Leadership Conference of Women Religious are Shocked..Shocked I Tell You

...according to a Washington Post article today.

Some nuns in the 55,000-member Leadership Conference of Women Religious characterized the disciplinary action announced Wednesday as an “ambush,” but others — including the leadership — said they couldn’t publicly comment on a system that mandates their obedience.

“People are stunned,” said Sister Pat McDermott, president of the 3,500-member Sisters of Mercy of the Americas, based in Silver Spring. “They’re outraged, angry, frustrated, they don’t know where this came from and how to hold it.

Why can't they be bishops?

Obedience doesn't rely on listening to the Mystical Body that Christ died to leave us but rather, listening deeply to the call of the spirit within themselves.

“Whatever we engage with in ministry . . . we check in with others about it, and together as a sisterhood we make decisions,” she said. “To encounter this kind of action that did not come with that contemplative discernment that I, as a woman religious, am used to engaging with in all of my life was deeply disturbing to me.”

That's right ladies, who needs the Institution of the Holy Spirit when the sisterhood can make decisions.Sister Simone Campbell thinks there is a strong connection between Carol Keehan's collaboration in the killing fields and the coup by the Vatican. No flies on that one.From the last quote in the article, it would appear the golden girls are putting on their iron pants:

But Sister Campbell suggested a difficult time ahead: "It's totally a top-down process and I don't think the bishops have any idea of what they're in for."

Given the number of quotes in different articles all over the world, I'd say Sister Simone Campbell is going to be the spokesperson for the rebellion.

The CEO of the hospitals, Kevin Cook, is on record saying Obamacare is “absolutely” responsible for their painful decision to shut down. There’s a strong posibility the hospitals will be sold to a secular organization which would perform procedures against Catholic teaching. In other words, it is becoming more and more difficult for Catholics to have access to ethical health care.

• Sr. Carol Keehan – the nun and President of the Catholic Health Association, who famously received a “thank you pen” from President Obama for her work in turning Catholic congressman to give up their opposition to Obamacare, has been trying to bully Kevin Cook into changing his story about why his hospitals are closing, because she knows what a political powder keg the headline “Catholic hospitals closing because of Obamacare” will be in this critical election season

It isn't just Catholic hospitals that are tanking.  Six secular hospitals in areas that serve the poor have filed a lawsuit saying the Massachusetts healthcare system (the test run for obamacare) is bankrupting them.  

"A hospital that serves thousands of indigent Massachusetts residents sued the state on Wednesday, charging that its costly universal health care law is forcing the hospital to cover too much of the expense of caring for the poor," according to the New York Times. 

The Times reports: "The hospital, Boston Medical Center, faces a $38 million deficit for the fiscal year ending in September, its first loss in five years. The suit says the hospital will lose more than $100 million next year because the state has lowered Medicaidreimbursement rates and stopped paying Boston Medical 'reasonable costs' for treating other poor patients.

Earlier this week, the fix came in -  Obama offered to infuse  $335 million in federal tax dollars into the collapsing healthcare system in Massachusetts.

The Obama administration has agreed to a plan to infuse $435 million into Massachusetts hospitals, the largest portion of which is intended to help avert a significant financial crisis at Boston Medical Center, the city’s primary provider of care to the poor.... 

The money, except for the Cambridge Health Alliance portion, must clear a remaining hurdle before it is transferred into the hospitals’ coffers. The federal government will provide $335 million, but Massachusetts must come up with about $100 million. The state Legislature must authorize the use of the state funds, language that has been held up as part of Republican objections to a larger spending bill....

Boston Medical Center laid off 119 nurses and managers last month, and has used cash reserves to make ends meet. But without the federal money, Walsh said, the hospital would have run out of reserves by next fall, leading to a much larger reduction of its nearly 6,000-person staff or consolidation of services with another provider.

Massachusetts taxpayers will be spending 100 million to bail out Romneycare  - and this is just a tourniquet so that the disaster here in Massachusetts  can stay under the radar until after the 2010-2012 election.

His conclusion was that the Christian community is not in error, no matter how many mistakes are made.”

This man is a vulture.   It would would be better for him and his enablers if he were a pedophile.

With Marxism hanging in the balance,Pelosi and Obama have wound up their phony plant in the Catholic Church, the "Catholic Health Association" to "support the health care bill".

Major anti-abortion groups, including the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops and the National Right to Life Committee, are adamantly opposed to the legislation, preferring stricter restrictions passed last November by the House.

Keehan said in an interview that she believes the approach now in the bill would work just as well to keep federal dollars from being used to pay for abortion.

"On the moral issue of abortion, there is no disagreement," Keehan said. "On the technical issue of whether this bill prevents federal funding of abortions, we differ with Right to Life."

The current legislation would allow private insurance plans operating in a new insurance marketplace to cover abortions, provided they do not use taxpayer funds. What makes that tricky is that many of the plans' customers would be receiving federal subsidies to help pay their premiums. So the legislation requires plans offering abortion coverage to collect a separate premium from their policyholders. Those separate checks would have to be kept in a different account from money for other health care services.

Another consequence of the misfeasance of Catholic Bishops to Canonically protect the name "Catholic" so that the faithful can be free of misrepresentations that mislead souls away from salvation.

Catholic Health Association Withdraws Obamacare Support

Sr. Carol Keehan, who has up until this point in time been an advocate of Catholic Hospital abortion contracts and Obamacare seems to be whistling another tune.

The CHA says it can't endorse either the House or Senate bills because they do not specifically exclude abortions.

The head of the CHA says in a statement LifeNews.com received that her group would like to support health care "reform" but says legislation can't be supported if it expands abortions.

"Our message has always been clear," says Sister Carol Keehan, president of the group. "Health care must respect and protect human dignity from conception to natural death. In that spirit, coverage for everyone is a moral imperative and a matter of social justice."

Her message has always been clear.

Earlier, it appeared CHA joined the Society of St. Vincent de Paul and Catholic Charities USA in backing the legislation despite the abortion concerns.

The three groups sent out an action alert asking members to contact their legislators immediately.

"Please call and e-mail your Representative in the next 24 hours expressing your support for Congress to enact health care reform now," the groups said in a joint action alert at the end of July.

"Saint Vincent de Paul is partnering with Catholic Charities USA and the Catholic Health Association to amplify our collective voice to let Congress know that health care reform can not wait," the alert said.

My Conversation with Sister Carol Keehan of the Catholic Health Association

I asked Sr. Carol Keehan point blank questions which she refused to answer.

Essentially, she said she herself would never do any of the things required of the contract and if I thought she would, I obviously have no respect for her. She said everybody knows abortion is an option.

Yes, Sister. Everybody knows. Everybody knows drinking is an option too. But people with sound judgment don't send the alcoholic with a case of Dewers to the AA meeting.

Sr. Carol seems like woman who would appalled if she knew the details of this arrangement. It's clear to me she doesn't.

The people who will be miles away from what's happening are simply not thinking this through.

They think they are setting up a system that can hoodwink the insurance company and use the opportunity to talk women out of the abortions. That you can do in a Catholic hospital.

What they're doing now is taking that environment away and replacing it with a system that is going to force Catholic healthcare workers to CEASE AND DESIST from talking women out of abortions. They are replacing it with a system that is forcing Catholic workers to talk about abortion in a positive light and hand the women the phone number. And, they're promising that monitors will be watching.

They've made the Cardinal Archbishop of Boston a man who has set up a partnership to hire people to kill other people. They've told him it's ok to do it.

They've told the Catholics at Caritas its ok to do it. But when you ask them if they'd ever do it themselves, they tell you they're prolife and would never get involved in any aspect of killing anybody else. We have no respect for them if we would think such a thing about them.


It's too crazy to be of human origin. It's the devil, hiding truth, clouding judgment, taking advantage of naive people.

Also worthy of reading is Leila Lawlor's below post on this menacing debacle. The Cardinal's game playing has left her with doubts about the National Catholic Bioethics Center. I personally have never heard anything that came out of Father Tad's mouth that wasn't wholly consistent with the teachings of the Church in any matter and I cannot imagine him compromising truth. I do share Leila's sentiments about the foolishness of having to ask somebody whether Catholics can hire somebody to kill people and then point people in their direction.

It's giving the appearance of a disingenuous game. The Cardinal's statement that he "in order to assure" him, he hired the NCBC to review the agreement and "assure him" wasn't exactly helpful.

In order to assure me that this agreement will provide for the integrity of the Catholic identity and practices of Caritas Christi Health Care System, I have asked the National Catholic Bioethics Center to review the agreement and to assure me that it is faithful to Catholic principles."

Seems to many people that the Cardinal, who sits on the Board and helps fund the National Catholic Bioethics Center, has already given them the conclusion of their opinion.

The fight has not been kept far from the walls. The fight is inside the house.

I completely agree that the the culture of death has infested the walls within.

I am convinced few have complete information and I am concerned at the tone of so many comments about permission to kill etc. We are Church and we should talk these issues out with respect. What you are quoting is not what my understanding of the statement has to be. Also in todayE2s world, how many people do you think don’t know abortion is an option?

In my forty years in health care much of it in perinatology and neonatology, many women start out saying I can’t have this baby, I can’t afford it or I am too ashamed and because we are there for them in a loving and supportive way, we get a real chance to prevent the abortion. So many have been prevented because of this.

In any “service” that a provider does not provide, the person is sent back to the insurance company to have them deal with it. Often but not in this case the insurance company will tell the person that it is not covered or if it is what providers they can choose from.

No one likes to hear that someone is going to get an abortion, but if we stay in the business of Ob, we get a real opportunity to help women deal with this challenging time and often are able to save the baby. I am sure for our crisis pregnancy lines, it is an agony that never gets better to talk with someone who ultimately makes the decision to abort but if we don’t keep our call line open we can’t prevent so many of them.

My sense of this arrangement is not the same as yours but I do have faith in the integrity of the Archbishop. There is a difference is saying we don’t do that and hopefully they will ask why, and sending them back to their insurance company office. It is such a painful reality and our work together is the best way to be sure we have every opportunity for women to make another choice. Our example of providing services etc as well as a welcoming Church will do so much to change individual and public opinion which strengthens our pro life position. Sometimes it can be like walking a tightrope in order to have the opportunity to encourage life choices in pregnant women.

We may not see this the same exact way or even have the same information but I hope we can respect the goodwill we both have and the commitment both of us have to pro life. Thank you and God bless you . Sr Carol

Both Caritas and the Commonwealth of Massachusetts has confirmed that Catholic employees at Caritas will be compelled to respond to a woman who is di straught about her pregnancy and wishes to terminate it by saying "Abortion is an option for you". Caritas has given written guarantees in writing that they will force Catholic employees to provide abortion information in a positive light and give them further instructions on how to obtain that abortion. The Commonwealth is now working out the details of how to monitor conversations of Catholic employees at Caritas to ensure they are complying with these orders. Many of us are confused by your statements.

Can Catholics respond to people asking you to kill somebody by saying "I can't do that but here's the phone number of somebody who willl connect you to the right person?"


Have you ever responded to a distraught women who sought information about obtaining an abortion by giving her the phone numbers to get it or arranging for her ride?


Is it consistent with Catholic ethics for a priest to respond to a woman seeking information about aborti on by explaining the procedure and giving her the phone number to obtain it?

Is it completely consistent with Catholic ethics to respond to a distraught pregnant women by telling her abortion is an option for her and refer her to the phone number of people Cardinal O'Malley has subcontracted to kill the unborn child?



Is it morally ethical for a Cardinal Archbishop to create a partnership that is a subcontract knowing tha t the people employed by that contract are people that will assist and carry out a murder?

Among the written assurances are a pledge that medical staff operating under the Centene-Caritas insurance plan, known as Commonwealth Family Health Plan, will inform women of their healthcare options, including abortion.

If Caritas-Centene proceeds with its plan, state regulators and abortion advocates will be watching. “How compliance will be monitored is just being worked out now,” Massachusetts health authority spokesman Powers said March 16.

Andrea Miller, executive director of NARAL (National Abortion Rights Action League) Pro-Choice Massachusetts, said her abortion advocacy group “vows to monitor” the Catholic hospitals to ensure that people have access to services to “protect them from pregnancy and disease …” In the past, NARAL operatives have made covert calls to hospitals, including Catholic ones, to see if personnel complied with a law to offer the abortifacient “morning after” pill.

Boston's Forced Aborting

The National Catholic Register has picked up the story of Boston Catholic employees of Caritas Christi who will soon be forced into describing abortions and other unethical procedures to stream of women seeking them and covered for them under the insurance plan Cardinal O'Malley has guaranteed is consistent with Catholic moral ethics.

According to Dick Powers, spokesman for the Massachusetts Health Connector Authority Board, which awards the contracts for state-subsidized insurance for low-income residents, the board unanimously accepted the Caritas-Centene bid after regulators received written assurances that medical staff will inform people of all options, including abortion.

I hate to say what is painfully obvious to people who care about the salvation of everyone: What on earth would possess a Catholic Cardinal to believe it is morally ethical for his Catholic heathcare workers at Caritas to give out the number of the employees of "Centene" to bait them into formal cooperation with abortion?

Also, some faithful prolifers have suggested that Cardinal O'Malley was shocked and caught off guard by the Caritas Christi abortion referral contract.

Unfortunately, that just does not comport with the facts.

On March 4th, the Boston Globe published a story that quoted Caritas saying they will provide family planning services, including abortion "IN and out of the Caritas network".

Later that day, Caritas and Centene Corp. released a one-sentence statement that said the venture "will contract with providers, both in and out of the Caritas network, to ensure access to all services required by the authority, including confidential family planning services."

The Archdiocese of Boston has not yet commented, and the explanations from the health care providers have not clarified how exactly this venture would mesh with Catholic teaching. (UPDATE: Connector Authority spokesman Dick Powers, asked about the issue by the Globe, today said "Health plans must provide covered services. Covered services specifically include abortion services.")

The Cardinal furiously got to work emailing Boston priests, deacons and lay Catholics claiming that no women would be referred out of Caritas Christi for abortion services and on March 6th, the Cardinal put up a post on his blog that said:

To be perfectly clear, Caritas Christi will never do anything to promote abortions, to direct any patients to providers of abortion or in any way to participate in actions that are contrary to Catholic moral teaching and anyone who suggests otherwise is doing a great disservice to the Catholic Church.

These are simply not the actions of somebody who is caught off guard and went on a pursuit of truth. The facts had already been published in the Boston Globe.

Furthermore, on March 13th, the Globe published that Caritas had promised the Commonwealth in writing that the medical staff of Caritas would "inform women of their healthcare options, including abortion".

The Cardinal has not retracted his erroneous statements. The Cardinal is still posturing that people saying Caritas employees will be forced to talk about abortions in positive ways and send the women on her way with good wishes are "people doing a disservice to the Church".

Since we know he wasn't ignorant of the facts, the only other plausible explanation is that the Cardinal believes that if somebody approaches a Catholic expressing they want to kill somebody - we can't do ourselves but we can pass out information and instructions to somebody who can and will.

Prince of the Church or not, it is the duty of anyone baptized to inform the public of of the distortions coming out of the Boston Chancery, including the Cardinal's own blog.

The National Catholic Register story has dug up the political contribustions of Caritas CEO and Chairman of the Caritas Board of Governors. Not surprisingly, both officials support proabortion politicians.

Caritas spokeswoman Teresa Prego declined comment to Register questions, as did President Ralph de la Torre and James Karam, chairman of the board of governors. According to Federal Election Commission records, both officials have given generously to politicians who support abortion: Last year, de la Torre gave $2,300 to Barack Obama; from 2007-08, Karam gave $6,900 to Hillary Clinton for president and $2,000 to Sen. John Kerry.

Highly placed Catholics have made inquiries to clarify the Cardinals statement and the statements of Caritas and the Commonwealth which could not possibly co-exist and, the Cardinal, the diocese and Caritas has refused to answer those questions. Reporters have also asked questions and received no reply.

They've got something to hide. This is not how people act when they've been blindsided. This is not the conduct of people acting in good faith, including Cardinal O'Malley, whose credibility has been severely damaged.

The Register's reporter Gail Besse also found out that state regulators are finalizing the details of how Catholic employees will be "monitored"

If Caritas-Centene proceeds with its plan, state regulators and abortion advocates will be watching. “How compliance will be monitored is just being worked out now,” Massachusetts health authority spokesman Powers said March 16.

Andrea Miller, executive director of NARAL (National Abortion Rights Action League) Pro-Choice Massachusetts, said her abortion advocacy group “vows to monitor” the Catholic hospitals to ensure that people have access to services to “protect them from pregnancy and disease …” In the past, NARAL operatives have made covert calls to hospitals, including Catholic ones, to see if personnel complied with a law to offer the abortifacient “morning after” pill.

We know that Cardinal O'Malley is already forcing Catholic employees to give out the morning after pill.

More confusing statements from Sister Carol Keehan, Catholic Health Association president.

The president of the Catholic Health Association, Sister Carol Keehan, has issued a response to the pro-life advocates who are upset with her statement praising two pro-abortion picks by incoming president Barack Obama.

She says nothing of whether a promotion of unlimited abortions performed at taxpayer expense degrades the competency of Obama's selections.

Keehan also claims that Obama and his selections will provide better health care for pregnant women and unborn children.

"They are committed to getting access to quality health care for all Americans, including pregnant women and their unborn babies," Keehan adds. "It is my belief that we ... will prevent more abortions by ensuring tangible health care for pregnant women and their unborn babies."
