Boston position themselves to be the watchmen?

For the past few days, I outlined how the stories about rape end with leading questions about how it feels to have somebody rub their hands all over a vagina, how those leading questions bring the natural questions children have about 'what sex is', and how these situations are the exact environments pedophiles look for to plant themselves into to recruit victims.

Here is something I haven 't highlighted.

How did Cardinal O'Malley and the Chancery thugs react to the objections?

They said 'so what' and painted parents as fringe.

I review my response to that in this post.  Enjoy.

Meanwhile, here are a few more questions:

What's your instinct about the lifelong effects on their ability to enjoy sex after years of telling children to think of sexuality as something a boogeyman is going to steal from them at any moment and learn how to be combative?

What's the plan to transition children traumatized about what sexuality is to understanding that men and sex are not boogymen so that they can enjoy a healthy sex life with their husband/wife?

Who would be foolish enough to hand their children over for 'safety' to the exact people who got caught shuffling pedophiles and threatening and tormenting people who step forward to complain?

If you remember what happened, once the children got beyond the threats of their abuser and told the people they trusted - their parents and relatives, the the internal code of silence and protecting the good old boys manifested itself.

How did the Bishops ever accomplish hijacking a situation where they are complicit in creating the unsafe environments for children to position themselves as the go-to people for children to report sexual abuse?

With the Boston Archdiocese saying they are catching pedophiles, have they ever divulged to anybody in any parish the identities of the pedophiles they catch?  Are they the people volunteering to teach Talking about Touching?    Is it your children's piano teacher and soccer coach and they haven't told you?

Call Anthony Rizzutto's office and see if you can get a list of names of people they claim they are catching, what parishes they are from and their occupations.

The diocese keeps the identities of the pedophiles away from parents who can protect their own children.  This was the problem and they twisted the fix to give the more power to control the situations - not less.

The policy where they were taking the ability to protect children away from Catholic parents has been replaced with a policy where they  have taken the ability to protect children away from Catholic parents.

Get it?

You would  think Catholics would see the lunacy but the majority of them went right along with it - in spite of their instincts and knowing the situation created more opportunities for perverts than there ever was before.

Part of the problem is, Catholics who want to 'be somebody' in the Catholic Church need to sit at swanky events beside the Cardinal to claw their way up the ladder of power.  They need to make nice with the Bishop and this comes above the safety of children.

Nothing has changed about this dynamic.

When parents put the evidence on the table and rounded up experts to testify to the dangers to local and national Catholic leaders, most people who could do something about it retreated to silence.

Think about this for a minute.

They were made aware that the Cardinal put Deacon Anthony Rizzutto in charge a program written by whores and witches and knowingly gave his consent to recruiting people who have no problem with promoting sex to children (VOTF) to "implement the program",  including Larry Kessler who promotes this book to youth.

The code of silence cultivated inside of the Catholic Church has been bred for centuries.   We have generations of Catholics who will sit beside a Cardinal who would so such things to children and make nice with him because they value their seat at the table more than they value the children victimized.

The last priest standing who refuses to hand over the children to this madness is being threatened.

There is no rhyme or reason why Fr. Mullin cannot use an approved program that gives resources to parents to protect their children - except that the Cardinal does not want the authority to be given to parents and prefers the system with folks like Larry Kessler in charge the ideas of children the how it feels when somebody rubs your genitalia and a go home and do it safe environment program.

Spread the word.

The Unsafe Environment for Children in the Archdiocese of Boston

**UPDATE

I have added the link to Deacon Anthony Rizzutto's implementation of Talking about Touching with Voice of the Faithful (citation from the Voice of the Faithful "Vineyard").

*****************

Yesterday, Boston Catholic Insider posted a letter received from the Vicar General and a response to that letter HERE.

TO: The “Boston Catholic Insider” team
RE: “Open Letter”
In response to your “Open Letter” posted on your blog on August 23, and the specific questions you detail, I restate that Cardinal O’Malley and his staff are dedicated to building unity in Christ and Christian community within the Archdiocese. To that end, I reach out to you and your team, with the hope that you will accept my invitation to engage in respectful, fruitful and face-to face dialogue. I am not willing to engage in conversation or correspondence with emails or blog postings from anonymous individuals. If you would like to discuss your concerns in person, please contact my assistant, Mary Jo Kriz, at 617-746-5619 to schedule an appointment.
Sincerely yours in Christ,
Very Rev. Richard Erikson, Ph.D. V.G

The fix is in.   The Cardinal and his staff are dedicated to building unity in Christ and a Christian community within the Archdiocese, you see.  To that end, they reach out and invite respectful, fruitful, face-to-face dialogue.

Implied in this of course, is that bloggers are not dedicated to building unity in Christ.  We disrupt their building of Christian community within the Archdiocese.

The response to the Vicar's letter, and the comments from Catholics is truly spectacular.

The Archdiocese avoids the core issues, publicly deceives and retaliates.  Each of us has experienced this dynamic numerous times.  The magnitude of the public deception and retaliation by the Archdiocese has left us with no reason to believe a face-to-face conversation will be any different than the face-to-face conversations we have all had with them since the day Cardinal O'Malley put his team into place.

Their public response, even in this conflict, has been typical.   When people stepped forward to demonstrate how their own employees are harming children, the faithful and unity to and with the Body of Christ and salvation, they say they are concerned about the harm the revelation is doing to the person doing harm to the people.

They accuse us of error.   When invited to show us where the substance of our complaints is in error, they rebuff us.  They make repeated calls to stop the public exposition of what is harming the people.  They want us t reveal our identities and to come and meet with them privately where they show us how we are gumming up unity and tell us to stop. When we don't, they threaten.  In this case, they put it  out there that they were willing to spend up to 200,000 dollars to hire retired detectives to find out the identities of bloggers.

They have never once expressed any concern over the incriminating evidence that their operation is rife with corruption.

The abuse of power was and continues to be Catholic Cardinals, Bishops and their staff's use of the concept of "obedience"  to cover up their own corruption.

Priests who speak the truth are threatened and abused internally so that  the environment protects those carrying out the victimization.

God is providing the tools to demonstrate that there has never been any meaningful reform to this dynamic.

The situation with Talking about Touching and Fr. Mullen is being held up into the light to show us the concrete example of the dangerous situation we actually still have within.

Yesterday, I talked about how the number one recruiting tool pedophiles use to recruit victims is finding places to open conversations about sexuality with children.

In yesterday's lesson posted, after sitting 7 year olds  to tell them detailed stories about sexual assault, the story ended with a leading question to open the conversation with the children.   "How do you think it feels [when somebody touches your vagina]?"

The children have no idea what sexuality is and the Cardinal has provided the teacher with the opportunity to tell them that sexuality is 'when people rub their private parts together' because it feels pleasant.   As I also told you yesterday, one of the early lessons actually instructs the teacher to tell them it is okay to touch each other's private parts so long as they don't do it on the premises of the school.

The Cardinal has set up the construction for 7 year olds to begin their sex lives.  So long as it is not on diocesan property, of course, because this is a  problem with the insurance.

That is only one objection parents, police, psychologists, priests, bishops have with the program.

The most material objection to the safety of children is how these conversations work when a pervert sees them going on in the community and 'volunteers' to teach the lesson.    Unless a pervert has been caught, none of us have any way of knowing which people 'volunteering' to teach children about sexuality is a pervert.

The Catholic Church has been hoodwinked into setting up the fruitful environment for perverts to trap children.

A pervert will watch for children who react with intrigue to these stories.  Children who ask curious questions are then cultivated privately.  They groom the child verbally first, then use pornography and then finally, they physically engage in sex with them to show them how "it feels".

This is how Paul Shanley and others worked.  They looked for opportunities to talk about sex and then followed the process i described above.

Yesterday, I also alluded to a situation where Anthony Rizzuto, who Cardinal O'Malley put into place to head up "Talking about Touching" met with members of "Voice of the Faithful" to  train them and help him implement the program.

Protecting Our Children

On Friday, December 19, 2003, three representatives (Pat Gomez, Elia Marnik and Kathy Mullaney) from the VOTF Protecting Our Children Working Group met with Archdiocese of Boston Deacon Anthony Rizzutto and his assistant, Bob Kelley, of the Child Advocacy, Implementation, and Oversight Ministry. This office was created two years ago in response to the abuse crisis. It is diocese-specific. This was an initial discussion between VOTF and the RCAB. We had a cordial, ninety minute meeting during which it became clear that this is a natural link between VOTF and the RCAB.

We identified several areas of mutual agreement, such as, the need for Parish Safety Committees or Parish Safe Environment Programs as well as lay involvement in the decision-making process regarding the implementation of the "Talking About Touching" program, which is the RCAB's excellent but controversial education program instituted in grades K-3 in diocesan parochial schools. The Program will be implemented in parish Religious Education classes as soon as possible. We discussed the almost impossible task of instituting something of this magnitude and divisiveness without sufficient support for parishes, especially directors of religious education and catechetical teachers. Success will depend on collaboration between parishes and diocese and ongoing dialogue. As reported after the first meeting with Bishop Sean O'Malley on November 19, 2003, VOTF will continue dialogue towards mutual collaboration with Deacon Rizzutto on the implementation and oversight of Child Safety Programs in parishes and schools.

This was objectionable, of course, because many of the members of Voice of the Faithful are not faithful to Catholic ethics and morals regarding sexuality.    One of the individuals who subsequently stepped forward to help Deacon Anthony Rizzuto with Talking about Touching is an individual named Larry Kessler.

Larry Kessler is a well-known advocate of promiscuity in the gay community.   (He once went to an ordination of our priests and threw condoms at them.)   Kessler and his group were caught red-handed giving out a book called "The Little Black Book" at a local school fair that included middle school children.

I'll post the link - but for those of you who haven't read it, it is extremely disturbing.

If you can't stomach the disturbing content, at least read this link.

Lots of services for queer youth?

Beg pardon, but wasn't that the problem to begin with?

Larry has been teaching CCD in Newton for 14 years.

Got any thoughts about Larry and his group hooking up youth to these services and why Anthony Rizzutto would use them to implement the Cardinal's a safety program that is purportedly designed to keep youth away from people who want to provide a network of sexually charged services to youth?

Doesn't make a lot of sense does it.

Kessler ran training for teachers of Talking about Touching in his own parish and used the ethically and morally malformed Catholics attracted to Voice of the Faithful to "train" them to implement Talking about Touching  across the archdiocese.

As I also said yesterday, there was a very long line of well-respected and highly placed people who demonstrated the dangers to Cardinal O'Malley and showed him the people showing up to teach the children Talking about Touching.

Fr. Mullen was among these people.

The Cardinal had Fr. Mullen silenced.  Fr. Mullen was obedient.  He struggled with this obedience but the good priest that he is, he did so.  Lay people supported him in his obedience because at this point, we are not going to put a career of a good priest into jeopardy with the crowd that Cardinal O'Malley has in place.

Cardinal O'Malley was not ignorant of the harm done to children and the traps he was setting up for children to invite perverts into every classroom.  He chose to silence people publicly warning parents and those he could not silence, he maligned.

The dynamic of using obedience to cover corruption continues in Boston.

It is unwise to blame the people around the Cardinal.  I can tell you that the Cardinal was informed numerous times.   The Cardinal is the only person who makes the final decision. He did this to the children knowing that it was not only sexualizing them, but it  opens every classroom to every pervert in town to groom victims.

We have a problem in Boston with the Cardinal.   I do not make any judgements about the reasons.   It could simply be cowadice and fear of conflict.

However, there does not seem to be any fear of maligning and threatening whisleblowers.

Fr. Mullen's vocation is on the line and laity have got to rise up to the occasion.
